This presentation discusses research on using student-created videos ("flipcams") during geography field trips to capture the student perspective. Students in Scotland and Spain were given flipcams and asked to record their impressions of locations visited. Example videos showed students discussing first impressions, feelings about places and fieldwork, and connecting experiences to concepts. Using flipcams supported active, experiential, constructivist and individualized learning. It improved understanding of concepts, engagement with locations, and appealed to visual learners. Students developed technical, personal and interpersonal skills through the process. Flipcams provide a way to reflect on places and a new interactive learning environment for integrating field experiences into the classroom.
