The document summarizes several academic achievements and events at King Edward's School in Witley. It discusses the reintroduction of A-levels, outstanding results on IB exams, exceptional GCSE results that bucked the national trend, and the opening of a new Business and Finance Center. It also describes a German exchange program, workshops on presentation skills for students, a mock murder mystery activity, and a former student achieving a first class degree from the University of Cambridge.
This document summarizes a study on modeling GPRS session time distribution. The study group was asked to construct a model for simultaneous transmission of voice and data on mobile networks and determine equipment needs to provide a required quality of service. The summary develops:
1) A Markov chain model where voice calls have priority over data calls. The model accounts for variable voice, data arrival rates and data call sizes.
2) An initial model where each data call uses one channel. Balance equations are developed to calculate the stationary distribution.
3) Future work is outlined to model variable data call channel usage and develop numerical solutions to understand performance metrics like mean wait times.
The document discusses the Agricultural Ontology Service (AOS) workshop from September 21-22, 2007 in Rome. It provides an overview of the achievements and impact of AOS from 2000-2006, including the development of ontologies like AGROVOC and application profiles. It notes the growing usage and downloads of ontologies like AGROVOC. The presentation aims to discuss lessons learned and next steps for AOS and its role in the semantic web.
This document summarizes optical modeling research on vertical aligned (VA) mode liquid crystal displays integrated with color filters on silicon (CF-LCOS). Key points:
1) VA mode was studied to improve light stability over twisted nematic (TN) mode. However, maintaining uniform pretilt angle on the color filter substrate was challenging.
2) 3D optical simulations were performed and compared to experimental data to analyze effects like disclination lines, pretilt angle, pixel size, and circular vs. linear polarization.
3) Pretilt angle of 86 degrees provided the optimal balance of high reflectivity and contrast. Larger pixel sizes and circular polarization also improved brightness and color purity.

The document discusses several aspects related to 'honour' crimes including constant community surveillance, the power of gossip, and the tension between collectivism and individualism. It cautions that surveillance networks for 'honour' crimes are extensive and dangerous, so organizations providing services to those at risk must take extra precautions to ensure their security. The document was written by Joanne Payton of the Iranian and Kurdish Women's Rights Organisation.
Study: The Future of VR, AR and Self-Driving CarsLinkedIn
We asked LinkedIn members worldwide about their levels of interest in the latest wave of technology: whether they’re using wearables, and whether they intend to buy self-driving cars and VR headsets as they become available. We asked them too about their attitudes to technology and to the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the devices that they use. The answers were fascinating – and in many cases, surprising.
This SlideShare explores the full results of this study, including detailed market-by-market breakdowns of intention levels for each technology – and how attitudes change with age, location and seniority level. If you’re marketing a tech brand – or planning to use VR and wearables to reach a professional audience – then these are insights you won’t want to miss.

UCL is hosting a series of half-term workshops from February 21-25 for students in years 10-13 to promote widening participation in higher education. The workshops will cover topics such as debating, math, journalism, public speaking, and drama. Students will learn new skills, get support from UCL undergraduates, and have the opportunity to tour the UCL campus. Attendance at the selected workshops is mandatory, as failure to attend or cancel at short notice will result in the student being unable to register for future UCL activities.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.
