This document provides the origin and history of the Expo Feria Ciudad Altamirano Gro in Mexico. It began in 1967 at the initiative of the local Diocese to create an event for merchants during Holy Week. The first Expo-Feria was inaugurated in December 1967 and was a simple, improvised affair with few attendees selling food and goods. Over time, the Expo-Feria grew and moved to different locations within Ciudad Altamirano as the land was acquired, culminating in 1977 when the current site was purchased.

2. Origen.
This project began in 1967 at the initiative of the Diocese of Cd.
Altamirano where Bishop Juan A. Navarro Ramirez (1912-1970) and
the priest Francisco Morales Reyes stressed, sponsorship was in
charge of the Balsas River Commission and the Coca-Cola Bottling
Company of which the manager was Mr. Jesus Bustamante Alvarez.
The Expo-Fair was inaugurated in December by the governor of
Guerrero Raymundo Abarca Alarcón accompanied by the president
of the municipality of Cervantes Pungarabato Carlos Santamaria,
under the direction of Simon Zavaleta Pineda, who was its first
president.
-According to Mr. Victor Hugo Carranza.
The expo was created because at that in tonces, Holy Week was the
biggest event in the region and was celebrated in the zocalo of Cd.
Altamirano. As we know Catholicism is very influential in society and
that means big sales. Games, shops, bars, and inlcluso bands always
set; and that to distracting people, instead of going to live Holy
Week were going to eat, and even drunk. And that's why the Bishop
had the idea of doing an event especially for those merchants who
stood outside the church.
3. During the inauguration there were few people, ladies making
tortillas from the rooftops, selling corn and other snacks; It was
something simple and improvised but awash in criminality; jugs,
pitchers and jars were sold. People offering their livestock: donkeys,
horses and goats; regional music was heard, everything that had
identified with the Calentana culture, all made people excited.
4. Ubicación de las diferentes exposiciones.
The first exhibition was held in areas where it is now the Cave of the Lions
Club and the buildings that continue to the south; It covered part of what is
now the highway Cd. Altamirano-Coyuca de Catalan. The land was owned by
Jacinto Zavaleta.
Second stage: on one side of Justo Sierra Elementary School, where the old
airfield was located.
Third stage: the terminal Zinacantepec, Aurrera, February 5 Street
Fourth stage: the land where King Avenue Irepan flows on its western part.
In 1977, the Organizing Committee, represented by Tirso Castillo Molina,
with the support of Mayor Diaz Mercado Napoleon bought the land that
currently serves as the backdrop for the Expo-Feria.
