This document outlines a pitch for a 5-minute short film about a young woman who is overly dependent on technology and social media. When she gets in an argument with her brother, she is mysteriously transported back to 1970. In the past, she experiences real-world community at the first Glastonbury music festival and learns to appreciate life without technology. She returns home changed and decides to spend more time with her brother outside rather than online. The film aims to explore the themes of time, technology, and how societies have changed through an entertaining story that will appeal to its target 16-24 year old audience.
2. PRODUCT We are making a 5 minute short film for our target audience of 16-24 as research has shown that these are the biggest consumers of short films and movies in general.
3. Our film is going to incorporate the aspects of time and technology, we decided that showing social networking and online community versus real life community would be relevant in light of the current boom caused by sites like facebook and you tube and the constant texting and continuous peripheral awareness of what is going on via technology.
4. PURPOSE OF FILM We want our film to be really creative which has a specific meaning that can link to the audience and general modern society. We want it to be enjoyable and have some aspects of humour that appeals to the audience engaging them within the film. The film ought to be relevant to society but have twists and irony that will make it unique and interesting whilst still incorporating traditional story values/elements.
5. EXHIBITION AND DISTRIBUTION We could show our film at film festivals, events in public areas (town centre's, parks etc) , put it on vimeo /YouTube and other sharing sites . Sharing sites attract particularly large exposure for the film as it is accessible to a large number of people , particularly the age group we are targeting as they have
6. WHO ARE YOU TARGETING We are targeting 16-24 year olds as research has shown that these are the biggest consumers of short films they are also the biggest users of video sharing sites which would create more widespread viewing of our film. Also the topic of our film is probably most likely to appeal to this age group as technology holds the most relevance to them and films using time travel like “back to the future” and “ the time travellers wife” are aimed at the 16-24 age group.
7. GENRE AND COMPARATIVE TEXTS The genre we have chosen for our film will be a hybrid genre, a combination of both fantasy and indie genres. our inspiration for this came from the Roald Dahl book ‘the magic finger’ and also the films ‘back to the future’, ‘Amélie’ and ‘The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus’
