TODAYS HEALTHCARE; PROBLEMS THAT
LIE WITHIN
Today, healthcare is often revolved around funding. Enrollments for
the 2018 year lies 400,000 less then last year (Livingston, 2017). Some
say this is because of lack of advertisement and assistance with
enrolling.
With the past year wrapped around the battle within the ACA, many
seem to forget about the Employer mandate passed in 2014. Within
the last few weeks, the IRS has sent out letters pertaining to payment
due to failed attempts of providing health insurance for their
employees(Cowley, 2017). This could potentially hurt small businesses
in particular due to having to pay higher penalties then larger
businesses because of a higher percentage of uninsured employees.
Ways they are looking to work around the high penalties are hiring
part time and giving higher deductibles.
SMALL BUSINESSES IN ACTION
Hiring Part-Time
• The ACA states that employees
who work less then +30 hrs don’t
need to be offered Health
Insurance through their
business(Shane, 2014).
• Working part- time could also
create a less “job lock” feeling for
a business. Businesses could
create a staff that caters job
specific needs rather then
employees who just fill positions.
SMALL BUSINESSES IN ACTION
Higher Deductibles and
Co-Pays
• Although this is an idea to beat a
penalty of almost $2,000 per employee
noninsured, employees would be asked
to pay a higher deductible and copays
out of their own pocket. This would
keep the businesses under the 9.5%
household income rate which creates
the need for healthcare benefits.
• The mix between higher deductibles
and HSAs (Health Savings Account)
allows employees to choose where they
want to spend extra health dollars
(Rosenberg,2017).
HEALTHCARE SOLUTION: HIRING PART-
TIME
Throughout the United States, health insurance for businesses is a
major benefit they. Small businesses are a growing brand, and in
the eyes of their employers, hiring part time seems like a rewarding
solution. Employees aren’t left paying more costs out of pocket
and employees are offered more flexible hours. Some businesses
who are part-time faculty have adapted a “total rewards” concepts.
This concept allows a more active participation within the staff and
easier more remote locations. This concept allows businesses to
thrive without breaking the bank.
TODAYS NATIONAL SECURITY; A NEW
STRATEGY
Ending the year off with a bang. Four major interests have been made clear
for our countries National Security; Protect the homeland, Promote
American prosperity, Preserve peace through strength, and Advance
American influence (National Security and Defense, 2017). Each of these
will hopefully restore America’s advantages throughout the world.
A large portion that makes up our National Security defense are our U.S.
forces. With the Army being the largest branch, concerns have risen
throughout the branch revolving a culture change. Regular battles with
health issues, misconduct, and retainability have created a hardship within
the branch(Meredith, 2017). When problems evolve, so do solutions.
Within the branch they are looking at an Organizational change or a new
outlook on strategy and planning tactics for the Army.
AN ARMIES CULTURE CHANGE
A new Organizational
Culture
• Often talked about as “how
business is done,” a new push
on more positive environments
could potentially create more
productive soldier (Meredith,
2017).
• Mixing innovation and
technology could create a new
learning experience for soldiers.
Allowing them to experiment
with further technology to widen
their horizons within their career
fields.
AN ARMIES CULTURAL CHANGE
Strategy and Planning Tactic
• A good strategy should always
include; ends, means, and ways
(Owens, 2016).
• Ends: Goals
• Means: Resources
• Ways: how Means will be used
• ”Strategy is the central component of
a defense policy” without it, unclear
communication could result in
ineffective planning.
• New strategies will be competitive and
creative to enforce a strong reliance
within the Army as a total force
NATIONAL SECURITY SOLUTION: A NEW
ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE
Throughout the Army, many cultures are created around the
behavioral, emotional, and psychological well-beings of their
soldiers. Without these core concepts matched, soldiers wouldn’t
be self reliant or motivated to do their daily tasks (Holt, 2014).
More importantly they wouldn’t have the mind that creates the
adrenaline and fire in a soldier to fight for their country during a
war. This option is the better solution to the Armies overall culture
change because a new organizational culture creates new outlook
for new recruits. Today, the Army needs to become more flexible
and less hierarchical in order to keep new recruits (Goldstein,
2017). Without the reform, the Army could potentially hurt for
more years to come.

  • 3. TODAYS HEALTHCARE; PROBLEMS THAT LIE WITHIN Today, healthcare is often revolved around funding. Enrollments for the 2018 year lies 400,000 less then last year (Livingston, 2017). Some say this is because of lack of advertisement and assistance with enrolling. With the past year wrapped around the battle within the ACA, many seem to forget about the Employer mandate passed in 2014. Within the last few weeks, the IRS has sent out letters pertaining to payment due to failed attempts of providing health insurance for their employees(Cowley, 2017). This could potentially hurt small businesses in particular due to having to pay higher penalties then larger businesses because of a higher percentage of uninsured employees. Ways they are looking to work around the high penalties are hiring part time and giving higher deductibles.

SMALL BUSINESSES IN ACTION Hiring Part-Time • The ACA states that employees who work less then +30 hrs don’t need to be offered Health Insurance through their business(Shane, 2014). • Working part- time could also create a less “job lock” feeling for a business. Businesses could create a staff that caters job specific needs rather then employees who just fill positions.

SMALL BUSINESSES IN ACTION Higher Deductibles and Co-Pays • Although this is an idea to beat a penalty of almost $2,000 per employee noninsured, employees would be asked to pay a higher deductible and copays out of their own pocket. This would keep the businesses under the 9.5% household income rate which creates the need for healthcare benefits. • The mix between higher deductibles and HSAs (Health Savings Account) allows employees to choose where they want to spend extra health dollars (Rosenberg,2017).
  • 6. HEALTHCARE SOLUTION: HIRING PART- TIME Throughout the United States, health insurance for businesses is a major benefit they. Small businesses are a growing brand, and in the eyes of their employers, hiring part time seems like a rewarding solution. Employees aren’t left paying more costs out of pocket and employees are offered more flexible hours. Some businesses who are part-time faculty have adapted a “total rewards” concepts. This concept allows a more active participation within the staff and easier more remote locations. This concept allows businesses to thrive without breaking the bank.
  • 7. TODAYS NATIONAL SECURITY; A NEW STRATEGY Ending the year off with a bang. Four major interests have been made clear for our countries National Security; Protect the homeland, Promote American prosperity, Preserve peace through strength, and Advance American influence (National Security and Defense, 2017). Each of these will hopefully restore America’s advantages throughout the world. A large portion that makes up our National Security defense are our U.S. forces. With the Army being the largest branch, concerns have risen throughout the branch revolving a culture change. Regular battles with health issues, misconduct, and retainability have created a hardship within the branch(Meredith, 2017). When problems evolve, so do solutions. Within the branch they are looking at an Organizational change or a new outlook on strategy and planning tactics for the Army.

AN ARMIES CULTURE CHANGE A new Organizational Culture • Often talked about as “how business is done,” a new push on more positive environments could potentially create more productive soldier (Meredith, 2017). • Mixing innovation and technology could create a new learning experience for soldiers. Allowing them to experiment with further technology to widen their horizons within their career fields.

AN ARMIES CULTURAL CHANGE Strategy and Planning Tactic • A good strategy should always include; ends, means, and ways (Owens, 2016). • Ends: Goals • Means: Resources • Ways: how Means will be used • ”Strategy is the central component of a defense policy” without it, unclear communication could result in ineffective planning. • New strategies will be competitive and creative to enforce a strong reliance within the Army as a total force
  • 10. NATIONAL SECURITY SOLUTION: A NEW ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE Throughout the Army, many cultures are created around the behavioral, emotional, and psychological well-beings of their soldiers. Without these core concepts matched, soldiers wouldn’t be self reliant or motivated to do their daily tasks (Holt, 2014). More importantly they wouldn’t have the mind that creates the adrenaline and fire in a soldier to fight for their country during a war. This option is the better solution to the Armies overall culture change because a new organizational culture creates new outlook for new recruits. Today, the Army needs to become more flexible and less hierarchical in order to keep new recruits (Goldstein, 2017). Without the reform, the Army could potentially hurt for more years to come.
