CMS Interoperability and Patient Access final rule for health plans
CMS has released Patient Access final rule for health plans. By July 1, 2021, health plans must allow their members to access their claims and encounter information over standards-based secure API (FHIR® 4.0.1). Pavel analyzed the rule in detail and share the checklist that any health plan can use. Then he explained the technology that Health Samurai has built to allow health plans comply with the rule.

The HL7 Da Vinci Project is an industry initiative to develop payer/provider interoperability use cases based on FHIR for value-based care. Da Vinci members write free implementation guides and create open-source reference implementations which any healthcare organization can use. This presentation will cover the project history, give a summary of current use cases, explain the development process, and dive into the technical aspects of a few key use cases. We will also cover how UnitedHealthcare has leveraged Da Vinci Project in our EMR Integration Service Layer (EISL) which acts as a gateway between that payer’s internal systems and their network providers.

Journey in Country of Data Access Governance - Data works summit 2019 BarcelonaMagnus Runesson
The importance data access governance is continuously growing due to new regulations, such as GDPR, and industry policies. In this talk, we will share learnings at Svenska Spel from implementing and supporting this growing demand. Our journey started a year ago implementing Atlas and Ranger in our Hortonworks Data Platform solution. From start we wanted to implement a process and solution that had:
Minimal impact on ETL-developers and analysts
Privacy and security by design
Low maintenance burden using automatization
To be able to manage our policies and metadata we developed and open sourced cobra-policytool. Cobra-policytool integrates into our deployment pipeline and simplifies the way we express our policies. Thanks to the tool we can use Git as our truth of source for our policies and metadata information, along with the source code. It is close to seamless for our ETL-developers and with trust deploy the right policies.
Throughout the course of our journey, we learned the importance of having company policies and technology walk in tandem. Single source of truth, open platforms, and automatization are key to success. Data governance and metadata management are complex areas requiring high attention and are nothing you can duct tape in the end or solve buying a new power tool. With the right approach, it can be rewarding and make new requirements easy to implement and audit.
Metadata Driven Access Control in Practice - BigData Tech Warsawm 2019Magnus Runesson
The importance of data access governance is continuously growing due to new regulations, such as GDPR, and industry policies. Manage access policies for each individual dataset is a hassle. In this talk, we will show how Svenska Spel use metadata about datasets to generate access policies. We use it to create policies for access, retention, and anonymization.
To create our policies from metadata we developed and open sourced cobra-policytool. Thanks to the tool we can use git and metadata repository as the source of truth for our policies. Policies are deployed to Apache Atlas and Ranger via a CI/CD pipeline. With our work deriving policies from metadata we have:
privacy and security by design
low maintenance burden using automatization
easy to review of policies
traceability of policy changes
single source of truth
We learned the importance of having company policies and technology walk in tandem. Data governance and metadata management are complex areas requiring high attention and are nothing you can duct tape in the end or solve buying a new power tool. Building an Integrated Healthcare Platform with FHIR®WSO2
Healthcare records are increasingly becoming digitized. As patients move around the healthcare ecosystem, their electronic health records must be available, discoverable, and understandable. Further, to support automated clinical decisions and other machine-based processing, the data must also be structured and standardized. This is becoming a matter of interest for institutes such as government agencies and regional bodies, and we are already seeing rules and regulations come into action. For example, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which is a part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) of the United States, has published the “Interoperability and Patient Access final rule (CMS-9115-F)”. This aims to put patients first by giving them access to their health information when they need it most and in a way they can best use it.
Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®) is a next-generation standard framework created by HL7 combining the best features of previous HL7 standards. FHIR® leverages the latest web standards and focuses on ease of implementability.
The slides showcase the primary components of FHIR, discover the architectural principles behind its design, and understand implementation considerations.

Global launch of the Healthy Ageing and Prevention Index 2nd wave – alongside...ILC- UK
The Healthy Ageing and Prevention Index is an online tool created by ILC that ranks countries on six metrics including, life span, health span, work span, income, environmental performance, and happiness. The Index helps us understand how well countries have adapted to longevity and inform decision makers on what must be done to maximise the economic benefits that comes with living well for longer.
Alongside the 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva on 28 May 2024, we launched the second version of our Index, allowing us to track progress and give new insights into what needs to be done to keep populations healthier for longer.
The speakers included:
Professor Orazio Schillaci, Minister of Health, Italy

Antibiotic Stewardship by Anushri Srivastava.pptxAnushriSrivastav
Stewardship is the act of taking good care of something.
Antimicrobial stewardship is a coordinated program that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance, and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
WHO launched the Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS) in 2015 to fill knowledge gaps and inform strategies at all levels.
ACCORDING TO apic.org,
Antimicrobial stewardship is a coordinated program that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance, and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
ACCORDING TO pewtrusts.org,
Antibiotic stewardship refers to efforts in doctors’ offices, hospitals, long term care facilities, and other health care settings to ensure that antibiotics are used only when necessary and appropriate
According to WHO,
Antimicrobial stewardship is a systematic approach to educate and support health care professionals to follow evidence-based guidelines for prescribing and administering antimicrobials
In 1996, John McGowan and Dale Gerding first applied the term antimicrobial stewardship, where they suggested a causal association between antimicrobial agent use and resistance. They also focused on the urgency of large-scale controlled trials of antimicrobial-use regulation employing sophisticated epidemiologic methods, molecular typing, and precise resistance mechanism analysis.
Antimicrobial Stewardship(AMS) refers to the optimal selection, dosing, and duration of antimicrobial treatment resulting in the best clinical outcome with minimal side effects to the patients and minimal impact on subsequent resistance.
According to the 2019 report, in the US, more than 2.8 million antibiotic-resistant infections occur each year, and more than 35000 people die. In addition to this, it also mentioned that 223,900 cases of Clostridoides difficile occurred in 2017, of which 12800 people died. The report did not include viruses or parasites

There’s an intro page where you can sign in.
There’s strong authentication, provided by the Kanta PHR.
You give your consent for the app reading and writing data for you.
Once you sign in, the app gives you credentials you can feed into Nightscout apps of your choosing.
When you do that, data starts flowing to and from the Kanta PHR. And you can see it in the portal.
And when you access the detailed view, you can see the data is originated from a Libre sensor with a Bluetooth adapter, transferred by xDrip app in this case.
