The device uses cascaded micromirrors on wafer fused GaAs-GaP photodiodes that can be actuated vertically through optical addressing of the individual photodetectors. Mirror displacements of up to 500 nm were observed using a 5 mW optical signal to address the photodetectors through microlenses. This approach allows for faster and denser adaptive optics without requiring integrated electrical circuitry to individually address each actuator.

Presented at Open Source Summit Japan (http://sched.co/AOmo) - - - Slowness of CI is a critical issue in software development, because it discourages engineers from writing tests, and hence deteriorates the quality of the product. In this presentation, Akihiro Suda will talk about how to accelerate CI by executing test functions in parallel, across a Docker Swarm-mode cluster. One of the major challenges was the nonuniformity of the makespan. e.g. some chunk of test functions can take 30 minutes, some chunk can take just 10 seconds... So, he mitigates such a nonuniformity by randomizing the composition of chunks of test functions. As a result, for example, the integration test of Docker itself that had taken more than 80 minutes can be finished in 4 minutes, with 10 Docker Swarm-mode nodes. This hack can be easily applied to CI of other software as well.

The tests use the Jepsen library to interact with Cassandra clusters in a controlled way while inducing failures like network partitions and node crashes. The tests check for violations of invariants like consistent reads, writes, and counter operations. Several issues were found through these tests, including bugs affecting counter values, decommission race conditions, and write durability. Sharing the tests and results helped improve Cassandra.

A Continuous Integration system is often considered one of the key elements involved in supporting an agile software development and testing environment. As a traditional software tester transitioning to an agile development environment it became clear to me that I would need to put this essential infrastructure in place and promote improved development practices in order to make the transition to agile testing possible. This experience report discusses a continuous integration implementation I led last year. The initial motivations for implementing continuous integration are discussed and a pre and post-assessment using Martin Fowler's "Practices of Continuous Integration" is provided along with the technical specifics of the implementation. The report concludes with a retrospective of my experiences implementing and promoting continuous integration within the context of agile testing.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing

Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process. In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds. - These are slides of the talk given at IEEE International Conference on Software Testing Verification and Validation Workshop, ICSTW 2022.

Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
