Atlanta ------ According to data in a Pew Research Center report, fewer people are
getting married today than ever before. In contrary, award winning movie “Fences”,
starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis captures the romance of a married couple
from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania in the 50s.
Morehouse College student, Bakari Porter, a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
discusses how “Fences” relates to relationships in today’s society. “We forget that the
other person is with us throughout everything and take them for granted.”
Actress, Viola Davis, won an award for her monologue in Fences. In her speech, Davis
described the movie as, “a movie that is about people, and words, and life, and
forgiveness, and grace.”
Clark Atlanta student, Alana Howard, a native of San Antonio, Texas says that, “Davis’
role in Fences relates to many wives and women who have been a similar situation.”
