Dolores Ibarruri was a Spanish Republican leader and communist who fought for women's and worker's rights in the Spanish Civil War. She joined the Spanish Communist Party at age 20 and became president of the Union of Antifascist Women. She was imprisoned multiple times for her speeches and demonstrations. After the war, she went into exile in Russia and continued leading the Communist Party until 1960. When Franco died in 1975, she returned to Spain and was elected to represent her party.
