John Emil List murdered his wife, mother, and three children in their New Jersey home in 1971. He then disappeared for 18 years. When police finally found the bodies a month later, they began a manhunt for List. Nearly two decades later, forensic evidence and a sculpted image of what List may look like aged helped identify him living under an assumed name in Virginia. List was arrested in 1989 and convicted of five counts of first-degree murder, dying in prison in 2008 at age 82.
