The Great Auk was a flightless bird that lived in coastal areas across the North Atlantic, eating small fish, crustaceans, and other sea life. It disappeared in 1844 when humans hunted the last remaining pair for their feathers to make pillows, after its populations had already been declining due to predation by other animals and overhunting by humans for food and feathers.
