Addressing these key areas will afford Captiva the opportunity to continue to become a productive organization reaching, new levels of excellence in performance and relevancy in this market.
Our initial assessment of your current situation is as follows:
The board and division presidents expressed the need for an additional leadership position which was a Chief Operating Officer who would manage internal operations and assist in the area of overseeing some of the brands.
There was no specified job description:
There was not a clear job description for the COO and the CEO upon hiring. 
Role Clarity:
There was no clear coordination of reassigning and delegating new job duties, resulting in Doug Yacubian to feel limited in his control of making actual changes in the company.
Lack of Preparation:
A food poisoning crisis causing a recall of many products, then a Fire Drill, and the Tender Offer which took another 6 months, all of which the senior management team did not seem to be prepared to handle.
Communication:
There was no communication between Peter and Doug which could have prevented and resolved a number of these issues. People felt like Doug should have been more vocal and active when this situation had occurred but when Doug made suggestions he was quickly told that this was not his role and because Peter was the face of the company.
Roles and Power Struggle:
Due to uncertainty there may be some questions regarding loyalty in the company and whether the new COO was there to replace or compliment the CEO. As a result both the CEO and COO have been unsure as to who should be doing what and how to appropriately relinquish and wield control.
