In Kindergarten in the Philippines, there are six domains that are taught instead of formal subjects. Language literacy and communication is one of these domains. In Grade 1, oral Filipino is taught in the first semester while oral English is taught in the second semester. The expected outcomes for language literacy and communication in Kindergarten include being able to recognize different sounds, listen and follow directions, tell and listen to children's stories, express one's self, share information with others, understand simple instructions, and write simple words or sentences using different letters.
