1. What have you learnt about
technologies from the construction
process?
2. Process
In order to do my magazine I would have to get a model that would fit in with the
conventions of my genre, Hip-Hop. After I had done that I would have to find the
correct costume and setting for the photographs. As my magazine was based on quite
an urban genre the theme I wanted all my pictures to go with was ‘urban jungle’ this is
why I did a lot of my photography outside, in order to show the streets of London
which is a focal point of my magazine. With a focus on UK HIP-HOP. I then had to
secure a camera so I borrowed my friends cannon. It was very straight forward to use
however I just kept to the basic functions of the camera in order to not mess around
with the quality of the images.
3. Websites
I used dafont.com in order to download and test some new fonts for my magazine.
That I could use throughout, including on my cover. Dafont has a wide range of text
styles and fonts so I was easily able to select a range of texts before narrowing it
down. I also used social networking sites such as twitter to post images and get
feedback on my work in order to see how it could be improved and enhanced. This
allowed me to get views from different people and audiences worldwide making sure I
got mixed and balanced ideas. I also used a mobile phone service called BBM which
allows me to send pictures and messages in regards to my work but the good thing
was that it allowed me to get answers almost instantly.
4. Post production software
After I finished taking pictures I used adobe Photoshop in order to enhance and touch
up all of my photography. I had minimal experience in Photoshop so I had to use
online tutorials. While researching these tutorials online I found different pieces of
software by adobe which I also downloaded and attempted to use in order to give my
magazine more of a professional look . I used adobe illustrator to make my logo for my
magazine as it gave me more freedom in regards to the design of my magazine logo. It
is also a professional piece of software so the end result came out looking very good
and I was overall very pleased with it. I attempted to use adobe ID for my double page
spread however I found it too complex and so I avoided using the
Software and made my double page
Spread on Photoshop instead. I also
Used Word to type up my double
Page spread story.
5. Web applications
I used different web applications to present my research and findings as well as any
analysis. I used voice thread, prezi, wikispaces , YouTube and many more. This was
good as it allowed me to branch out into different web applications as well as put my
work on a public domain so that I could receive feedback from others in regards to
what aspects of my work needed improvement or what parts were good and needed
no change. I enjoyed using all the web applications but I think the best ones were the
social networking ones. I say this due to the fact that with recent merges between
media and social networking it was easy to post different things in regards to my
magazine and get instant replies. Wikispaces however is the most important as it was
a source that I could upload my work onto and pull it from at any time from any
location. This meant my work was mobile on a cloud storage like system.
