Essay on The Pros and Cons of Franchising
Advantages Disadvantages of Franchising
Franchising is a continuing relationship in which the franchisor (the owner of a company) provides
a licensed privilege to the franchisee
(the buyer) to do business and offers assistance in organising, training, merchandising, marketing,
and managing in return for a consideration. It is a form of business by which the franchisor of a
product, service, or method obtains distribution through affiliated dealers (franchisees). (http:/
/www.business.gov) A franchiseis essentially a replica of an existing business. When you purchase
a franchise, you buy the rights to use the parent company s name and to sell its product or service
in exchange for an up front franchise fee and ongoing royalties, which ... Show more content on

As a result, expansion can proceed at a much faster pace than would otherwise be possible,
enabling the franchisor to achieve increased market share whilst benefiting from economies of scale.
(http://www.butterfield.co.za) Finally, franchisors can benefit from the cultural knowledge and
know how of local managers. This can be helpful in lowering the risk of business failure in
unfamiliar markets, as well as creating a competitive advantage.
Franchising offers franchisees the advantage of starting up a new business quickly based on a
proven trademark and way of doing business, as opposed to building a new business from
scratch. The franchised business is based on a proven idea and has an existing customer base,
therefore making it much easier to sell your product than it would if you were to start up your own
business. By buying into a franchise you are gaining the benefit of the franchisors experience as
well as the name and reputation that has already been built up by the franchisor. Therefore it is no
wonder that according to the U.S. Commerce Department, an estimated 95% of franchises succeed,
whereas only 25 35% of independent businesses succeed.
(http://money.howstuffworks.com) It is also not surprising that franchising makes up for about 3.2
percent of all businesses and 35 percent of all retail and service revenue in the United States,
proving that it is big business.
Franchising is very often a wise choice because consumers like

Trader Joe Essay
According to the textbook, Trader Joe is not a gourmet food store or a discount food store.
Trader Joe actually specializes in selling gourmet food at a discounted price. This store is also a
cultural experience. Trader Joe sells luxury things such as Organic Creamy Valencia peanut
butter, cage free eggs, and more. All of these gourmet food that is generally sold for high prices
are generally given away almost little to nothing. In order to sustain itself in the market, Trader
Joe puts its own special twist on the food price value. Their price value slogan is cheap gourmet .
Also, Joe s price incentive attracts devoted customers who love what they purchase from the prices
they pay. So what concept does Trader Joe utilize?
Trader Joe utilizes the concept of marketing strategy, though the element of prices. According to
the textbook on page 299, before setting a price, the company must decide on its overall
marketing strategy for the products or service . In this case a company s overall strategy is built
around its price and value story (300). For Joe Trader s example, Joe stations its prices around
what they offer, and charge for the product. Instead of selling the exclusive Charles Shaw wine
for its actual expensive price, it sells this product for only 2.99. This exceptional wine is even
nicknamed Two buck Chuck because of its low price deal. Trader Joe ensures what customers get

firm could set prices low so that competition cannot enter the market or set prices at competitor s
level to keep the market constant. In the Trader s Joe example, all of their prices are exceptionally
low for high priced things even Trader Joe s products can t even be found anywhere else. This
helps to eliminate competitors in an extraordinary

Batman The Unexpected Cultural Revolution Summary
Critique of Batman, The unexpected Cultural Revolution
In the essay Batman, The Unexpected Cultural Revolution Chris Gould sheds light on Batman,
and how the comics are described as dismal yet the show was made to be laughable with a main
character described as gentle. The main point of Gould s essay is that the show has become a pop
art utopia (pg. 268) and how it shaped the morals of a young generation. The Batman TV show thus
became a depiction of pop art utopia, where bright colors forever defeated darkness, where
creativity forever defeated logic and Good forever triumphed over Evil. (Gould 1). The author of
Batman, the unexpected Cultural Revolution made the argument that Batman left a lasting impact
on society and he uses valid information to prove his point.
Chris Gould explains how William Dozier introduced Batman, the crime fighting superhero, to TV
in 1966. The show was about a man in a suit that fought crime with his teenage sidekick. The show
was aimed at families, it wanted to send a positive message to younger viewers. Gould also notes
that the show analized a number of trends that were occurring during that time such as; the hippie
movement, corruption in politics, the power of technology, and pop art. ... Show more content on

Gould is impassive in his essay, however, the show scorned hippies on two separate occasions.
The first time hippies were scorned when A flower power criminal named Louis the Lilac,
played by Milton Berle, was created to illustrate this point, expressing the belief that hippies
could be controlled and manipulated to serve his own nefarious ends. (Gould 270).Gould uses this
to provide evidence for his claim that writers disliked the young social movements, so it was
surprising the show actually became as popular with pop art. Gould described one episode that
made fun of pop art

Importance of Accountability
PV2 Starling, LaTonya Importance of Accountability The importance of accountability and
communication in the Military is so each and every personal is all on the same page. Also so our
organization runs smooth. Communication is the heart of what makes the United States Army
what it is today. Without communication vital information would not be passed down from the
Chief of Command to a chain of Non Commissioned Officers to the soldiers. Not to mention,
innocent lives would be in jeopardy, missions would be misconstrued, and simple information
from NCO to soldier would be conflicted. The smallest amount of information is always
imperative. For example, if a soldier goes out over the weekend and doesn t inform anyone of he or

If you always have a hundred percent accountability you will never have any problems like
wondering where someone is or like wondering why something missing. If you ever have a
problem like that then it is because you are not doing a very good job at keeping track of
anything. If someone like that were to be in charge of a large group of people and not know if
someone could be missing is not a good way to be leader. That s why being disciplined on it
early in your career is important. I understand. One example of being responsible would be to
remember to properly PMCS you re vehicle prior to taking it on mission. The responsible thing
to do would be to go through every aspect of the PMCS and not taking any shortcuts. If your
vehicle were to fail on you while you were outside the wire you could potentially endanger
everyone s lives on the entire convoy. As said before responsibility must be used in every part of
being a Soldier in the U.S. Army, not just PMCSing a vehicle, responsibility falls under just
about every topic such as, waking up with enough time to prepare for your first formation, or
mission, being in the proper uniform, and having all of the inspect able items without having to be
reminded or helped in any way. Accountability is: the obligation imposed by law or lawful order
or regulation on an officer or other person for keeping accurate record of property, documents, or
funds. There many reasons why

Disadvantages Of Resolution 2098
Resolution 2098 was adopted by the United Nations Security Council on 28th March 2013
regarding the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The UN recognized the lack of
progress in DRC and adopted the resolution creating the Intervention Brigade unanimously. These
difficulties had already been highlighted previously and it was recommended to address the
violence issue in a more robust way, notably after the humanitarian failures of the 1990s (genocide
in Rwanda, in Srebrenica, massacres in refugee camps in DRC , etc.) Resolution 2098 created a
new mandate for the stabilization force in the DRC (Mission de l Organisation des Nations Unies
pour la stabilisation en RГ©publique dГ©mocratique du Congo, or MONUSCO) which included a
Force Intervention Brigade (FIB) tasked with carrying out targeted offensive operations to
neutralize armed groups with the intent of preventing violence against civilians and protecting
them under imminent threat . The mandate included the employment of all necessary measures and
went beyond the mandate of MONUSCO, making it the first ever offensive force under the control
and command of the UN. Even though the FIB is part of MONUSCO, that is a peacekeeping

Miracle is a biographical sports film that was made in 2004, the movie tells the story about the
1980 United States men s hockey team which was coached by Herb Brooks and won the gold
medal in the 1980 olympic games. One of the wins was against the powerhouse, Soviet Union in
the medal round. The Soviets had won the past 6 winter Olympics in hockey which is why the
victory is called The miracle on ice.
Herb Brooks at the time was the head coach at the University of Minnesota. He is interviewed by
the United States Olympic committee in Colorado Springs. He is chosen for the job and holds

Understanding Bipolar Disorder and Evaluating the Possible...
Author J.R.R. Tolkien once said, [that] there is some good in this world, and it s [sic] worth
fighting for. But, imagine a world where you cannot see the good one day, but then the next
every single detail of life is good. In order to understand what it is like to have your emotions
throws around like they are in a hurricane, you must first understand what it is to be bipolar. If a
person would like to better understand bipolar disorder, he would have to look at the life of a
patient with the disorder, and understand the definition, causes, symptoms, and treatments for the
disorder. Understanding exactly what bipolar disorder is can be difficult, but it is best described as
a mental illness that causes severe, unpredictable mood... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bipolar I disorder may be defined as experiencing severe mood swings ranging from extreme
happiness to depression, and bipolar II disorder is a milder form of bipolar I disorder.
Cyclothymic disorder is the result of hypomania followed by intense phases of depression.
Mixed bipolar disorder is one of the most intense forms of bipolar disorder since patients
experience signs of hypomania and depression at the same time, but this differs from rapid
cycling disorder because in rapid cycling patients go through four or more phases of mania and
depression in the same year (Goldberg, n.d, pp. 1, 5). Bipolar disorder may affect people of all
ages, including children, and it affects men and women equally. Finally, according to the
National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), 5.7 million Americans are bipolar, and because of
this, bipolar disorder is the sixth leading cause of disability in the United States (Bipolar Disorder
Statistics, n.d, p. 1). In addition to general information on the disorder, the causes should be
mentioned as well. According to Christian Nordqvist, ...bipolar disorder has no single cause.
However, it has been determined that genetics, chemicals, and the environment play a role in the
development of bipolar disorder. Furthermore, almost half of bipolar patients have a family
member with the disorder, and a child is fifteen to twenty percent more likely to develop the
disorder if one

Why Coding Should Be Mandatory In Public Education
Coding Should Be Mandatory in Public Education
As robotics continues to integrate with current occupations, an increasing amount of industries are
experiencing demand for computer programming or coding skills. Robots are becoming prevalent
in numerous industries across the globe,
Allen 4 consuming a myriad of once uniquely human jobs (Johnson). Businesses and industries are
implementing robotics and coding more extensively in this digital era. Therefore, computer science
and, in particular, coding should be mandatory curricula in public education that will future proof
students for job acquisition and enhance primary language literacy.
Robots are becoming more prevalent in every field of work across the globe consuming previously

in Raja 614). This supports the idea that as robot implementation meets human innovation, people
naturally change those aspects of their lives, which may mean a need for greater emphasis on CS
education. Robots will continue to consume once primarily human jobs, creating a more vastly
integrated workforce. Students today will work alongside these robots and/or be the ones coding
them in the future (Wohl). Thus, it is becoming more necessary to educate students starting at an
elementary level to be technologically literate by not just interfacing with computers and robots, but
understanding them and speaking their language a skill with a growing demand (Raja
610).
Coding is becoming an essential skill in the job market allowing workers to adapt to the integrated
human robot workforce; therefore, it is imperative that CS and coding education be mandatory and
begin early. There is currently robotic disruption in many sectors like education, energy, health, and
transportation. For example, companies have begun designing robots to aid special education
students, and much like automobiles, robots have been implemented in solar panel production
decreasing costs and increasing precision (Johnson). Chase Johnson reports in his article, Robotic
Integration Into Our Daily Lives: Now and the Future, that hospitals are also using robots to

The Legal Action For Negligence Against Jimmy Farnham And...
Answer A
The major shareholder might not be successful in the legal action for negligence against Jimmy
Farnham. This is because the audit firm was not under a contract agreement with the major
shareholder, and the fact that the major shareholder can be considered a third party in the
contract between Jimmy Farnham and Aussie Outback Tours Ltd. The law is not definitively
clear on the auditor s liability to third parties (Porter, Г“ hГ“gartaigh Baskerville, 2012). An
auditor owes a duty of care to their direct client, and any damages incurred by the client due to
negligence on the part of the auditor makes the auditor liable in terms of contract and also in tort

He had advised the client to assign the review and evaluation of the new database to an independent
contractor. The fact that Jimmy was not familiar with the new system of accounting that the client
was implementing and therefore not involved in the changeover process absolves him and his audit
firm from direct liability. It is also hard to prove that the error in material inventory that resulted
from the changeover was committed when Jimmy was auditing the firm or at the instance of feeding
the data into the system. Admittance to liability is also dependent on whether the auditor had
placed disclaimers of responsibility in the preparation of the audit reports.
The criteria for the determination of the auditor s liability to other parties apart from the clients are
as follows:
The defendant must have reasonably foreseen that the statements would be put to use by the plaintiff
A relevant degree of proximity must exist between the parties involved in the litigation
The imposition of a duty for care by the plaintiff on the defendant must be just and reasonable
(Davies, 1991; ACCA, 2009).
There is no evidence presented in the case above to the effect that the defendant was aware of the
likelihood of the judgements he made being used as a basis to make judgement by the plaintiff.

Examples Of My Mask
The Mask Within Me
As Kofi Annan stated, Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise
of progress, in every society, in every family. Initially, masks were utilized several different ways.
For instance, people in the Stone Age used masks as a source of disguise to stalk their prey and
later on attempt to kill it. To add, civilizations through history such as the Greek used masks to
impersonate people and built their masks in a fashion where it acted as a megaphone. Though, my
mask, Knowmore, expresses knowledge, as it is one of the most prominent aspects that helps the
human race keep advancing each day. A person who is educated can make smarter decisions, have a

White beards are mostly associated with an old person, where they go from the transition of being
young to an old man who loses the ability to perform tasks. Though, the white beard is a symbol of
the innumerable joyful, stressful, and depressing moments that the old man has gone through.
From these events, this old man has gained knowledge and lessons that aid him into a much
more sophisticated human being. For instance, through countless cultures, elders are respected
for their wisdom. Religions such as the Hindu respect the elderly due to the fact that they lived
longer or in other words have more wisdom due to their excessive amount of experience.
Moreover, this relates to me due to the fact that I enjoy taking advantage of my experience
because there are numerous lessons a person can learn from them. For example, in a field trip to
A.C.C., another American school in Morocco, we went to see their science fair projects.
Through this memorable moment, I learned what not and what to include in my science fair to
offer the finest presentation such as the display is one of the most essential factors of the board

Analysis Of Marie De FranceBy Marie De France
Marie de France begins her story by describing Bisclavret, her main character, as well as defining
what a werewolf is: a ferocious beast which, when possessed by this madness, devours men,
causes great damage and dwells in vast forests (de France, 68). She wants to relate the two by
allowing the reader to decide what she means by the descriptions and why she would correlate
them. De France does a little play and twists the monsters throughout her story. Being a werewolf,
Bisclavret may start out as a monster without; and, at first, his wife seems to be so beautiful and
innocent, but there lied a monster within her. Later in the story, Bisclavret is no more than a human
being, and his wife s monstrousness shows from within and she transforms into a monster without.
The themes gathered from this story are the relationship between love and suffering, justice, and
the wife who may be at first likable, but then changes the way that monsters are viewed. In order to
modify the stereotypes of what a monster is, de France made Bisclavret, a werewolf, the good guy,
and his beautiful wife, an unforeseen bad guy. The wife in the story Bisclavret portrays a
trustworthy, loving wife, until she reacts quite differently to him being honest with whom he really
is. Her character is the very thing, which makes the reader reconsider the definition of a monster
and the truth about monsters within.
The relationship between Bisclavret and his wife seems to be a very good and healthy bond

Paratroopers Research Paper
The main wave of the paratroopers drops were accompanied by another wave of diversionary
drops. The diversionary planes dropped off chaff, dummies and noisemakers at areas away from
the actual Drop Zones. The main wave went around the Cotentin peninsula and entered the German
airspace over the west Cotentin coast. They flew in the northwest direction over the Drop Zones,
and exited through Utah Beach. The paratrooper s experience at Italy taught high command that in
order for the paratroopers to be effective, they needed to be dropped in tight formations. The pilots
of the troop carrier aircrafts received extensive training, and flew the majority of the flight in tight
V of V formations. However, the pathfinders who went before the main forces did not inform the

Organisational Culture And Organizational Culture
Organisational culture refers to the shared beliefs and values guiding the thinking and behavioural
styles of members (Cooke and Rousseau, 1988, in Bratton 2010: 334), indicating that employees
who accept the common values of an organisation and put great effort on commitments are likely
to build up a strong culture to an organisation. Edgar Schein (2004) proposed three levels of
organisational culture. As employees go through changes, they gain experiences from the past,
adapt to a new environment and develop ability to solve problem. The first level is artefacts, which
include all visible characteristics of an organisation, for instance, the architectures/furniture in the
office, uniforms of employees and language. These are the observable elements of an
organisational culture and might influence the way and attitude of how the employees work. The
second level is espoused values in which the influence patterns of observable behaviour at work can
be recognised. Each member will impose dominant values and rules of conduct about the culture
and these affect employees certainty to work under a particular area. The perceived value that can
demonstrate reliability and be scientifically tested will be transformed into assumption. It then
comes to the third stage of basic assumptions which are taken into granted and are difficult to
change. When an assumption or belief about human nature was supported to be worked
successfully, this frames how the reality should be and shapes

Character Recognition By Machines, An Innovative Way By...
Abstract Character Recognition by machines is an innovative way by which the dependence on
manpower is reduced. Character recognition provides a reliable alternative of converting manual
text into digitized format. Now a days, as technology becomes integral part of human life, many
applications have enabled the incorporation of English OCR for real time inputs. The advantages
that the English alphabet has is its simplicity offered by less number of letters i.e. 26 and easier
classification due to the concept of lowercase and uppercase. If we consider Devnagari script in this
scenario, we will come across myriad hurdles because this script lacks the simplicity of English. The
concept of fused letters, modifiers, shirorekha and spitting similarities in some letters make
recognition difficult. Also, character recognition for handwritten text is far more complex than that
for machine printed characters. This is because of the versatility and different writing techniques
adopted by people. The direction of strokes, pressure applied on writing equipments, quality of
writing equipment and the mentality of the writer itself highly affects the written text. These
problems when combined with the intricate details of Devnagari script, the complications in
constructing a HCR of this script are increased. The proposed system focuses on these two issues
by adopting Hough transform for detecting features from lines and curves. Further, for
classification, SVM is used. These two methods

Impact Of Technology On The Music Industry
Over the years, music has become portable, starting with the transistor to a set of headphones.
Technology has allowed us to create a diverse musical culture. Music will always have an effect
on one s culture, and it has definitely mad a huge impact on the use of technology. Cultural
diversity is about bringing people closer together though the World Wide Web. Many music
publishers are the key to cultural diversity when it comes to publishing all genres. They will
increasingly continue to play a part in promoting diversity by bringing music of all kinds and
forms to the music market. The way we access and listen to music has changed a lot in the music
industry. For some, it may seem easier to download your favorite song from your favorite artist,
but there are rules to the file sharing and downloading of music. Before there was file sharing,
people would gather in concert halls for impressive music from some of the best known
composers of all time. Today, there has been an abundance of ways to access and listen to music,
in writing this paper, my goal is to discuss copyrightlaws, file sharing, and the progression of how
we access music.
Before we reached the electronic musical era, there was good old fashion concert halls. People
would gather together in the concert halls to see many different composers perform, all from
which were in different eras; the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic era. By the year 1877, Thomas

Media Positive Impact
Technology is evolving each and every day. Because of this new technology, people are now able
to communicate their thoughts and feelings with those all over the world. There are many social
media platforms out there including Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, the list goes on and
on. But, is it hurting the way we communicate with others around us on a day to day basis?
Before these platforms were introduced to the public, people were only able to communicate with
others through the use of letters or by speaking to one another face to face. Since technology has
started to take over, more and more people are meeting people all over the world that they weren t
able to talk to before. However, since online communicationis global, that means instead of having
to just please those around us, some of us think we have to please every single person that we
encounter on social media. This isn t much of a good thingbecause it forces us to worry about what
people we haven t even met before think about us, rather than worrying about what s going on
around you. Social media may make communicating with others easier, but it also has the power to
take us away from the important things happening in our lives. Since networking through the use
of various social media platforms was introduced, communicating with others has never been
easier. In his essay titled, How Social Media is Having a Positive Impact on Our Culture, author

Main reason of the success of this lies in the fact that it tackled the issues of local taxi industry
which were becoming unbearable by the common people. For example ordinary taxis charge on the
basis of time spend while using the taxi (by customer) while Uber charges on the basis of
distance. In populated cities it was hectic to find taxi on urgent basis, Uber tackled this issue and
gave service which is handled by a smart phone app and claims to provide taxi with in exact 10
minutes of ordering the service. In the start prices of Uber taxi services were high due to their
high quality services which left the customer range un attended who prefer to pay less money to
the taxi, but in 2012 Uber offered a service with a name Uber X with comparatively less prices
and a bit less quality service (in terms of not providing first class taxis and a bit of delay in time),
this service gained the attention of those customers who were not in hurry while going somewhere
(Brown 17). This much coverage of taxi industry created a lot of issues in the local taxi industry
where almost 80% of customers started using Uber, because of many facilities like one can travel
without cash on the spot, as all transactions are through credit cards, safety reasons, quality service
reasons, urgent service and etc.

The Ban Of The Tobacco
For me tobacco is one of the useful but useless products that are consumed by some class of the
human race in general. In the year 2001 the Government of India had announce an intention to lay
an embargo on the advertisement of tobacco in the media in general, in order to prevent luring the
younger generation from getting involved in this act and also to arm the government with powers
to launch an anti TobaccoProgram. After the declarations made by the government there is a
negative uprising against the ban that the government want to lay on the advertisements of the
tobacco in general. Some ideal people have seen the decision taken by the government as an
impossible decision that can never come into fruition, even to the degree where some prominent
media personnel like, Suhel Seth, CEO, Equus Advertisingsaid have to speak against the intention
of the government by saying, The ban does not have teeth. It is a typical knee jerk reaction by any
Government to create some kind of popularity for itself.
Even with the health problems that are associated with smoking of some people have made a
decision to keep smoking, after the intended ban on the tobacco advertisement ITC Ltd have

Reflection On The Sartell Football Program
The Sartell football program was looking to be as strong as ever in 2014. The varsity team
returned many starters from the year before and featured tremendous depth from sophomores

after a strong opening win. The date was September 5, 2014. A beautiful fall day lead into a
nearly perfect Friday night in Sartell Minnesota. As is typical in cities across America, fall
Friday nights in Sartell mean football. The stands were buzzing for Sartell s home opener versus

The Negative Impacts Of Colonialism In Hell Or High Water
Within poverty stricken West Texas, bombarded by advertisements for debt relief and paycheck
advances, Toby and Tanner Howard perpetrate evil acts to escape from under systemic poverty.
Marcus Hamilton, an emotionally distraught, slightly racist Texas Ranger, attempts to catch the evil
doers as he comes to terms with his upcoming involuntary retirement and fear of uselessness and
death. Though the juxtaposition of the story archetype of cowboys versus Indians and the morally
complex characters, we see moral dilemmas that confront contemporary American policy, and the
cascading effect said policy has on everyday people. Hell or High Water shows the negative effects
of American capitalism, colonialism, and globalism, through the depravity of the banking system.
In allowing the banks to abuse impoverished individuals, America creates its own shadow, in this
case, the west Texasinhabitants. America casting aside west Texans sends the message that
America (the self) failed to develop a healthy relationship with its shadow (its people) and
neglected its people and allowed harmful policy that fuels prejudice and poverty.
Hell or High Water offers thought provoking criticism of the obvious disregard for the disparity
between people, the cultural elite, and the lower class. It shows a violent revolt against colonialism
and globalism through the Old West tropes and Toby and Tanner s actions. The perspective on guns,
ranching, land, and life, evoke thoughts of the Old West and

Romeo and Juliet Movie comparison Essay
Movie Compare and Contrast
There are many similarities and differences between the sixties version of Romeo and Juliet and
the modern version of Romeo and Juliet. It is very easy to spot these differences considering the
time period each movie was set in. There are some things in the play that totally got cut from both
movies. There are also some things that they added to the movies that weren t in the play. Let us get
on to the similarities and differences.
First off, the biggest difference is the time periods of each movie. The older movie was set in Early
Renaissance times. The newer movie is set in the early ninety s. Another difference is the use of
special effects. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Romeo got dizzy for a minute at the party and then he was fine. It had no relevance to the story

version Romeo dies without knowing Juliet was really alive. In the modern version Juliet wakes
up seconds after Romeo drinks the poison. If Juliet would have taken the sleeping potion a
minute earlier, the two lovers could have been together. My final difference is in the modern
version once Romeo goes back into the Verona walls the cops start to chase him. While being
chased Romeo makes a stop at the Apothecary who sells him the poison. In the old version they
didn t have an apothecary. Romeo just shows up with the poison. Those are my differences.
Now how about some similarities. My first similarity is in both versions how the people carried
around weapons. In the old one the people of Verona carried swords. In the modern version of
the play the people of Verona carried handguns. Two different weapons, but they were used in
the same fashion in both versions of the play. Another likeness is Paris didn t bite the dust in
any of the versions. He is only in a few scenes. He s not even in the last scene where he was
supposed to meet his maker. While on the subject of death, Lady Montague does not die in either
version. She is seen exiting the final scene in both versions. She doesn t even have a big role in the
story. My next similarity is the

Classroom Observation Report
General Observation: As I entered into the science room, the students were being given a science
dipstick labeled Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems . This dipstick sums up the unit that
the students have been working on where they created their ecosystem posters and determined
which animals belong in each ecosystem. The teacher explained to the students that she calls these
dipsticks instead of tests because these documents are more focused on seeing what they took away
from the unit. She then read the pages of the dipstick so that they students could pay more attention
to the science than the reading. During this time the teacher explained some background
information about the students overall unit and what is needed to be taught according to the
science curriculum. While I was watching as the students were taking their dipstick I was able to
see that some of them were able to determine the soil conditions, the climate, and explain why
certain animals could or could not live in Vermont. Others focused only on the animals that could
survive. A few students were able to explain why those animals belonged or didn t belong in
Vermont. As students were finishing up, they were allowed to quietly read books or look at
different science materials throughout the room. The teacher was even allowing them to
experiment and work with the materials that were accessible to them. As we arrived back at the

The Themes Of Contemporary Art
In this essay, I would be demonstrating how the topic of contemporary art and the politics of art
institutions reflects and relates to Rajni Perera s 3 figures and VHT. With formal analysis of these
artworks and readings from this topics, I would show the differences and similarities between these
topics. Contemporary artrepresents what we see as individuals in society today, it does not follow
the set rules of art. For instance, modern art looks and follows modernist theories, likewise,
impressionisms which looks at our perception and understanding of a moment through light and
color in contrasts to that of realism which represents subject matter accurately without any
alteration or addition. On the other hand contemporary art does not have one conclusive or
definitive view. Its view is versatile and flexible which reflects the diversity of the world today,
themes of contemporary are notably about politics, globalization, social issues, migration and
technology. In like manner, the theme I drew from Perera s artworks which is diversity. Perera is
Sri Lankan artist, who grew up and was raised in Scarborough and North York. I find her works
diverse notably in the materials she chose. She uses laundry drying racks which are unconventional
materials to create her VHT sculpture. She does not conform to the regular norms of using clay or
plaster. I also found this as a reoccurring theme of contemporary art and the Migrating the Margins

Scripture On Conflict
Conflict. It surrounds and permeates every part of humanity. Everyone deals with it. Nations,
schools, churches, families, and individuals all must handle conflict from time to time. So, with all
this conflict, how are we supposed to know the correct way to handle it all? Scripture is full of
various kinds of conflict. Within the Bible, examples of how to and how not to manage every kind
of conflict lines the pages. Scripture provides the ultimate basis for God s plan to resolve conflict.
An Example of Cessation of Proximity In Acts 15:36 41, an interesting conflict sparks between
two of the greatest missionaries in the New Testament. Paul and Barnabas had traveled together
on Paul s first recorded missionary journey. If the results written in Acts 13:4 12 are any
indication, the two men appear to have made quite the team. What could have caused a conflict
so great that the only way to resolve it would be separation? Also going along on Paul s first
missionary was Barnabas cousin John Mark. However, when Paul, Barnabas, and John Mark
reached the city of Perga in Asia Minor he left the group and returned to Jerusalem. Scripture does
not cite any reason or provide any explanation. John Mark simply left. Fast forward to Paul s
second missionary journey. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

through legal channels rather than riots. The Bible records no damage or injuries from this
conflict. Basically, a terrible situation that could have gone south in a hurry ended with no

Jay Gatsby Past
In The Great Gatsby the main character Jay Gatsby not only contends with the past, but also is
utterly consumed by the past. The entirety of the novel portrays Gatsby s overwhelming desire to
reinvigorate a love affair from his earlier years. For Gatsby he never fully contended with the loss
of the women he desired, and as such Gatsby s constructed his life completely absorbed in the past.
After Gatsby lost Daisy he devoted his life to rekindle their love. He spent his early years
becoming the man he wished he was when Daisy was still his, he invented just the sort of Jay

In the novel Gatsby was never going to win over Daisy s heart, but his continually effort to do so
essentially makes the reader pity his worthless and ironic pursuit to build his life to win over a
past love, when he s undeniably just too late. The readers can also observe Gatsby s complete
devotion to his dream even when confronted about it ludicrously. When Nick tells Gatsby that he
can t repeat the past he rebuts by stating, Can t repeat the past...why of course you can (118). Here
the reader can sympathize with Gatsby, as they begin to understand just how much he is consumed
by his fantasy. Additionally, when Nick reminisced at the end of the novel on Gatsby endeavor to
relive the past he stated, it eluded us then, but that s no matter to morrow we will run faster, stretch
out our arms farther (193). Here Nick classifies Gatsby s pursuit in a nonjudgmental way because it
is truly something the reader can relate to: reaching for something beyond grasp. Although the
reader pities Gatsby there is still an element of understanding for his yearning to be with Daisy once

The Potrayal of Nurse Ratched
Ratchet or Ratched Critic Ronald Wallace noted that Nurse Ratched is also like a ratchet
wrench she keeps her patients adjusted, but like a ratchet, a gear in the Combine, she is herself
mechanically enmeshed. Nurse Ratched is portrayed as a devious mastermind of the ward;
however, she herself is actually just a minion of the Combine. In many parts of One Flew Over
the Cuckoo s Nest, Bromden describes Ratched as being like a machine; her systematic scheming,
and her name Ratched is similar to the word ratchet , which is a mechanical device. Because of
this, Nurse Ratched must only be considered a small part of the patients suffering because she is

Breaking the law greatly parallels with Kesey s negative point of view about the American
government, and how it forces people to conform to something they are not. Kesey was also an
advocate for abusing substances and self experimentation; as the patients get more and more
successful in challenging the Combine, they gain magnificent amounts of confidence to abuse
drugs. Kesey was a strong advocate for individualism and self discoveration. His writing portrays
his opinion on how individuals conform by unconsciously falling to society s needs. When this
novel was written, society ostracized individuals who were thought to be abnormal or different,
and because of this societal influence, people allowed themselves to become molded into what
they thought was normal . Bibliography Kesey, Ken. One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest. New

The Pros And Cons Of Japanese Internment
December 7th, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Army successfully pulled of the surprise attack on
Pearl Harbor. After this attack the government of Canada used the war measures act to remove all
Japanese Canadian citizens that live 160km from the Pacific Coast and put them in internment
camps until 1949, four years after WW2. Fast Forward to 1988 and the Canadian government gives
an apology to the Japanese, however the apology was for more than just Japanese Internment it was
for the pain and suffering, discrimination, and for leaving Japanese citizens with nothing.
One of the most justified reasons for the apology would be how the Canadian Government caused
the pain and suffering amongst Japanese Canadians. Firstly, the 22,000 Japanese Canadian citizens
and residents were taken from their homes on Canadas West Coast without any charge or due
process and exiled to remote areas of Eastern British Columbia (Greg Robinson, Internment of
Japanese Canadians). In addition, the RCMP arrested suspected operatives while the Royal
Canadian Navy impounded 1,200 Japanese fishing boats, and to avoid racist backlash Japanese
newspapers, as well as schools were voluntarily shut down. In this time the Japanese population in
Canada had been greatly damaged and families became separated into the internment camps.
Moving on, my second point for further justification is the Labor Camps Japanese Canadians were
placed in, further increasing pain and suffering. Because of the amount of political

This diet tries to promote weight loss and healthy living by cutting out the carbohydrates (sugars,
for the most part) from their foods. Unfortunately for Krispy Kreme, their product offering is
mostly doughnuts, all of which are high in carbohydrates, and therefore on the blacklist of many
Americans. In fact, as Americans become smarter about their health and their food choices, we can
expect doughnut sales across America to drop with time.
Loss of the niche aspect of the product
As Krispy Kreme rapidly expands by opening up new stores and franchises, the supply of their
doughnuts has increased dramatically. Krispy Kreme s doughnuts used to be in very high demand,
in our opinion because of the scarcity of the product: knowing that you can t have the product any
time, any where, made it more desirable. Now that Krispy Kreme locations are more accessible, as
well as the doughnuts being sold across grocery and convenience stores nation wide, the product

company very exposed to changes in market demand that can be caused for example, by new and

Motherhood, the Needle and Thread
Think of one person you can turn to for advice, expect love and warmth from, or tell you who you
should be dating. In most cases one s mother or a mother figure would spring into their minds.
Motherhood is and underlying theme that affects all characters in both Persepolis and A Thousand
Splendid Suns. Essentially, it highlights the unfair treatment directed towards women in their
countries. During the course of both novels all women, even those who were not mothers, are
burdened with the strict morals imposed upon them. For instance, Marjane had issues with staying
true to herself and Laila had difficulties with raising her daughter Aziza and son Zalmai. These
religious and governmental restrictions enforced upon women by men facilitated in painting a clear
portrayal of sacrifice, strength and love that women and mothers needed to attain in order to
survive. Despite the prevalence of a masculine dominant society, the true importance of motherhood
and femininity prevails; binding the novels Persepolis and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Relative to
both novels, motherhood can be assigned an all encompassing definition. Motherhood is the feeling
of warmth, cultural memory, and freedom; it is willing to sacrifice anything for the betterment of
the child. One does not have to physically bare an offspring to be considered a mother. To embrace
the characteristics of motherhood means presenting ultimate love and affection and using complete
agency when raising the child. Maternity

The Difference Between Graffiti And Graffiti
An expression or application of creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as a
painting or subculture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional
power. (Oxford, 2012).
As the years have passed Art has come to include expanding subgenres including architecture,
murals and memorials (Newspaper Association of America, 2001). However, since the booming of
Hip Hop culture, graffiti has also been acknowledged as a form of art in popular culture. Pop
Culture is a term that includes society s current collective preferences in music, film, sports,
recreation, jokes, fashion and advertising (The Museum of Contemporary Art, 1990). Considering

As they differ in terms of technique, function and intent, there are still few similarities that are
drawn between the two. Although one is subversive and the other is not, it is the one that is, that is
most in question.
A defining difference is that street art does not directly emerge from Hip Hop in contrast, graffiti
does. Graffiti is not only an art form it is highly recognized as a cultural movement that has
spread across the globe as a sub genre of Hip Hop (Blanchard. B, 1999) Street artists are
sometimes seen as middle class gallery artists that curate their work on the street whereas graffiti is
not. An example of this is a mural being painted outside a museum perhaps.
In contrast graffiti artists are more interested in presenting a statement in the spontaneity and
minimalism of their work. Graffiti artists are also seen as being more invested in the art on a more
personal level; by nature it rejects the concept of commissions. The culture of street art and graffiti
has been threatened by the blurring of the lines within art and has caused underlying discourses in
the public art community (Province of Western Cape: Provincial Gazette,

Contemporary Social Issues Of DACA
Part I Introduction: The Contemporary Social Issue of DACA A social issue that is currently
whirling around the United States is the discussion of what is going to happen with DACA
recipients. DACA stands for The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and they are also
commonly referred to as Dreamers (Michelle Mark 2017). The DACA act was set in place in
2012 by President Barrack Obama and it provided young immigrants the chance to apply for
temporary protection from deportation. Often times children are too young to know what is
going on and their parents bring them into the United States so they are then protected under the
DACA act. It is also only eligible to immigrants who have been in the United States since 2007
and were under 16 years of age; 30 or younger as of June 2012, in high school or have a diploma
or GED and a clean criminal record (Dara Lind 2017). The program does not grant legal status,
put them on a path to citizenship and or legalization (Michelle Mark 2017). The protection does
allow these people to get authorization to work and obtain a valid driver s license in some states.
DACA provides the opportunity for them to have the chance to further their education, buy cars,
homes and even the possibility of starting a business (Dara Lind 2017). Currently 800, 000 people
depend on the DACA Act in the United States (Michelle Mark). Without the DACA Act, the

Analysis Of Janice Mirikitani s Suicide Note
It s easy to feel worthless. Almost every person feels this deep emotion at some time in life, but
people handle it different. Everywhere people are always judging. Judgement from parents, from
family, and even from friends is inescapable. People can tear themselves down in many ways, such
as through school, not feeling they look good enough, and even just not feeling like they re ever
good enough to be living on Earth. In Janice Mirikitani s poem SuicideNote, it talks about an Asian
American student currently in college. She tries her hardest, she wants to succeed and make her
parents proud. Her parents have high standards for her, as they want her to receive a 4.0 grade
point average. Although she gives her best effort, her grade point average is still less than a 4.0,
and for that reason her parents are not proud of her, she s not their perfect, ideal daughter. So she
enters that point where she no longer feels proud of her accomplishments, she feels worthless, and
unintelligent. She decides to commit suicide by jumping out of a window in her college dorm. In
her suicide noteshe apologizes to her parents for not being good enough. Suicide Note is a free
form poem, it has no set stanzaic pattern, the sentences break in unexpected places, and the
structure varies throughout the poem. It uses imagery to connect with the reader, and the stanzas
are set up in way that make the lines to appear as they are falling. Through the use of enjambment,

that Season 12 Supernatural will see the Winchester brothers going against the Men of Letters
along with their mother Mary and Castiel. The angel will also get standalone episodes that will
feature his backstory. Speaking of episodes, the twelfth season will have an episode revolving
around the rock n roll music genre, reports Game Guide. Andrew Dadd revealed to
Entertainment Weekly that the creative team of the show had been trying to incorporate the
music genre in the show for a long time but it materialized in Season 12 only. He said that it
seemed like a very natural thing to do as it is also the tenor of the show. He said that the
opportunity came their way because Supernatural Season 12 will have rock star Rick Springfield
starring as Lucifer s new vessel and the episodes that feature him felt really fun and like a natural

Arguments against the Use of School Uniforms
Uniforms
School uniforms in England were first introduced during the occupation of King Henry VII.
England is mostly known for their school uniforms even though British people are not very
interested, in fact they spend less money on clothes than the people of many European countries.
Although, the school uniforms are part of the British image, many individuals oppose the use of
school uniforms. The British is mostly known for their clothes, more specifically the school
uniforms, it is one of their dress code. Britain has influenced many countries to make school
uniforms compulsory. Many continents like Africa and Asia were forced while they were being
colonized by Britain to make school uniforms compulsory. Both the public and private schools are
required to have its won colures, styles and the dress code most not be neglected. When students are
shown or exposed to the positive sides of having school uniforms, they become more responsible
students but do school uniforms contravenes the student rights to self expression.
The most typical arguments against school uniforms are that students are not allowed to choose
what they want to wear. The students are limited, and there is no other way for self expression. The
only way for modern students to become unique and different from each other, is by having
different clothes and not school uniforms. Unfortunately, school uniforms make everybody look
almost the same. Many parents even complain about the

Old Poor Law Summary
The Elizabethan Poor Law, commonly known as the Old Poor Law, was instituted in 1601 as a
method to manage poor relief in the midst of societal and economic shifts. Since the 1960s
comparative analyses and case studies have been central to a revisionist historiographical
approach. Historians such as A.L. Beier and Paul Slack, following in the footsteps of E.P.
Thompson, reshaped the way that the history of the poor laws was being made in the 1980s
through their use of social history. Their examinations of povertyduring Tudor and Stuart England
through the use of governmental statutes and proclamations, as well as local sources, set the stage
for later histories of poverty and poor relief. However, their work at the local level left something...

It displays the value of social history to the subject by examining vagrants, not simply vagrancy
legislation. With Masterless Men, Beier gave agency to vagrants of the time. As he stated:
Sixteenth and early seventeenth century vagrancy involved more than being poor and rootless. It
was the product of profound social dislocations a huge and growing poverty problem, disastrous
economic and demographic shifts and massive migration and had important political consequences.
Beier s work truly shows the values of examining the context of vagrancy and legislation through a
social lens that captures more than a strict examination of official records. Future scholarship
should continue to focus on the actual context of vagrant life and the political and economic
dimensions of the influence of vagrancy on the ground level. However, Beier s insistence that
historians that focused on demographics were weak is overstated. Beier himself devoted a great
deal of time to demographic shifts in his own text, which makes his own critique questionable.
Demographics are a valuable aspect of the type of social history that can benefit the understanding
of vagrancy in the

Comparing The Book The Hero With A Thousand Faces
The epic poem Beowulf, the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces, and many other literature
works all have references from the Anglo Saxon period. The Anglo Saxons had a very interesting
way of interpreting their way of life into great stories. Some of those interpretations are as follows:
true calling vs honor and glory, the symbolization of monsters, and the struggle of life. These
interpretations will show how the Anglo Saxon period and the epic poem relate together.
Stories and poems from the Anglo Saxons period have a hero with a true calling. The hero in story
will usually have some kind of a quest they need to complete to fulfill their assumed role. From a
book called The Hero with a Thousand Faces written by Joseph Campbell, there is ... Show more

Honor can also be earned by being a good leader such as a king. There are many poems that
display how a hero or king will receive honor. But can battling against someone or something go
too far when the hero s honor or his a opponent was on the line. In the poem the Iliad from book
22: The Death of Hector translated by Robert Fagles. In the Iliad there is battle between Achilles
and Hector. The battle started as a result of Hector killing Achilles dear friend Patroclus.During
the battle Hector knows he is going to die,so he asked Achilles for a dying requested. Hector
wanted to die an honor and knowing that he tried his best protect his friend and family. Achilles
applies to Hector s request to kill him in a honorable battle. But in the end Achilles defeats
Hector. According to the passage while Hector was clinging to his last breath, he said to
Achilles, I beg you, beg you by your life, your parents don t let the dogs devour me by the Argive
ships! Wait, take the princely ransom of bronze and gold, the gifts my father and noble mother
will give you but give my body to friends to carry home again, so Trojan men and Trojan women
can do me honor with fitting rites of fire once I am dead (Fagles the Iliad 73). But Achilles did
not honor this request, instead he made a mockery out of Hector s corpse. The passage states, now

The Symbols Of The Bear
Chose to write about this story because it is full of many ideas and symbols that are reflected in
reality. The author may have written this story for other reasons, but at least I understand it in a
different way and will work on a conceptual analysis of it.
I drew attention to this sentence mentioned by the writer in the first section
The encounter was unpremeditated on both sides. I was not hunting for a bear, and I have no
reason to suppose that a bear was looking for me. Because on the assumption that the bear is a
symbol of the problem and the narrator a symbol of man, the important question is: Does man seek
the cause of the problem as a result of his thinking or his actions, or is it the problems that seek
behind man, since it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact is that escape from the problem is not a kind of lack of courage, but it may be a tactical
withdrawal so that man can gather his strength and focuses his thinking on how to salvation.
What would be my wife s mortification when the news was brought that her husband had been
eaten by a bear! I think here is a kind of humor and fun by the author, which I find unacceptable
and illogical here in such dangerous moments. Instead of thinking about survival, he is looking for
what would be told after his death or the scandal that his family will suffer because he was killed
by a bear!
Perhaps the author wanted to slightly ease the reader from the tension caused by the story. The
writer finally beat the bear and managed to kill him. This teaches us persistence and patience until
we achieve victory and we can overcome the enemy.
The writer then returns to his home as a victor after overcoming his problem and killing the bear.
This reflects our sense of happiness and pride among family members, and that one is proud of
himself when overcoming his problems. Indeed, this may be one of the reasons for happiness in
life, but it is certain that happiness has many other

The Crooked Line Essay
Ismat Chughtai s The Crooked Line reads like a classic Bildungsroman in many ways. It is the
story of a child born in an environment which is fairly hostile who grows up and is able to move
away from this hostile environment on a journey of self discovery. This basic structure is, however,
where the similarity ends. A Bildungsroman is a novelof development of the central protagonist
from birth to a position of stability within the social sphere. This normative form functions as a
basis for Ismat Chughtais novel The Crooked Line but instead of being the pattern followed, it is
the path not taken. The normative Bildungsroman is that against which this novel rebels and tells
the story of a protagonist who follows a trajectory which is individualistic... Show more content on

As it avows to depict reality and change is a fundamental feature of reality, it is imperative that the
realist novel changes constantly as well. This implies that the structural foundation of a
Bildungsroman would also have to be modified in order to make it contemporary and also realist.
The nature of this change, especially in the European context is obvious in terms of the
transformation of the novel from depicting stability into a genre which hinges on the inherent
instability of a society. In his essay on this topic, Franco Moretti in his introduction to The Way of
the World argues that the new novel is the transformative novel. In this, he uses the model of the
novel of adultery in which the growth of a character is located in the sphere of adultery and
thereby is essentially an unstable stability. This instability forms the foundation of the novel form
in one more significant aspect; one which is critical for Chughtai s Shaman as well. Youth is
important for the central protagonist because it is the site of potential which is hitherto untapped.
This potential encapsulates the heroic potential of the protagonist and manifests itself in the
larger system of causality in the text. The trajectory which the central protagonist will choose to
follow is begun in a young age. The decisions of the character work as milestones against which
one may measure the success or the degree of closure provided by the ending. However, as
Moretti further elaborates, this Bildungsroman encapsulates within it another paradox; the
individual s growth cannot be parallel to societal growth as the social sphere exists in order to
suppress the individual. This implies that any authentic Bildungsroman hinges on the discovery of
a stable and viable alternative. That the protagonist will in some way find a balance between the
self and the world and therefore s/he will be able to develop personally as well as socially. This

Cause Of The French Revolution
A rebel is a person who defies authority. A rebellious person says, You can not do this to us, I
disagree. They are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in and say, This has been going on
too long and it needs to stop now. Now imagine the majority of the country, the majority of France
all saying, this needs to end now. That was the French Revolution. The third estate angry and poor,
helpless and furious together attack authority in rebellious ways. First, they attack the Bastille
which was the French jail and replace poor prisoners with elegant and rich aristocrats. Second, they
formed The National Assembly, which was the disagreement with the current government and a
formation of a new and improved one. Furthermore, the third... Show more content on

innocent man could be scented to death with the sign of a monarch signature on the Letter

s what defined what would happen to him (Vikram,Political). The rulers were cruel and selfish
beginning with Louis XVI. Louis XVI was a powerful monarch who participated in multiple wars
and claimed I am the state (Vikram,Political). After him monarch Louis VX took over who fought
over seven wars against England. The multiple wars indebted France and caused the French
government to become bankrupt (Vikram,Political). Another reason why France became bankrupt
was because of Marie Antoinette, who was the wife of king Louis XVI(Vikram,Political). She
always interfered with political agreements and decisions. She was known for her abuse of royal
spending allowing France to have multiple financial issues (Vikram,Political). France s bankruptcy
and financial problems led to people starving in the streets, only eating whatever scraps they could
find. It led to even poorer and contaminated living conditions, as well as multiple taxes to the
government in order to pay off France s debt (Vikram,Political). Bankruptcy left the economy
unbearable, broken, and destroyed. If rights and now health, money, and happiness were taken

Don Name Changed For Confidentiality Essay
Ben (name changed for confidentiality), a young boy with Down Syndrome and anxiety lessened
much of his anxiety working with the horses, that I had the pleasure of working under the
supervision of an occupational therapist. When Ben first started working with the program he was
afraid to get near the horseand did not even want to come close enough to get on let alone pet the
horse. We worked with him on deep breathing techniques, muscle control and some speech therapy.
By the end of the eight week session we worked with Ben, he was able to not only get near the
horse, but by the last day, he was giving the horse a kiss on the nose. His mother said that the deep
breathing techniques that we equipped him with not only helped him in therapy, but in his
everyday life when he was feeling anxious. During the summer of 2016, I volunteered as a summer
intern at a therapeutic horseback riding organization, We Can Ride Inc. They offer therapeutic
horse back riding, therapeutic ground lesson working on personal care with the horses, equine
assisted psychotherapy but, most interestingly they offer hippotherapy, equine assisted occupational
therapy. My time with We Can Ride Inc. confirmed my desire to work in a helping profession, in
a hands on way with clients to make their lives better. During my eight weeks with We Can Ride
Inc., I was so impressed and excited by the progress I was able to see in the clients that I worked

Similarities And Differences Between Northern And Southern...
In the 1800 s, the United States was split up between the North and South. They had to be split
because there was different types of conditions and governments. The northern and southern
societies had some similarities and many differences. First, the economics in the northern and
southern societies had various similarities and differences. The Northhad a better economy than the
South. In the North, people were wage owners. Immigrants supplied labor for economy growth.
There were no slaves; the workers earned something, even if it was almost nothing. In both the
North and the South, people worked roughly twelve to fourteen hours each day. The South was
an agricultural economy. In the South, slaves were usually a large percent of the workers; they
were not paid for their work. Slaves were forced to work, and when they did their jobs wrong,
they were abused until they could barely walk. Slaves and African Americans were treated
horribly in both the North and the South. Additionally, the social statuses played a large part in
everyday situations in the 1800 s. In the North, factory owners were the wealthiest, so they were
highest on the social pyramid. Artisans were second on the social pyramid. They were needed by
factory owners because of their amazing skills. Factory workers were in the middle of the
pyramid. Workers were paid minimum wage to work long hours, and the factory owners treated
them like machines. Factory workers were not allowed to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

  • 2. Essay on The Pros and Cons of Franchising Advantages Disadvantages of Franchising Franchising is a continuing relationship in which the franchisor (the owner of a company) provides a licensed privilege to the franchisee (the buyer) to do business and offers assistance in organising, training, merchandising, marketing, and managing in return for a consideration. It is a form of business by which the franchisor of a product, service, or method obtains distribution through affiliated dealers (franchisees). (http:/ /www.business.gov) A franchiseis essentially a replica of an existing business. When you purchase a franchise, you buy the rights to use the parent company s name and to sell its product or service in exchange for an up front franchise fee and ongoing royalties, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, expansion can proceed at a much faster pace than would otherwise be possible, enabling the franchisor to achieve increased market share whilst benefiting from economies of scale. (http://www.butterfield.co.za) Finally, franchisors can benefit from the cultural knowledge and know how of local managers. This can be helpful in lowering the risk of business failure in unfamiliar markets, as well as creating a competitive advantage. Franchising offers franchisees the advantage of starting up a new business quickly based on a proven trademark and way of doing business, as opposed to building a new business from scratch. The franchised business is based on a proven idea and has an existing customer base, therefore making it much easier to sell your product than it would if you were to start up your own business. By buying into a franchise you are gaining the benefit of the franchisors experience as well as the name and reputation that has already been built up by the franchisor. Therefore it is no wonder that according to the U.S. Commerce Department, an estimated 95% of franchises succeed, whereas only 25 35% of independent businesses succeed. (http://money.howstuffworks.com) It is also not surprising that franchising makes up for about 3.2 percent of all businesses and 35 percent of all retail and service revenue in the United States, proving that it is big business. Franchising is very often a wise choice because consumers like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Trader Joe Essay According to the textbook, Trader Joe is not a gourmet food store or a discount food store. Trader Joe actually specializes in selling gourmet food at a discounted price. This store is also a cultural experience. Trader Joe sells luxury things such as Organic Creamy Valencia peanut butter, cage free eggs, and more. All of these gourmet food that is generally sold for high prices are generally given away almost little to nothing. In order to sustain itself in the market, Trader Joe puts its own special twist on the food price value. Their price value slogan is cheap gourmet . Also, Joe s price incentive attracts devoted customers who love what they purchase from the prices they pay. So what concept does Trader Joe utilize? Trader Joe utilizes the concept of marketing strategy, though the element of prices. According to the textbook on page 299, before setting a price, the company must decide on its overall marketing strategy for the products or service . In this case a company s overall strategy is built around its price and value story (300). For Joe Trader s example, Joe stations its prices around what they offer, and charge for the product. Instead of selling the exclusive Charles Shaw wine for its actual expensive price, it sells this product for only 2.99. • 4. Batman The Unexpected Cultural Revolution Summary Critique of Batman, The unexpected Cultural Revolution In the essay Batman, The Unexpected Cultural Revolution Chris Gould sheds light on Batman, and how the comics are described as dismal yet the show was made to be laughable with a main character described as gentle. The main point of Gould s essay is that the show has become a pop art utopia (pg. 268) and how it shaped the morals of a young generation. The Batman TV show thus became a depiction of pop art utopia, where bright colors forever defeated darkness, where creativity forever defeated logic and Good forever triumphed over Evil. (Gould 1). The author of Batman, the unexpected Cultural Revolution made the argument that Batman left a lasting impact on society and he uses valid information to prove his point. Chris Gould explains how William Dozier introduced Batman, the crime fighting superhero, to TV in 1966. The show was about a man in a suit that fought crime with his teenage sidekick. The show was aimed at families, it wanted to send a positive message to younger viewers. Gould also notes that the show analized a number of trends that were occurring during that time such as; the hippie movement, corruption in politics, the power of technology, and pop art. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gould is impassive in his essay, however, the show scorned hippies on two separate occasions. The first time hippies were scorned when A flower power criminal named Louis the Lilac, played by Milton Berle, was created to illustrate this point, expressing the belief that hippies could be controlled and manipulated to serve his own nefarious ends. (Gould 270).Gould uses this to provide evidence for his claim that writers disliked the young social movements, so it was surprising the show actually became as popular with pop art. Gould described one episode that made fun of pop art ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Importance of Accountability PV2 Starling, LaTonya Importance of Accountability The importance of accountability and communication in the Military is so each and every personal is all on the same page. Also so our organization runs smooth. Communication is the heart of what makes the United States Army what it is today. Without communication vital information would not be passed down from the Chief of Command to a chain of Non Commissioned Officers to the soldiers. Not to mention, innocent lives would be in jeopardy, missions would be misconstrued, and simple information from NCO to soldier would be conflicted. If you always have a hundred percent accountability you will never have any problems like wondering where someone is or like wondering why something missing. If you ever have a problem like that then it is because you are not doing a very good job at keeping track of anything. If someone like that were to be in charge of a large group of people and not know if someone could be missing is not a good way to be leader. That s why being disciplined on it early in your career is important. I understand. One example of being responsible would be to remember to properly PMCS you re vehicle prior to taking it on mission. The responsible thing to do would be to go through every aspect of the PMCS and not taking any shortcuts. The UN recognized the lack of progress in DRC and adopted the resolution creating the Intervention Brigade unanimously. These difficulties had already been highlighted previously and it was recommended to address the violence issue in a more robust way, notably after the humanitarian failures of the 1990s (genocide in Rwanda, in Srebrenica, massacres in refugee camps in DRC , etc.) Resolution 2098 created a new mandate for the stabilization force in the DRC (Mission de l Organisation des Nations Unies pour la stabilisation en RГ©publique dГ©mocratique du Congo, or MONUSCO) which included a Force Intervention Brigade (FIB) tasked with carrying out targeted offensive operations to neutralize armed groups with the intent of preventing violence against civilians and protecting them under imminent threat . But, imagine a world where you cannot see the good one day, but then the next every single detail of life is good. In order to understand what it is like to have your emotions throws around like they are in a hurricane, you must first understand what it is to be bipolar. If a person would like to better understand bipolar disorder, he would have to look at the life of a patient with the disorder, and understand the definition, causes, symptoms, and treatments for the disorder. Bipolar I disorder may be defined as experiencing severe mood swings ranging from extreme happiness to depression, and bipolar II disorder is a milder form of bipolar I disorder. Cyclothymic disorder is the result of hypomania followed by intense phases of depression. Bipolar disorder may affect people of all ages, including children, and it affects men and women equally. Finally, according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), 5.7 million Americans are bipolar, and because of this, bipolar disorder is the sixth leading cause of disability in the United States (Bipolar Disorder Statistics, n.d, p. 1). Why Coding Should Be Mandatory In Public Education Coding Should Be Mandatory in Public Education As robotics continues to integrate with current occupations, an increasing amount of industries are experiencing demand for computer programming or coding skills. Robots are becoming prevalent in numerous industries across the globe, Allen 4 consuming a myriad of once uniquely human jobs (Johnson). Businesses and industries are implementing robotics and coding more extensively in this digital era. This supports the idea that as robot implementation meets human innovation, people naturally change those aspects of their lives, which may mean a need for greater emphasis on CS education. Robots will continue to consume once primarily human jobs, creating a more vastly integrated workforce. Students today will work alongside these robots and/or be the ones coding them in the future (Wohl). Thus, it is becoming more necessary to educate students starting at an elementary level to be technologically literate by not just interfacing with computers and robots, but understanding them and speaking their language a skill with a growing demand (Raja 610). Coding is becoming an essential skill in the job market allowing workers to adapt to the integrated human robot workforce; therefore, it is imperative that CS and coding education be mandatory and begin early. There is currently robotic disruption in many sectors like education, energy, health, and transportation. For example, companies have begun designing robots to aid special education students, and much like automobiles, robots have been implemented in solar panel production decreasing costs and increasing precision (Johnson). This is because the audit firm was not under a contract agreement with the major shareholder, and the fact that the major shareholder can be considered a third party in the contract between Jimmy Farnham and Aussie Outback Tours Ltd. The law is not definitively clear on the auditor s liability to third parties (Porter, Г“ hГ“gartaigh Baskerville, 2012). An auditor owes a duty of care to their direct client, and any damages incurred by the client due to negligence on the part of the auditor makes the auditor liable in terms of contract and also in tort (Nguyen Rajapakse, 2008). The fact that Jimmy was not familiar with the new system of accounting that the client was implementing and therefore not involved in the changeover process absolves him and his audit firm from direct liability. It is also hard to prove that the error in material inventory that resulted from the changeover was committed when Jimmy was auditing the firm or at the instance of feeding the data into the system. Admittance to liability is also dependent on whether the auditor had placed disclaimers of responsibility in the preparation of the audit reports. The criteria for the determination of the auditor s liability to other parties apart from the clients are as follows: The defendant must have reasonably foreseen that the statements would be put to use by the plaintiff A relevant degree of proximity must exist between the parties involved in the litigation The imposition of a duty for care by the plaintiff on the defendant must be just and reasonable (Davies, 1991; ACCA, 2009). To add, civilizations through history such as the Greek used masks to impersonate people and built their masks in a fashion where it acted as a megaphone. • 12. Analysis Of Marie De FranceBy Marie De France Marie de France begins her story by describing Bisclavret, her main character, as well as defining what a werewolf is: a ferocious beast which, when possessed by this madness, devours men, causes great damage and dwells in vast forests (de France, 68). She wants to relate the two by allowing the reader to decide what she means by the descriptions and why she would correlate them. De France does a little play and twists the monsters throughout her story. Being a werewolf, Bisclavret may start out as a monster without; and, at first, his wife seems to be so beautiful and innocent, but there lied a monster within her. Later in the story, Bisclavret is no more than a human being, and his wife s monstrousness shows from within and she transforms into a monster without. The themes gathered from this story are the relationship between love and suffering, justice, and the wife who may be at first likable, but then changes the way that monsters are viewed. In order to modify the stereotypes of what a monster is, de France made Bisclavret, a werewolf, the good guy, and his beautiful wife, an unforeseen bad guy. The wife in the story Bisclavret portrays a trustworthy, loving wife, until she reacts quite differently to him being honest with whom he really is. Her character is the very thing, which makes the reader reconsider the definition of a monster and the truth about monsters within. The relationship between Bisclavret and his wife seems to be a very good and healthy bond ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The diversionary planes dropped off chaff, dummies and noisemakers at areas away from the actual Drop Zones. The main wave went around the Cotentin peninsula and entered the German airspace over the west Cotentin coast. They flew in the northwest direction over the Drop Zones, and exited through Utah Beach. The paratrooper s experience at Italy taught high command that in order for the paratroopers to be effective, they needed to be dropped in tight formations. The pilots of the troop carrier aircrafts received extensive training, and flew the majority of the flight in tight V of V formations. The lack of advanced flight instruments created navigation problems for the pilots. The Eureka Rebecca beacons were only effective in giving an approximation of the locations of the Drop Zones, therefore pilots needed to visually identify the Aldis Lamps in the darkness. Some pilots found nothing the pathfinders did not have enough time to set up the drop zones, or that German troops were nearby and had to rely on landmarks such as railroads and towns to make a reasonable guess of their Drop Zones. This created a great amount of confusion, and as a result the majority of the parachute drops were badly scattered. • 15. Organisational Culture And Organizational Culture Organisational culture refers to the shared beliefs and values guiding the thinking and behavioural styles of members (Cooke and Rousseau, 1988, in Bratton 2010: 334), indicating that employees who accept the common values of an organisation and put great effort on commitments are likely to build up a strong culture to an organisation. Edgar Schein (2004) proposed three levels of organisational culture. As employees go through changes, they gain experiences from the past, adapt to a new environment and develop ability to solve problem. The first level is artefacts, which include all visible characteristics of an organisation, for instance, the architectures/furniture in the office, uniforms of employees and language. These are the observable elements of an organisational culture and might influence the way and attitude of how the employees work. The second level is espoused values in which the influence patterns of observable behaviour at work can be recognised. Each member will impose dominant values and rules of conduct about the culture and these affect employees certainty to work under a particular area. The perceived value that can demonstrate reliability and be scientifically tested will be transformed into assumption. It then comes to the third stage of basic assumptions which are taken into granted and are difficult to change. When an assumption or belief about human nature was supported to be worked successfully, this frames how the reality should be and shapes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Character Recognition By Machines, An Innovative Way By... Abstract Character Recognition by machines is an innovative way by which the dependence on manpower is reduced. Character recognition provides a reliable alternative of converting manual text into digitized format. Now a days, as technology becomes integral part of human life, many applications have enabled the incorporation of English OCR for real time inputs. The advantages that the English alphabet has is its simplicity offered by less number of letters i.e. 26 and easier classification due to the concept of lowercase and uppercase. If we consider Devnagari script in this scenario, we will come across myriad hurdles because this script lacks the simplicity of English. The concept of fused letters, modifiers, shirorekha and spitting similarities in some letters make recognition difficult. Also, character recognition for handwritten text is far more complex than that for machine printed characters. This is because of the versatility and different writing techniques adopted by people. The direction of strokes, pressure applied on writing equipments, quality of writing equipment and the mentality of the writer itself highly affects the written text. These problems when combined with the intricate details of Devnagari script, the complications in constructing a HCR of this script are increased. The proposed system focuses on these two issues by adopting Hough transform for detecting features from lines and curves. Further, for classification, SVM is used. These two methods ... For some, it may seem easier to download your favorite song from your favorite artist, but there are rules to the file sharing and downloading of music. Before there was file sharing, people would gather in concert halls for impressive music from some of the best known composers of all time. Today, there has been an abundance of ways to access and listen to music, in writing this paper, my goal is to discuss copyrightlaws, file sharing, and the progression of how we access music. There are many social media platforms out there including Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, the list goes on and on. But, is it hurting the way we communicate with others around us on a day to day basis? Before these platforms were introduced to the public, people were only able to communicate with others through the use of letters or by speaking to one another face to face. Since technology has started to take over, more and more people are meeting people all over the world that they weren t able to talk to before. However, since online communicationis global, that means instead of having to just please those around us, some of us think we have to please every single person that we encounter on social media. This isn t much of a good thingbecause it forces us to worry about what people we haven t even met before think about us, rather than worrying about what s going on around you. Social media may make communicating with others easier, but it also has the power to take us away from the important things happening in our lives. In populated cities it was hectic to find taxi on urgent basis, Uber tackled this issue and gave service which is handled by a smart phone app and claims to provide taxi with in exact 10 minutes of ordering the service. • 33. The Pros And Cons Of Japanese Internment December 7th, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Army successfully pulled of the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. After this attack the government of Canada used the war measures act to remove all Japanese Canadian citizens that live 160km from the Pacific Coast and put them in internment camps until 1949, four years after WW2. Fast Forward to 1988 and the Canadian government gives an apology to the Japanese, however the apology was for more than just Japanese Internment it was for the pain and suffering, discrimination, and for leaving Japanese citizens with nothing. One of the most justified reasons for the apology would be how the Canadian Government caused the pain and suffering amongst Japanese Canadians. Firstly, the 22,000 Japanese Canadian citizens and residents were taken from their homes on Canadas West Coast without any charge or due process and exiled to remote areas of Eastern British Columbia (Greg Robinson, Internment of Japanese Canadians). In addition, the RCMP arrested suspected operatives while the Royal Canadian Navy impounded 1,200 Japanese fishing boats, and to avoid racist backlash Japanese newspapers, as well as schools were voluntarily shut down. In this time the Japanese population in Canada had been greatly damaged and families became separated into the internment camps. Moving on, my second point for further justification is the Labor Camps Japanese Canadians were placed in, further increasing pain and suffering. Because of the amount of political ... Unfortunately for Krispy Kreme, their product offering is mostly doughnuts, all of which are high in carbohydrates, and therefore on the blacklist of many Americans. In fact, as Americans become smarter about their health and their food choices, we can expect doughnut sales across America to drop with time. Loss of the niche aspect of the product As Krispy Kreme rapidly expands by opening up new stores and franchises, the supply of their doughnuts has increased dramatically. Krispy Kreme s doughnuts used to be in very high demand, in our opinion because of the scarcity of the product: knowing that you can t have the product any time, any where, made it more desirable. Now that Krispy Kreme locations are more accessible, as well as the doughnuts being sold across grocery and convenience stores nation wide, the product has become more of a commodity rather than the niche product it once was. • 35. Motherhood, the Needle and Thread Think of one person you can turn to for advice, expect love and warmth from, or tell you who you should be dating. In most cases one s mother or a mother figure would spring into their minds. Motherhood is and underlying theme that affects all characters in both Persepolis and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Essentially, it highlights the unfair treatment directed towards women in their countries. During the course of both novels all women, even those who were not mothers, are burdened with the strict morals imposed upon them. For instance, Marjane had issues with staying true to herself and Laila had difficulties with raising her daughter Aziza and son Zalmai. These religious and governmental restrictions enforced upon women by men facilitated in painting a clear portrayal of sacrifice, strength and love that women and mothers needed to attain in order to survive. Despite the prevalence of a masculine dominant society, the true importance of motherhood and femininity prevails; binding the novels Persepolis and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Relative to both novels, motherhood can be assigned an all encompassing definition. Motherhood is the feeling of warmth, cultural memory, and freedom; it is willing to sacrifice anything for the betterment of the child. One does not have to physically bare an offspring to be considered a mother. To embrace the characteristics of motherhood means presenting ultimate love and affection and using complete agency when raising the child. Maternity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As they differ in terms of technique, function and intent, there are still few similarities that are drawn between the two. Although one is subversive and the other is not, it is the one that is, that is most in question. A defining difference is that street art does not directly emerge from Hip Hop in contrast, graffiti does. Graffiti is not only an art form it is highly recognized as a cultural movement that has spread across the globe as a sub genre of Hip Hop (Blanchard. B, 1999) Street artists are sometimes seen as middle class gallery artists that curate their work on the street whereas graffiti is not. An example of this is a mural being painted outside a museum perhaps. In contrast graffiti artists are more interested in presenting a statement in the spontaneity and minimalism of their work. Graffiti artists are also seen as being more invested in the art on a more personal level; by nature it rejects the concept of commissions. Contemporary Social Issues Of DACA Part I Introduction: The Contemporary Social Issue of DACA A social issue that is currently whirling around the United States is the discussion of what is going to happen with DACA recipients. DACA stands for The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and they are also commonly referred to as Dreamers (Michelle Mark 2017). The DACA act was set in place in 2012 by President Barrack Obama and it provided young immigrants the chance to apply for temporary protection from deportation. Often times children are too young to know what is going on and their parents bring them into the United States so they are then protected under the DACA act. It is also only eligible to immigrants who have been in the United States since 2007 and were under 16 years of age; 30 or younger as of June 2012, in high school or have a diploma or GED and a clean criminal record (Dara Lind 2017). The program does not grant legal status, put them on a path to citizenship and or legalization (Michelle Mark 2017). The protection does allow these people to get authorization to work and obtain a valid driver s license in some states. DACA provides the opportunity for them to have the chance to further their education, buy cars, homes and even the possibility of starting a business (Dara Lind 2017). • 38. Analysis Of Janice Mirikitani s Suicide Note It s easy to feel worthless. Almost every person feels this deep emotion at some time in life, but people handle it different. Everywhere people are always judging. Judgement from parents, from family, and even from friends is inescapable. People can tear themselves down in many ways, such as through school, not feeling they look good enough, and even just not feeling like they re ever good enough to be living on Earth. In Janice Mirikitani s poem SuicideNote, it talks about an Asian American student currently in college. She tries her hardest, she wants to succeed and make her parents proud. Her parents have high standards for her, as they want her to receive a 4.0 grade point average. Although she gives her best effort, her grade point average is still less than a 4.0, and for that reason her parents are not proud of her, she s not their perfect, ideal daughter. So she enters that point where she no longer feels proud of her accomplishments, she feels worthless, and unintelligent. She decides to commit suicide by jumping out of a window in her college dorm. In her suicide noteshe apologizes to her parents for not being good enough. Suicide Note is a free form poem, it has no set stanzaic pattern, the sentences break in unexpected places, and the structure varies throughout the poem. It uses imagery to connect with the reader, and the stanzas are set up in way that make the lines to appear as they are falling. Through the use of enjambment, and end stopped line the ... Since the 1960s comparative analyses and case studies have been central to a revisionist historiographical approach. Historians such as A.L. Beier and Paul Slack, following in the footsteps of E.P. Thompson, reshaped the way that the history of the poor laws was being made in the 1980s through their use of social history. Their examinations of povertyduring Tudor and Stuart England through the use of governmental statutes and proclamations, as well as local sources, set the stage for later histories of poverty and poor relief. It was the product of profound social dislocations a huge and growing poverty problem, disastrous economic and demographic shifts and massive migration and had important political consequences. Beier s work truly shows the values of examining the context of vagrancy and legislation through a social lens that captures more than a strict examination of official records. Future scholarship should continue to focus on the actual context of vagrant life and the political and economic dimensions of the influence of vagrancy on the ground level. However, Beier s insistence that historians that focused on demographics were weak is overstated. Comparing The Book The Hero With A Thousand Faces The epic poem Beowulf, the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces, and many other literature works all have references from the Anglo Saxon period. These interpretations will show how the Anglo Saxon period and the epic poem relate together. Stories and poems from the Anglo Saxons period have a hero with a true calling. The author may have written this story for other reasons, but at least I understand it in a different way and will work on a conceptual analysis of it. I drew attention to this sentence mentioned by the writer in the first section The encounter was unpremeditated on both sides. I was not hunting for a bear, and I have no reason to suppose that a bear was looking for me. I think here is a kind of humor and fun by the author, which I find unacceptable and illogical here in such dangerous moments. Instead of thinking about survival, he is looking for what would be told after his death or the scandal that his family will suffer because he was killed by a bear! Perhaps the author wanted to slightly ease the reader from the tension caused by the story. The writer finally beat the bear and managed to kill him. This teaches us persistence and patience until we achieve victory and we can overcome the enemy. The writer then returns to his home as a victor after overcoming his problem and killing the bear. It is the story of a child born in an environment which is fairly hostile who grows up and is able to move away from this hostile environment on a journey of self discovery. This basic structure is, however, where the similarity ends. A Bildungsroman is a novelof development of the central protagonist from birth to a position of stability within the social sphere. As it avows to depict reality and change is a fundamental feature of reality, it is imperative that the realist novel changes constantly as well. This implies that the structural foundation of a Bildungsroman would also have to be modified in order to make it contemporary and also realist. The nature of this change, especially in the European context is obvious in terms of the transformation of the novel from depicting stability into a genre which hinges on the inherent instability of a society. In his essay on this topic, Franco Moretti in his introduction to The Way of the World argues that the new novel is the transformative novel. In this, he uses the model of the novel of adultery in which the growth of a character is located in the sphere of adultery and thereby is essentially an unstable stability. This instability forms the foundation of the novel form in one more significant aspect; one which is critical for Chughtai s Shaman as well. Youth is important for the central protagonist because it is the site of potential which is hitherto untapped. This potential encapsulates the heroic potential of the protagonist and manifests itself in the larger system of causality in the text. The trajectory which the central protagonist will choose to follow is begun in a young age. The decisions of the character work as milestones against which one may measure the success or the degree of closure provided by the ending. However, as Moretti further elaborates, this Bildungsroman encapsulates within it another paradox; the individual s growth cannot be parallel to societal growth as the social sphere exists in order to suppress the individual. This implies that any authentic Bildungsroman hinges on the discovery of a stable and viable alternative. That the protagonist will in some way find a balance between the self and the world and therefore s/he will be able to develop personally as well as socially. This developmental ...
