That’s why for one developer "I’m done” means that just a moment ago the part of the code with implemented functionality has been successfully executed, while for another developer it means that code has been committed to repository but without checking if build is green or not on continuous integration server. At the same time "done" of developer-perfectionist means totally refactored and optimized code. And only for "black swan”-developer phrase "I'm done“ means that all tests were passed, new functionality was documented on wiki and a new feature was verified by customer on the demo server.
So if you want to decrease a risk of misunderstanding inside a team or between team and customer you should make agreement about common vision of “definition of done“ and then start using it on a daily basis. In order to prevent losing your time and stepping on the hidden rake during discussion of your done criteria we will share our knowledge about creating compact and most effective “definition of done“. We will talk about lifecycle of this document and about approaches that help you to add important items to it. We will discuss doneness on different levels (preplanning, user story and task development, sprint). And of course we won’t forget to tell you how to create “Definition of Done“ which will satisfy not only your team but your customer as well.

Tools and techniques for automated test execution have been around even before the activity of testing was seen as independent of debugging. And with growing complexity of software, companies have embraced test automation as an integral part of their test strategy. This is primarily to augment human testing in order to meet goals ranging from increasing test coverage on greater number of platforms to shorter release cycles. However, it is surprising to see how many of these projects fail. According to some industry estimates, 85% of these projects fail to bring any real ROI.
Along with answering the all important questions of what to automate and when to automate, test managers need to understand the implications of using the various tools, techniques and frameworks. And this choice is largely determined by the mission that the project needs to accomplish. Will only the underlying tool suffice, what would be the limitations? Should you be using a keyword driven framework or should you be designing a domain specific language on top of your tools? Given a fast changing application, which of the many approaches will work better? Which one can be learnt and adopted faster by a large team of human testers? These and many other questions can be answered only by the experience of applying the approaches to real projects.
In this talk, based on our long experience of working on test automation projects, we help test managers understand and answer similar questions. We trace maturity of automated testing from tools to frameworks, and detail out the nuances and pit-falls of the approaches in the wake of a given mission. In addition we show how using the many open source tools test mangers can develop robust yet cost-effective solutions.

I started out as a manual tester who had little to no coding knowledge. I didn’t even know that test automation was a thing. Once I became acquainted with the concept, I realized how amazing it would be not spending so much time performing repetitive regression/sanity tests. However, a surprising outcome of becoming acquainted with test automation was that it scared me: There was so much to learn and several hurdles to clear.

However, a surprising outcome of becoming acquainted with test automation was that it scared me: There was so much to learn and several hurdles to clear.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).
High performance Serverless Java on AWS- GoTo Amsterdam 2024
Java is for many years one of the most popular programming languages, but it used to have hard times in the Serverless community. Java is known for its high cold start times and high memory footprint, comparing to other programming languages like Node.js and Python. In this talk I'll look at the general best practices and techniques we can use to decrease memory consumption, cold start times for Java Serverless development on AWS including GraalVM (Native Image) and AWS own offering SnapStart based on Firecracker microVM snapshot and restore and CRaC (Coordinated Restore at Checkpoint) runtime hooks. I'll also provide a lot of benchmarking on Lambda functions trying out various deployment package sizes, Lambda memory settings, Java compilation options and HTTP (a)synchronous clients and measure their impact on cold and warm start times.
