1. Find and Use the Snipping Tool
Tool Purpose:
The Snipping Tool is used to capture images or
screenshots from websites, documents, or other
sources. The images may be used in documents such
as MS Word, PowerPoint, or Web Pages (Take
screenshots using windows, 2015).

Finding Your Tool:
To find your tool on a Vista or Windows 7,8 Computer follow these instructions:
1. Click on Start>All programs>Accessories>Snipping Tool (see photo)

Computer follow these instructions:
Click on The Windows Icon (lower left on
screen)>All Apps>Scroll down to Start
Menu>Accessories>Snipping Tool.

Navigating Your Tool:
There are four elections when you click on the New menu
dropdown:
• Free-form Snip – Allows the user to snip out selected
areas with small scissors. The advantage is snipping
curves around items.
• Rectangular Snip – Allows the user to snip out a boxed
area with a cross-hair. The advantage is snipping larger
areas at once.
• Window Snip – Allows the user to snip out a complete
window from the web or selected documents.
• Full-screen Snip – Allows the user to snip out the
complete screen and once.

There are six elections when you click on the Options
menu dropdown:
• Options – Hide instruction text
• Always copy snips to the Clipboard
• Include URL below snips (HTML only)
• Prompt to save snips before exiting
• Show screen overlay when Snipping Tool is active
The settings here are normal left untouched
and will not be covered in detail in this
lesson.
6. Find and Use the Snipping Tool
Saving Your Images:
To save your image click on the small disk icon on the
menu bar. You will be given the option to save the
file as:
• Portable Network Graphic file (PNG) – The PNG
format provides a smaller image normally used in
iPads, iPhones, Androids, Tables and other
portable devices where smaller images are
needed.
• Graph Interchange file (GIF) – The GIF file’s
resolution is less clearer than the JPEG.
• Joint Photographic Experts Group file (JPEG) – The
JPEG provides a better file resolution for the
image.
• Single Hypertext Markup file (HTML) – The HTML
file is used on Web HTML pages.

Placing Images in MS Word:
There are two methods for placing the images in MS Word or
other documents:
• Insert Image into Word using the Insert Menu option.
• Paste the image directly into MS Word or other documents
using Ctrl V hotkeys.

Insert Menu option:
• Open MS Word
• Locate the position in the document
to place image
• Click Insert on the menu
• Click Pictures
• Find the image location and click on
the file to insert
• Click the Insert button

Placing Images in MS Word:
Ctrl V option:
• Open MS Word
• Locate the position in the document
to place image
• Hold the Ctrl key and shortly after
press the V key on your keyboard
