This document discusses ethics and morality. It defines ethics as encompassing a person's whole philosophy of life and moral behaviors, derived from the Greek word for customs. Morality refers to moral codes of conduct. It differentiates ethics from morality and outlines five reasons for studying ethics: to live authentically, be more successful, have inner peace, provide stability to society, and potentially help in the afterlife according to some religions. The document also describes the three divisions of ethics: meta-ethics which studies the nature and meaning of ethical principles; normative ethics which provides guidelines for right behavior; and applied ethics which evaluates particular ethical issues in various fields.
