Motivation: “Your Security, More Simple.”
• NTT DOCOMO provides our customers OpenID based “d ACCOUNT” in
addition to 4-digit passwords for online service access including DOCOMO
branded services, partner services, and carrier billing payments.
• NTT DOCOMO wanted to help our customers, who always needed to
remember their passwords, for their convenience in a secure way, and
DOCOMO recognized that the FIDO standards may help.

Overview: NTT DOCOMO’s Deployment (1/2)
• NTT DOCOMO launched four FIDO® UAF Certified devices and FIDO UAF-
enabled server in May 2015. There were some world firsts, a.) as an MNO,
b.) with multiple FIDO Certified devices from multiple OEMs, c.) with the
world first Iris scanner equipped smartphone, and d.) for multiple services.
The former president Mr. Kato demonstrated to order a pizza by NTT DOCOMO service d delivery™ with the world first Iris
scanner equipped device Arrows NX at the NTT DOCOMO New Products and Services Announcement on 5/13/2015.

Overview: NTT DOCOMO’s Deployment (2/2)
• NTT DOCOMO’s FIDO-enabled “d ACCOUNT” online authentication allows
our customers to login and authenticate their account without passwords.
• In addition to DOCOMO-branded services at dmarket™, varies of partner
services are available with the FIDO authentication through two ways, a.)
Carrier Billing Payment, and b.) as a federated ID utilizing OpenID Connect.

Why We Started FIDO Japan WG?
Language
Time-zone Difference
All the information and communications are in English within the Alliance and to Japanese market.
⇒ Difficult for Japanese people to recognize and understand how FIDO Alliance is doing good.
Possible Different Requirements or Market-needs
Communications with other members:
• Phone calls, Web meetings, 3 plenary meetings per year
• Late night meetings due to time differences
⇒ Difficult for contributions or attaining member benefits
Probably there are some different requirements from the market in Japan.
⇒ May positively think about requirements which could be applied for other markets globally.

Summary of FIDO Adoption & Market Trends
in Japan
NTT DOCOMO’s FIDO Deployment for d ACCOUNT is taking the leadership
for FIDO adoptions in Japan. d ACCOUNT FIDO-enabled authentication is
not only for DOCOMO services, but also their partner services through
various ways. e.g. OpenID Connect
Mizuho Bank and Okinawa Bank started to provide FIDO authentication
this year by utilizing FIDO Alliance member companies’ solutions. FIDO
adoptions in Fintech get accelerated. Other services probably next.
FIDO Japan WG operations are going well through corporation with the
FIDO Alliance global PMO. FJWG is hoping regional WGs may collaborate
each other to deliver simpler and stronger authentication globally.
