2. After undertaking our preliminary task, myself and
Grace decided we wanted our clip to be action so we
each looked at a range of different film openings to
know what to include in our film. These included
different action/adventure films of different
certificates. The films were films we really liked and
were keen to look at what was involved in the first
two minutes.
I found I needed to look at the camera
work, Editing, Mise en scene and the plot and how
they are used in this particular genre

3. The films I looked at for research were:
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Goonies
The A-Team
Star wars
These helped me with what i was going to include in
my clip.

4. I found out that in most of the films I looked at, the
first shots after the establishing shot, often
introduced the main character, which I decided to
include in my clip. This gives the viewer a first view of
who they are and to understand the character

5. I found out that Star Wars and the A- Team both
included non diagetic music in the first two minutes
which created tension and mood. I implied this in my
clip but switched to more dull dark music towards
the end, where it was building up. I felt this created a
more tense situation, using the different tracks.

6. Like the Goonies, we used shot reverse shot between
characters conversations to show there reactions
and how they communicated with each other.

7. Looking at pirates of the Caribbean I found that male
characters are usually the centre of the action that is
taking place. I chose Matt to play the lead character
as males are often involved in the centre of the
action

8. Tracking shots were a common shot in the films I
looked at. I used tracking shots in my clip to show
the characters and their surrounding area. I thought
these really added to the fast pace and action of the
clip and went well with the genre.

9. I found from all of the films I looked at they involve a
villain so I used this in my clip at the end to create
tension and wanting the viewers to see more. Here
we also chose to do a tracking shot around
Matt, Martha and Emily to show how they were
reacting when the villain was in their view.

10. In pirates of the Caribbean dull, dark non diagetic
music plays as the villain comes into shot. I decided
to use this towards the end of our clip to build up
tension suddenly. I felt it added to the whole ‘Thriller’
side, which we wanted to try and put in.

11. In Pirates of the Caribbean, parallel editing is used between
characters. I decided to incorporate this in my film to
show how individual characters were reacting at
different stages. These were quick shots which kept
flicking back and forth to add to the whole running
scenes.

12. I feel that this research helped me with filming and
editing my clip as I gathered a range of different
ideas which I wouldn’t of thought of without them. I
thought I had chosen a wide range of different shot
types and suitable music for the action/ adventure
genre.
