A Fun Way to Start a Healthy Lifestyle

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. — June 20, 2015 — It is a hot, sunny, beautiful summer day in
Alexandria, Minnesota. Laughter, screams of joy, and shouts of excitement echo throughout the
forest surrounding the lake. Children and adults alike gather from across the state of Minnesota
to enjoy the lake of cranberries. As the 25th
Annual Ocean Spray Cranberry Day began,
thousands of people splashed around in the vast lake of cranberries.
“Today is one of my favorite days of the year,” said Molly Thompson. “The Annual
Ocean Spray Cranberry Day is about health education mixed with fun, and of course,
cranberries. My family drives from all over the state to be a part of the celebration.”
The Annual Ocean Spray Cranberry Day is a sponsored event by Ocean Spray that
invites anybody to attend to swim and play around in their own lake of cranberries. There are 21
inflatable trampolines and 32 slides in the lake that give the children and adults more opportunity
for fun.

“My mommy and daddy take me to swim in the juice! I have lots of fun,” exclaimed 6-
year-old Susie Crandall.
“This special day is to let the people of Minnesota experience the true excitement of
cranberries,” said Ocean Spray CEO Randy Papadellis. “It allows the people to see how
cranberries are harvested in a fun way. Not only do the children love splashing around in the
cranberries, I also see many adults jumping in on this beautiful summer day.”
The Annual Ocean Spray Cranberry Day give people a chance to kick back, relax, and
enjoy the product in a fun way and it helps them understand the importance of cranberries and
the health benefits of daily intakes of cranberries or cranberry juice.
Cranberries—specifically cranberry juice—help over 8 million people across the country
that have urinary tract infections. Cranberries have many health benefits that keep the heart,
liver, and stomach clean.
“Cranberries are water-extracted berries that reduce swelling in the stomach and
ultimately help with weight-loss,” says S. Daniel Abraham, owner of Slim-Fast. “It is heart-
warming to see so many people gathering to enjoy cranberries in an exciting way. I am glad that
people are able to get more information about the health benefits of cranberries through the
event.”
At the event, there is a session where dietary professionals come to explain the benefits of
cranberries to the people.

Ocean Spray employees give free samples of their natural cranberry juice which was
harvested from the lake of cranberries. The lake of cranberries is a safe environment and actually
has skin benefits for the people swimming around in the lake. Adults and children have actually
left the event feeling cleaner and having a better sense of what cranberries are about.
“At the end of the event, I felt cleansed and became informed of the health benefits of
cranberries,” said Valarie Stevens. “Unfortunately, I have friends that suffer from urinary tract
infections daily. Now that I know that cranberries are used to eliminate the infection, I will be
calling those friends as soon as I can!”
Recent studies have been performed to discover more benefits of cranberries. In fact,
many scientists found anti-cancer properties in Ocean Spray cranberries, making cranberries the
ultimate berry. All donations received at the event go directly to the research fund of Ocean
Spray to discover more benefits that people could receive from cranberries.
Cranberries contain many anti-oxidants that assist in healing and preventing many
diseases. The anti-inflammatory properties help specifically with urinary tract infections and
have proven to be helpful with other diseases and health problems such as heartburn.
“At the event, we provide hundreds of gallons of cranberry juice to give the people a taste
of what they are swimming in,” said event planner Dick Chariot. “Because it is the 25th
year of
this event, Ocean Spray has decided to give away a free quart of any flavor of cranberry juice to
families. It is a great way to get people excited about coming and leaving with a sense of pride
knowing that they did something healthy today.”
