This research article presents the synchronous firefly algorithm, a modified heuristic approach designed for selecting cluster heads in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) to improve network performance. The proposed method demonstrates an average reduction of 9.63% in packet loss ratio and enhances energy efficiency when compared to existing protocols like LEACH and energy-efficient hierarchical clustering. The paper emphasizes the importance of energy efficiency in WSNs and introduces enhancements aimed at optimizing cluster head selection and data aggregation.
