Parenteral routes of drug administration include intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injection. Parenteral administration involves using syringes and needles to deliver drugs directly into the body rather than orally. There are different types of syringes including hypodermic, tuberculin, and insulin syringes as well as cartridge injection systems. Needle sizes are specified by both length and gauge, with gauge indicating the diameter/lumen of the needle and ranging from 27 to 13.
