The Kingship of Jesus
Finding Soul Rest in the Strangest Places
Jesus, the coming king
Micah 5:2 "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are
small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for
me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are
from of old, from ancient times."
Jesus, the coming king
Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given,
Jesus, the coming king
…and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will
be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting
Father, Prince of Peace.
Jesus, the coming king
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there will be
no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his
kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and
righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the
LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
Jesus, the coming king
Daniel 7:13 "In my vision at night I looked, and there
before me was one like a son of man, coming with the
clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and
was led into his presence.
Jesus, the coming king
14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all
peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass
away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.
The King has come
Matthew 2:1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea,
during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to
Jerusalem 2 and asked, "Where is the one who has been
born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have
come to worship him."
The King has come
3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all
Jerusalem with him.
The King has come
4 When he had called together all the people's chief priests
and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was
to be born.
The King has come
5 "In Bethlehem in Judea," they replied, "for this is what the
prophet has written:
The King has come
6 "'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no
means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will
come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people
Israel.'"
The King has come
7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from
them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to
Bethlehem and said, "Go and make a careful search for the
child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too
may go and worship him."
The King has come
9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and
the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it
stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they
saw the star, they were overjoyed.
The King has come
11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his
mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.
Then they opened their treasures and presented him with
gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.
The kingdom of God
John 18:36 Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If
it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the
Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place."
The kingdom of God
The kingdom of God is God’s rule in the hearts of people.
The kingdom of God
Matthew 13:31 "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard
seed, which a man took and planted in his field.
The kingdom of God
32 Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it
grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree,
so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches."
King of kings
1 Timothy 6:13 In the sight of God, who gives life to
everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before
Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you
King of kings
14 to keep this command without spot or blame until the
appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which God will bring
about in his own time - God, the blessed and only Ruler, the
King of kings and Lord of lords,
King of kings
16 who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable
light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor
and might forever. Amen.
King of kings
Revelation 1:5…and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful
witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the
kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us
from our sins by his blood,
King of kings
6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his
God and Father - to him be glory and power for ever and
ever! Amen.
The kingdom in glory
Matthew 25:34 "Then the King will say to those on his
right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your
inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the
creation of the world.
The kingdom in glory
Luke 22:29 And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my
Father conferred one on me, 30 so that you may eat and
drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging
the twelve tribes of Israel.
The kingdom in glory
Luke 23:42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you
come into your kingdom.“ 43 Jesus answered him, "I tell
you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."
The kingdom in glory
John 3:3 Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see
the kingdom of God unless he is born again."
