Evaluation: Question 2  How does your media product present particular social groups?
Gender
Gender: Men as Dominant   • In our opening sequence we have represented, at first, Men as dominant  • We have done this by:  • Using low angles of the man over the woman to connote his power over her  • Using a loud 'slap' sound effect when he hits her to show the impact it has
Gender: Men as Dominant   • The man is wearing a dark costume, representing him as dangerous  • However, the woman wears white costume representing her as innocent  • The contrast of this makes the man seem more dominant than the female  • The idea of representing the male gender as dominant is stereotypical
Gender: Women as Dominant   • However, by the end of the sequence, we have represented women as dominant  • We have done this by:  • Showing shots of the woman on her own, where the man is nowhere in sight  • Her white costume changes to black to show her strength and dependence
Gender: Women as Dominant   • We hear the woman's voice over throughout the sequence  • This gives her power as she's able to convey her thought and feelings  • This is an anti-stereotypical representation of women  • This is because women are usually represented as inferior to men
Age
Age: Young Relationships   • We have tried to represent young relationships as potentially dangerous  • We have done this by:  • Using a contrast between the two shots of the couple together  • and the low angle shots of the male abusing the female  • This contrast emphasises the dangers of the relationship
Age: Young Relationships   • We have also done this by:  • Using a contrast between the soundtracks used in the sequence  • When the couple are on the bench the soundtrack is calm and peaceful  • This changes to where the male is abusive and the soundtrack builds tension  • This contrast also emphasises the change in tone and therefore the dangers
