If only I could loose, Just a fraction of weight. Then a pretty dress I could choose, To wear to the party on Saturday at 1/4 to Eight.   We came to the conclusion A fraction is part of a whole number, So to save any confusion We practiced chopping up a cucumber, Sixteen pieces,, So 1/2 would be Eight 1/4 would be four 3/4 would be twelve, I will start slowly, not put as much on my plate Just a fraction of food to lose weight. A Poem on Fractions
A story on fractions Mickey wishes on the first star he sees, but instead of the dollar he hopes for, he gets only a quarter. The next night his little friend Donald wishes for a cookie—and gets just half of one.
Next morning Mickey is a quarter richer. He wishes again, while Donald asks for a cookie. Mickey receives another quarter and Donald gets half a cookie. At this point, Goofy and her twin Woofy get in on the wishing. But each receives only an eighth of their wish. Putting their heads together, they determine that their ages are the key, and that if they all wish for the same thing, they can get one whole.
ONE LARGE PIZZA !
3/8 1/8 3/8 1/8
1/8 + 3/8 + 1/8 + 3/8 = 8/8 THAT MEANS A WHOLE PIZZA WOW ! We got full .
After seeing this story it must be clear that fractions are a part of the whole Hi, Iam Mr Fraction ! Welcome to fraction world Each part of me is made of smaller part called Fraction s
Fractions Part of a whole Part of a group Of objects
Fraction Families 1/2 1/4 1/8 HALF QUARTER EIGHTH 1/6 SIXTH
Let's do some counting... How many hexagons are here? But, what if there was just part of a hexagon? How would we count it? We'll use fractions ! Fractions are for counting PART of something
Let's break the hexagon into 6 equal pieces :
That would be 1 piece out of 6 pieces What if we just had one of the pieces ?
Here's how we write it:
                                                                        How much pizza is left?
Front wall has 32 squares. What fraction does a window represent? What fraction does a door represent ?
Answer:_____    Answer    :_____ What fraction of the rectangle is shaded grey ?                              Answer:_____ What fraction of kids in the playground are boys?                                                                                  What fraction of cars are blue?                                 What fraction of the pie is shaded grey?                                   Answer:_____
