Who sells on Amazon.com?
When a someone sells on Amazon, they are either a seller or a vendor.
Both sellers and vendors are offering something for sale, but they have different
ways of working with Amazon.
From the customer's perspective, nothing changes, but as a product seller, both
modules are entirely different from each other.
Let's explore both modules and their different aspects.
Amazon Sellers
Independent entities selling products on Amazon.com
Two selling plans:
1. Individual Seller plan
2. Professional Seller plan
Each plan has distinct pricing, features, and benefits.
Who is professional sellers?
● Can be brand owners or resellers of other brands
● Ship directly or use Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) from an Amazon center
● Utilize Seller Central, Amazon's self-service tool
● Brand Registry and brand tool available
● Offers advanced tools like inventory management, B2B, API integrations,
and bulk listings
● Monthly subscription fee of $39.99 / 39.99 EUR / £39.99
● Includes inventory tools for batch uploads and order management through
feeds and reports
● Allows addition of users and grant of permissions, helpful for agency
collaboration
Who is Individual sellers?
● Individuals selling their own items on Amazon
● Basic tools in Seller Central for management
● Ideal for occasional or small-scale sellers
● Pay-as-you-sell with basic listing and order management tools
● Ideal for sellers moving fewer than 40 items monthly
● No monthly fee, but a per-item charge of $0.99/0.99EUR/£0.99
Other Fees for Seller
Referral Fee: Sellers remit a percentage to Amazon for each item sold, based on
the total price (item price, shipping cost, and gift-wrapping charges), or a
minimum amount, whichever is higher; Referral fees vary by product category
and are in addition to selling plan fees
Additional Fees: Consider other selling expenses and optional programs aimed
at boosting sales; Explore fees like variable closing fees, FBA fees, Amazon Ads
fees, high-volume listing fees, and refund administration fees on
sell.amazon.com
Amazon Vendors
● An Amazon Vendor is a business that sells products directly to Amazon in
bulk quantities
● Vendors are typically manufacturers or distributors of well-established
brands
● They negotiate their terms with Amazon and ship their products to
Amazon's fulfillment centers
● Amazon takes care of storing, packaging, and shipping the products to
customers
● Collaborate with an Amazon Vendor Manager and utilize Vendor Central,
Amazon's self-service tool
Amazon Seller’s Business Model
● Sellers sell directly to customers through Amazon's retail programs such as
Amazon.com or Amazon Business
● They may use fulfillment solutions such as Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA),
Merchant Fulfilled Network (MFN), or Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) to
ship products to the customer
● Sellers need to handle the return, customer service, replenishment of
inventory in FBA through given tools by Amazon
● All fees are predefined and applies to every successful sale
Amazon Vendor’s Business Model
● Vendors follow a retail model where Amazon buys products directly from
the vendor, owns the inventory, and ships products to the customer
● Vendors are invited by Amazon to establish this relationship and a Vendor
Manager is assigned by the Amazon to them
● The Vendor Manager assists vendors in various phases of their business to
facilitate growth
● Each vendor contract is unique and confidential, meaning that selling fees
and terms are not standardized
● Vendors do not have to interact directly with customers at all
Seller Central allows sellers to:
● Create and modify product listings
● Track seller performance, retail metrics and inventory
● Track and manage payments, returns, and refunds
● Download custom business reports and bookmark templates you use often
● Manage shipping with FBA or FBM
● Manage selling programs such as B2B, Handmade, and Amazon Custom
● Manage advertising campaigns and monitor performance
● Monitor customer feedback and reviews
● Sell internationally with Amazon Global Selling
● Access Seller University to learn more about selling on Amazon.com
Vendor Central allows sellers to:
● Create and modify product listings
● Accept purchase orders, and ship products to fulfillment centers
● Create payment invoices
● Track vendor performance and retail metrics
● Automate supply chain processes
● Manage advertising campaigns and monitor performance by redirecting to
the advertising console
● Update product availability
● Access Vendor Central Learning to watch webinars and videos, complete

offers options like forums and support ticket submissions for assistance
● Seller University: An online resource offering step-by-step guides,

● Strategic Account Services (SAS) Core: A paid service providing sellers
with a dedicated Amazon account manager to help scale their business,
expand customer reach, and boost sales
Support for Vendors
● Vendor Manager: Enhances product selection, revenue, and profitability

partners, collaborating with internal teams. This service is funded by vendors
● In-stock Manager: Manages inventory, ensures product availability, and
