This document discusses conventions that the author's music video both uses and challenges in relation to typical indie music video conventions. It notes that the video conforms to indie conventions in its costumes, props, close-ups of instruments, and use of black and white and slow motion effects. However, it also challenges conventions by including masks, bandanas, and wings not typically seen and through its use of an overlay video on top of the band playing, developing on a technique used by The 1975.

• Mise-en-scene:
The costumes for our music videos do conform to the indie
style that indie bands go for e.g. simple t-shirt and jeans
look, as well as leather jackets.
Also the props used such as instruments are conforming to
indie music videos such asThe 1975’s videos and Catfish and
the Bottlemen’s videos.
• Camera:
Many close ups of instruments being played to show the
bands talents like many indie bands do.
Long shots of the artists to show costumes.
• Editing:
Use of black and white effect in our music video like many
other indie artists such as,The Neighbourhood and Arctic
Monkeys.
Many slow motion effects and an increase in the pace of our
music video conforms to other music videos like ‘The City’ by
The 1975.

• Mise-en-scene:
Mask, bandanas and wings are not normally used in indie
music videos.Although there are some videos which do not
conform to the conventions of indie music videos likeThe
1975 who wear bandanas in their music video ‘Robbers’.
• Camera:
There are no extreme close ups of the singer singing the song
like many indie music videos have.
• Editing:
Many indie music videos are simple, just a few slow motions,
however with our music videos we have added an overlay of
another video on top of the band playing.WhereasThe 1975
have used an overlay in their music video, we were inspired
by their idea of the overlay, thus why we have a video of the
time lapse filmed in Euston on top of the band.
