CHALLENGING THE STEREOTYPE
The genre of our film is drama/ adventure. Our character, JJ, a young
adult/teenager is from a working background. To make sure that JJ
looked of this certain age, we chose Theo (Theo is 16) who is of a
similar age to JJ. Teenagers of JJ’s age and his background are
stereotypically reckless, rugged and mischievous, JJ fits into this
stereotype very well. We porously paid lots of attention to the mise en
scene and dress code JJ was wearing, because first impressions is
everything, when it comes to someone judging, the people judging are
the audience. The audiences first impressions should be that JJ is an
irresponsible teenager. The first few shots of JJ are him lying on remote
field, this gives the impression that he has been involved in some sort
of anti social behavior, like drinking and doing drugs. His black eye and
bruised face suggests that he has been beaten up and thrown into a
field.
CODE AND CONVECTIONS OF THE TITLE.
The first title shown on our film is the ident ‘Magnetic Productions’ I
created this ident on Photoshop, Charlie further edited this on Premier
Pro to create a wavy electric effect, in addition, Charlie added sound
effects of electrics buzzing. The second title, is our film production
company- Studio Canal. Studio Canal is a French film production and
distribution company, it is the worlds third largest film library, its
headquarters are in London. We decided to use Studio Canal as our
production company because, it’s a typical film production for an
English Film. The opening establishing shot, has a small one line stripe
font. Through out the film, there are different names, for directors,
costume designers and producers. We left the name (JJ) of the film near
to the end our opening sequence. We decided to have this title on a
transition because we wanted the audience to know both sides of the
opening sequence, before and after he had taken drugs and been
beaten up.
ESTABLISHING SHOTS
Our opening shot is an establishing shot looking out onto the ocean, on a
cliff edge. This is a particularly nice opening shot because of the
contrast of dark colors like the sea and the cliffs surrounding the
shores and the dirty white clouds up above. One nice aspect is that you
can slowly see the light maneuver of the dark ocean. Using the rule of
the thirds, the distant cliffs to the right of the shot is particularly
pleasant on the eye. This opening shot introduces the setting of our
opening sequence. Because of JJ background, we have set the town to
