3. INTRODUCTION
It is an eye, a phone
and an electronic
device in one.
It gives us access to
different applications
with just a blink of
eye!
4. WHAT IS AN EYE PHONE ?
Hand free interfacing system
Used only by user’s eye movement
Camera is mounted on the front
Track the eye and infer it’s position
First implemented on Nokia N810
6. Human Computer Interaction (HCI)
• HCI is the study of how people interact
with computers
• Most HCI technologies addresses the
interaction between people and
computers in ideal environments
• where people sit in front of a desktop
machine with specialized cameras and
sensors centered on them.
7. HOW IT IS DONE..?
• Mapping the eye position to an application
icon on the phone display.
• i.e., moving the pupil in the eye to the
application which we want to open.
• The selected application (e.g.. music) is
activated within a wink.
15. i) EYE DETECTION
• Eye is detected using motion analysis technique
• This analyses the movement of our eyes and eye pair
contour is identified.
• The eye pair is identified by the left and right eye
contours, while the original algorithm identifies the eye
pair with almost no error when running on a desktop
computer with a fixed camera.
16. • To overcome these limitations, the original
algorithm made some modifications.
• Reduced image resolution. This helped
in improving the quality.
• Added the width and height criteria.
This helped in filtering out false eye contour.
17. ii) OPEN EYE TEMPLATE CREATION
• Create a template of user’s open eye
once at the beginning when a person
uses the system for the first time using
eye detection algorithm.
• The template is saved in the persistent
memory of the device and fetched when
eye phone is invoked. By taking this
approach, we can drastically reduce the
runtime inference delay of eye phone,
battery drain ,…etc;
18. iii) EYE TRACKING
• The interpretation and perception
of EyePhone user is studied using
eye tracking.
• The eye tracking algorithm is
based on template matching.
19. THE NINE POSITIONS OF EYE
Here, the inner white box surrounding the right eye is
used to discriminate the nine positions of the eye on
the phone’s display. The outer box encloses the
template matching region.
20. iv) BLINK DETECTION PHASE
• Threshold technique is applied.
• There are 2 situations to deal with:
1.The camera quality is not the same as a
good USB camera
2. Closer to the person’s face using a
desktop and a USB camera.
24. DISADVANTAGES
Expensive technology due to
costly hardware requirements.
does not work with few users who
wear contact lenses or have long
lashes.
requires time
25. CONCLUSION
• The Eye Phone relies on eye tracking
and blink detection to drive a mobile
phone.
• The Eye Phone is a promising
approach to drive mobile applications
in a hand free manner.
