This document discusses the history and evolution of cinema and television. It covers the first films shown in the late 1800s that frightened audiences, the arrival of television and color television, the golden age of silent movies and Indian cinema in the 1950s-60s, and the first talking movies. It also classifies films into three types: narrative films which became a major industry in the early 1900s, documentary films which expose true facts and events, and experimental/art films which are less commercial and focus on societal issues.

In 1898 Lumiere Brothers presented the first
publicly shown film “Arrival Of A Train A La Ciotat”
and some people were frightened

11. 1950S GOLDEN AGE OF
INDIAN CINEMA
Golden Age – 1950s and 1960s – that produced
some of India‟s most critically acclaimed films and

release of K Asif`s Mughal-e-Azam in 1960. The
film kickstarted a trail of romantic movies all over
India.

They are not much commercialized.
They are based on what is going in and around the
society.
