8 Surprising Reasons To Meditate 40 Minutes A Day That Can Change Your Life.pptxHolistified Wellness
We’re talking about Vedic Meditation, a form of meditation that has been around for at least 5,000 years. Back then, the people who lived in the Indus Valley, now known as India and Pakistan, practised meditation as a fundamental part of daily life. This knowledge that has given us yoga and Ayurveda, was known as Veda, hence the name Vedic. And though there are some written records, the practice has been passed down verbally from generation to generation.

Falls are unfortunately common, but they don’t have to happen. Many people who fall, even if they are not injured, develop a fear of falling. This fear may cause them to limit their activities, which leads to reduced mobility and loss of physical fitness, and in turn increases their actual risk of falling. (CDC)
Provide a reminder that Falls are an example of “Preventable” injuries….usually they are not truly “accidents”. This program is about sharing information and skills that can help older adults reduce the risk of experiencing injury related to falls.
Possible questions to ask to enhance engagement:
If you could take action to reduce your risk of falling, would you? Do you know anyone who had a fall? What happened?
You’ve heard use it or lose it? Movement keeps your muscle tone, balance, endurance.
Speaking Points:
Group exercise can also help you maintain your social health.
Walking is good- balance/strength exercises are a must! Your “core” is a big piece of your balance. Your local YMCA or Recreation Center may have low cost /free classes.

Additonal Comments:
If you are in a deep chair or couch, slide forward, then hold the arm and get up slowly.
Fall hazards might be electrical cords, magazines or newspapers, or even pets. Look for possible hazards (Be aware of surroundings).
Possible questions to ask to enhance engagement:
What are the benefits of taking a moment to sit before rising when you get out of bed?
What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever tripped over in your home? Could that incident have been prevented?
How else can we prevent trips and falls?
