The mobile phone market has experienced tremendous growth globally over the past 25 years. The number of subscribers in Asia grew from 45,000 in 1990 to 215 million in 2005. European subscribers increased from 75,000 to 35 million between 1990 and 2005, while subscribers in the U.S. rose from 123,000 to 45 million over the same period. Mobile phone ownership also expanded significantly in other markets, growing from 12,000 users in 1990 to 14 million in 2005.
