The truth is, intelligence has different meanings for different people. But at the BGS Global Cancer Institute, • Interventional Oncology
intelligence means, well, everything. Intelligence is the single word that substantiates all our activity, aim and effort.
The reason being, in today's India, where cancer rates are at an alarming high, there lies a huge gap between need • Rehabilitation
and availability of quality treatment.
Originating from one of the most advanced healthcare groups in the country, we aim at bridging this gap with ultra
high technology, thoughtful infrastructure and advanced care. In short, by infusing intelligence in
cancer treatment.

Medical oncology
Department of Medical Oncology at BGS Global Cancer Institute provides state-of-the art services in the
management of cancer through the use of chemotherapy and allied drugs and Blood and Marrow Transplantation.
The Department is serviced by highly qualified and dedicated full-time medical oncologists. The Department has
expertise in the management of hematological malignancies such as acute and chronic leukemia, lymphomas,
multiple myelomas, all solid tumours and Germ Cell Tumours. At BGS Global Cancer Institute, a state-of-the-art
Blood and Marrow Transplant unit is dedicated solely to the care of transplant patients and their families. We
perform both autologous (patient's own cells) and allogeneic (matched donor cells) transplants to treat many
different types of cancer, including Hodgkin's Disease, Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, Testicular
cancer, Leukemia (acute and chronic) and Aplastic anemia. Our experts are actively engaged in research to find
newer avenues to treat cancer, including graft engineering and immunotherapy (using body's own immune system).
The interdisciplinary team includes medical oncologists/ hematologists, pathologists, nurses, nutritionists, social
workers, and genetic counselors.

PET CT
Positron Emission Tomography, also called PET imaging or a PET scan, is a powerful diagnostic test that has a major
impact on the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The PET scan which is a functional image, is fused with the CT
scan, the structural image. This fusion of PET & CT helps the doctors to see the abnormality and locate it precisely as Interventional Oncology services

Interventional Oncology services for cancer treatment include Ablation techniques used on tumour tissue, using
radiofrequency, microwave, electricity, super-cold gases or alcohol to kill and shrivel the tumour.
Radio-embolisation delivers microscopic radioactive beads to the tumour.
Bland embolisation can block the blood supply; and chemo-embolisation combines this technique with
chemotherapeutic drug delivery.
Transarterial chemotherapy allows chemotherapeutic drugs to be delivered in high doses directly to the site of
the tumour.

4. Palliative Care
Palliative care services are given to improve the quality of life for patients who have a life-threatening condition. The
goal of palliative care is to prevent or treat, as early as possible, the symptoms and side effects of the disease and its
treatment, in addition to the related psychological, social and spiritual problems. Palliative care is also called comfort
care, supportive care, and symptom management.
Palliative care can address a broad range of issues, integrating an individual's specific needs into care. The physical
and emotional effects of cancer and its treatment may be very different from person to person. Differences in age,
cultural background or support systems may result in very different palliative care needs.
Comprehensive palliative care will take the following issues into account for each patient their physical emotional,
practical and spiritual requirements.
Intelligence is Tumour Board
So how does the patient decide which treatment to undergo? The fact is, the treatment plan for an individual depends
on a large number of factors, including the exact location of the tumour, the stage of the cancer, and the person's age
and general health.
The Tumour Board resolves this. For every single patient, BGS Global Cancer Institute sets up a Tumour Board
comprising a specialist from each treatment vertical, i.e. a radio oncologist, a chemotherapist, a surgical oncologist
and a medical oncologist. Together, after studying the report, they decide on the course of treatment, together. After
explaining it to the patient in detail, the treatment commences.
Intelligence is having the foremost oncologists of the country
All said and done, a hospital is just as good as the doctors it houses. And in this regard, BGS Global Cancer Institute
would be counted as a leading oncology institute not just in the city, but in the entire country. Simply because our
team of doctors includes the foremost cancer specialists in the country having years of experience.
Intelligence is the support of a multi-super specialty hospital
As any expert would know, cancer often calls for high-end supporting treatments. Still, a large number of cancer
treatment centres continue to operate in isolation. Thus the patient needs to travel all the way to another hospital in
case any complications arise.
At BGS Global Cancer Institute, we have the support of the city's one of the best multi-super specialty hospital, thus
ensuring timely and convenient treatment for the patient.
