King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand was born in 1927 in Cambridge, Massachusetts while his father was studying at Harvard University. He spent parts of his childhood in both Thailand and Switzerland, receiving his education in Europe. He ascended to the throne in 1946 and went on to become the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history, serving for over 70 years until his death in 2016.
