Financial services are the economic services provided
by the finance industry, which encompasses a broad range of
businesses that manage money, including credit unions, banks,
credit-card companies, insurance companies, accountancy
companies, consumer-finance companies, stock brokerages,
investment funds and some government-sponsored enterprises.
COMPONENTS OF FINANCIAL SERVICE INDUSTRY
Banks
Foreign exchange services
Investment services
Insurance
Other financial services
Financial exports
International financial services now cover three
distinct elements of the current account balance of payments of
countries. These
three categories, are as follows;
FINANCIAL SERVICE IN
GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE
(1) Income from direct investment, received and paid.
(2) Income from the other (financial) investments
received and paid.
(3) Commissions and/or fees received and paid.
Structure of India’s Financial Services Sector
 The major components of India’s financial systems are
banking, insurance, and mutual funds.
 The contribution of the banking and insurance sectors to the
country’s GDP was 6% in 2008, with that contribution growing
at 11.5% per annum in real terms during the 2001-08 period.
 According to the report from National Skill Development
Corporation, India has 79 scheduled commercial banks out of
which 28 are public sector banks, 23 are private banks, 28 are
foreign banks, and 133 regional rural banks.
 In addition, there are 1,853 urban cooperative
banks, 4 term lending institutions, 18 state
finance corporation, and 13,014 non-bank
companies.
 A KPMG (2000) report on the Indian banking
sector suggests that the Indian banking
industry could become the world’s fifth largest
banking industry by 2020 and the third largest
by 2025 due to the country’s high GDP growth
rate.
 Total scheduled commercial bank assets increased by
25%, while their deposits increased by 23% during the
period 2007-2008.
 Between 2009-2010 and 2012-2013, bank deposits grew
from USD 710 billion to 1.1 trillion; bank credit from
USD 510 to 830 billion; per-capita credit surged from
USD 450 USD to 690, indicating a strong appetite for
bank credit.

 Founded in August 1986
 In January 1997 the Asian development bank acquired a 13.84% equity
stake in SBICAPS.
 In September 2006 SBI Caps announced that it had set up $100 million
venture fund in partnership with the venture capital division of SBI
Holdings of Japan
 In July 2009 SBICAPS was asked by civil aviation minister Praful Patel to
prepare a road map to bring the carrier back into profitability.
 In February 2012 SBSCAP and other bank lenders were insisting that
commissions paid to promoters be reversed before they would consider
providing further funding to the still-troubled airline.
Economic growth of the country
 India’s GDP, according to the CSO, is expected to improve
moderately to 4.7% in FY 2014 against 4.5% growth in the
previous year.
 The Indian economy is now on the threshold of a major
transformation, with expectations of policy initiatives by the
newly elected Central Government. The economy is on the road
to smart recovery due to positive business sentiments, improved
consumer confidence and more controlled inflation.
 The sectors which were significantly impacted by the crisis
and slowdown in the economy are now showing definite signs
of improvement.
 The challenge for maintaining disinflationary momentum over
the medium term, however, remains on the horizon. A
moderate recovery is likely to be seen in FY 2015 when real
GDP may grow by 5.3%-5.5%.
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR)
 Businesses derive their primary benefits from operating in
society and no business can function without caring for societal
and community development.
 SBICAPs have always recognized this fact and established a
tradition of giving back to society. Since its inception, SBICAPs
has been involved with several initiatives, actively pursuing and
endorsing community improvement efforts in varying
capacities, across India.
 CSR policy in place and it is our endeavour to help reach out to
various support groups that might require our time, finances or
mobilisation and strength.
