February Holidays!
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

We celebrate Martin Luther King, Junior Day on the third Monday of January every
year. It is a national holiday and most schools and businesses are closed on this day.
Who is Martin Luther King, Jr?

Martin Luther King was born in 1929. Both of his parents were
ministers in the church. He was a very good student in school and
went to college at age 15.
Martin Luther King experienced racism his whole life. He grew up
in the south of the United States. During this time there was a lot of
racism in the United States. Black people and white people did not
have the same rights.
He was a very important person in a movement in the United States during the
1960s called “The Civil Rights Movement”. He believed in equal rights for
everyone. He led many famous marches and did many important speeches. His
most famous speech is called, “I have a dream”.
“I have a dream…”
" I have a dream...

I have a dream that one day little black boys and black girls will be able to join
hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers

I have a dream today"
On March 29th, 1968, Martin Luther King was killed by a man who

remember Martin Luther for his bravery for fighting for the equality
of all Americans.
