- Serve as the Information Assurance Officer for the USS New York.
- Perform advanced systems installation, operation, integration, and troubleshooting in
order to maintain optimum data communication systems operations.
- Plan and supervise the installation, configuration, and maintenance of all data
communications systems and network services.
- Plan and design Local Area and Wide Area Networks and link heterogeneous networks
through the application of appropriate data and telecommunications hardware and
software.
- Develop and execute plans for tactical data communications systems and
database integration in order to ensure these systems are properly integrated
at all levels.
- Train Marines in new software and hardware requirements.
- Successfully planned and supervised data communications during Exercise Eager Lion in
Jordan which provided both BLT 1/2 and CLB 24 with NIPR and SIPR email, telephone, and
video teleconferencing services.
- Expertly coordinated with the Army aboard Camp Buehring, Kuwait to provide
uninterrupted data services to the BLT while simultaneously maintaining a SWAN network
to provide additional services and training to BLT forces.
- Supervised the entire green side network aboard USS New York which supported over
3,000 user accounts for the 24th MEU Bravo Command Element, BLT 1/2, ACE, and CLB 24.
- Combined and integrated 15 Marines from the different major subordinate commands, and
established a helpdesk beneficial to all units aboard USS New York, which provided the
Navy a single point of reference.
- Ensured the battalion sustained its operational planning and readiness by
reestablishing data and telephone communications in HP-217 and all of the battalion's
facilities aboard Camp Lejeune during the ADVON redeployment.

Sgt Venal's abundant initiative and personal drive continually elevates the entire
communications platoon. His dedication to excellence and enthusiastic leadership made
him a valuable asset to the battalion and the 24th MEU while deployed. Sgt Venal
effectively led Marines from all elements of the MEU aboard USS New York to provide
network and helpdesk services to over 3000 Marines. He has set an impeccable example to
follow, which Marines throughout the MEU continued to emulate day in and day out even
after the deployment concluded. His charismatic attitude has fostered an atmosphere of
learning, and created a well rounded knowledge pool in the battalion's data shop. MRO is
a must for retention, and enthusiastically recommended for promotion.
Directed Comment: Sect A, Item 6a: MRO was awarded the Naval Achievement Medal for
outstanding service in the billet of Data Chief for the period of April 2011 to January
2013.

Sgt Venal is one of the top Sergeant's within the battalion. Very proficient on
knowledge, strong work ethic, and high motivation, he makes an excellent example for
junior Marines to follow. Good initiative and communication skills. A problem solver,
he creatively searches for solutions to challenging issues. Highly recommended for
promotion and retention.
