Ferrets are small mammals that range from 2-3.5 lbs and 20 inches long. They have brown, black, or white fur and black eyes. Ferrets live in burrows in southern Canada and the central US, but are also kept as pets worldwide. As carnivores, ferrets' natural diet consists of smaller rodents, but domesticated ferrets eat cat food. Ferrets protect themselves by running away quickly or climbing trees using their sharp claws. They are born in litters of 4-7 and become adults at age 1, identifiable by their distinctive bandit face stripes. However, ferrets are threatened in the wild by diseases.
