Proposal
The Fingal Food
Forest
5/1/201518
The Balleally Site:
Rogerstown Estuary equidistant between Lusk, Rush &
Donbate.
The Estuary
The wider confines designated:
‘High Amenity’ & ‘Highly Sensitive Landscape’ &
coastline a ‘Special Area of Conservation’
The Proposal: Lifescape
Regenerative woodland ecosystem incorporating fruit,
nut & perennial plants & trees.
Phase 1 of a broader sustainability concept project
5/1/201519
What is a food forest?
In a woodland ecosystem natural
processes & cycles maintain the
soil fertility and the health of the
plants.
This environment with trees of
different sizes & height, shrubs,
herbaceous plants & different
levels of shade and light, creates
a variety of ecological niches &
high productivity.
Martin Crawford
Agroforestry Research Trust UK
Growing food sustainably is becoming more &
more important in the light of our changing
climate. Forest gardening is a way of working
with nature that is not only productive and
requires minimal maintenance, but also has
great environmental benefits.

Come and explore 24 acres of
unique green space on the site of
a former rubbish tip. St Nicks
became a Local Nature Reserve
in February 2004 in order to
conserve and maintain a diverse
range of habitats sustaining
wildlife surrounded by
urbanisation.
A centre for nature and green living.
Est. by community in the 1990s the former 24 acre landfill
has transformed into a thriving nature reserve.
St Nicks Environment Centre
Opened in 2000 the centre was designed with sustainability
in mind & to showcases green features.
