THE BEGINNING
• My life started on a
Wednesday morning,
January 24th, 1990.
• I was born in Istanbul,
Turkey.

• I’m 24 years old, still
living in Istanbul. I’m
in my senior year at
the university.
• And by the way my
name is Fırat.

Fırat’s meaning
• Fırat’s origins comes
from an old Greek
name of a river which
is located in the
southeastern part of
Turkey.
• The old Greek word is
Euphrates.

SEHER BÜYÜKCOŞKUN
My mother’s name is
Seher. She is 58 years old.
She is a retired elementary
school teacher. She now
resides in Istanbul with my
dad. She spents her time
by reading books and
tailoring! Also she and my
dad are going to an english
course.

AYDIN BÜYÜKCOŞKUN
• My Father’s name is
Aydın. He is 59 years old.
He is an also retired
teacher like my mom. He
was a science teacher at
a high school. He resides
in Istanbul with my mom.
He is also a musician. He
plays lots of instruments
like guitar, violin, piano,
baglama etc… And he
likes gardening too. By
the way he gave me my
name.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
I started school in 1996. But before
starting the school. I had already
learned how to read and write thanks
to my family. And my mother was my
first teacher. For eight years i studied
in a school close to our home. In
these years i participated in some
“poem reading” contests. But i was
not really succesful. In 6th grade i
joined the school’s basketball team.

HIGH SCHOOL
I started my high school
education in 2004. I
gained right to enter Kadir
Has Anatolian High
School after getting a
good grade in High School
Entrance Exam.
I studied only english for a year. Then for three
years i studied the general classes. At high school i
joined the basketball team once again. I was trying
to decide what to do after finishing the high school.
At weekends i gave some sports lessons to local
children with my sports teacher. And in 2008 i
entered the University Entrance Exam.

UNIVERSITY
I won full scholarship at the Business
Administration department of Economics
Faculty at Istanbul Bilgi University. Again
i studied English there for a year. Then i
started to study at the faculty. But i was
unhappy. I was looking for something
else. There were some discussions
between me and my dad about what to
do. But in the end he agreed and i left the
school and took the exam again.

UNIVERSITY 2
After taking the University Entrance
Exam again i decided to enter the Film
and Television department of
Communications Faculty at Marmara
University. I’m still studying there and i’ll
graduate from this university on June,
2014. I’ve done couple of TV Shows,
Radio Programs and short movies here.
Besides. I’m an active member of the
universities bicycle club. And of course
again i participated in faculty’s basketball
team in my junior year.

I have also studied Tourism at the
Open University. But i can’t say i was
succesful. I don’t know why i did this.
I think i was kind of lost in life.

WHAT I LOVE TO DO
Türkçe anadilim. Çok iyi derece de konuşabiliyor ve
yazabiliyorum. (Turkish is my native language. I can speak
and write in Turkish at the highest level.)
I have been learning English since i was 5 years old. I can
speak and write in English at a high level.
Puedo hablar espanol a nivel intermedio. Pero carezco
de la practica. ( I can speak spanish at intermediate
level. But i lack of practice.)
Ich kann ein wenig Deutsh sprechen. ( I can
speak a little German.)

WHAT I LOVE TO DO
In my university years, i joined in classes at Digital
Film Academy. I studied filmmaking, editing,
screenwriting, camera and producing there.

What I Love to Do
I enjoy nature. I love camping in
deserted places and forests. I
always use my bicycle to go to
camping.
I don’t see these
activites as “free time
activities”. These things
make my life
meaningful.

What I Love to Do
I’m always on my bicycle. I tried to travel
all around my country by my bicycle. I can
say it’s a unique experience to understand
and feel the world. When you are closer to
the road, you’ll see, you’ll be closer to
people.

What I Love to Do
I travelled to Europe couple of times. I
visited Germany. In Germany, i
travelled visited Marburg, Frankfurt
and Munich. My cousin lives in
Munich. I also visited Poland and
Serbia.

My Experiences
I can’t say i have much experience in
volunteering. I participated in some
bicycle festival organisations. Also
some activities for children. (That
Shrek is me!) Also i’m an active
process manager for newly founded
Yinfo (Youth Information Center). I’m
an active member for Y.O.U.T.H Art
Association. (which is my sendind
organisation) I’ll be a founding
member for the Young Europeans of
Turkey Association.

Plans

FUTURE PLANS
After finishing the school and of
course if i participate in EVS, i’m
planning to do a master in
Documentary Movie-making area.
But my main aim in this life is to
travel around the world by bicycle
and shoot a documentary about it.
Why EVS?

WHY EVS?
We all want to maket he World “a better place”. We
all want to create a smile on children’s faces, help
poor people, protect the green. We all want to paint
the World with ourselves. We unconciously want
these things and unconsiously try to do these
things. So i wanted to do these things conciously,
with the other concious volunteers
Because it brings the “The will to make the World a
better place” to life and it emphasizes this “will” is
universal.

Organisation?

WHY YOUR ORGANISATION?
* I was trained in Film and Videomaking so i want to set up some workshops about
Video and Cinema like Photography, Turkish Cinema compared to European (Of
course this will depend on children's interests and skills, very basic training but why not
we can go further). I have lots of movies and documentaries in my archive. For
instance; i'd like to show the "Baraka" documentary to the youngsters there to point
them the relation between the nature and the humanity.
* I'm also a bicycle traveller,i love to go camping and go nature trips. So at the
weekends i can take them to a little trip around the town or even to camping of course
under a supervision of a professional mentor.
