What is Essential/Critical
Infrastructure?
Essential Infrastructure or ‘Critical Infrastructure’ means assets, infrastructure, systems and networks that
provide essential services necessary for social and economic wellbeing.
Now, more than ever, the country is reliant on fixed line and mobile communications networks.
Telecommunications has therefore been included as one of the critical sectors in new government regulations
and legislation in response to dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak. (Ref: Department of cultural media and
sport 2020)

Introduction
• There was a deadline to have the video
network up and running within months
• Fiber was considered but installation was a
long term project.
• Fiber had also experienced cuts and failures
operating in this outdoor environment
• The solution had to be highly secure
• Over 200 highly secure, IP67 rated 1Gbps
radios installed supporting 230 cameras
• Deployed in weeks
• System is secure from hacking and
jamming
• Low power consumption important given
many sites are solar powered
• Perimeter security now 100% video based
• 1Gbps network transporting HD quality
video with capacity to scale to 4K when
ready
• System was approved by the NRC
• Duke has committed to expanding the
solution to additional power plants
The complex of three reactors maintained perimeter
security with a large contingent of trucks and humans
operating around the clock. Duke was looking for a
way to provide equal levels of security but using a
video network instead

Introduction
• Deploy a comprehensive video security
system with the same quality and speed
as fiber
• Fiber was the previous standard
• Trenching take too much time
• 60GHz mmWave PMP system from Siklu
• Deploy in a matter of days instead of
weeks
• Zero interference
• Up to 24 cameras per station
• Faster capacity per pump to the command
center enabling high speed capacity to a
pump
• Opening a gas station faster (more
income)
• Cameras an AP’s working without delay
A company aggressively growing the gas stations
business in Mexico with the need for security and
control over the operations of the station. The target
project is for 500 gas stations

Introduction Sheffield Smart City
Sheffield Wifi
Creating a profitable fibre through the air Network for superfast connectivity
• Create an offering for an affordable
superfast wifi to make Sheffield a smart
city by giving all access to information
and technology.
• Deliver a profitable gigabit network in
and around city without closing down
streets and digging up roads and
pavements.
• Utilize the license-exempt 60GHz band
to provide backhaul connectivity to
Ruckus AP’s
• Backhaul with Siklu’s EtherHaul and
manage whole network with EMS
• Accessible superfast connectivity for all
of Sheffield residents.
• Interference-free service
• Positive ROI within months, due to
commercial opportunities around
analyzing footfall data and
advertisement.
The project delivers superfast internet, at 20 gigabits per
second (Gbps), to 293 streets in the city and up to 24,000
users can connect simultaneously. The network is free, and at
no cost users or to the council who provided exclusive access
to street furniture and buildings to install the network.

Highways England Leverages Interference-Free Millimetre-Wave 70GHz
Gigabit Wireless by Siklu to deliver mission critical CCTV connectivity
• In an ever-changing environment where
over 26 miles of utilities have been relocated
such as water, gas and broadband, how can
you deliver robust, mission critical
connectivity to inter-connect safety cameras
along a 20 mile stretch of road? For
continued safety of those working at the
roadside, CCTV was to be installed at
intervals of between 300m and 1.5km’s
• Exploring wireless frequencies available for
transmission led Highways England to the
70GHz E-band at which Siklu EH-710TX radio
operates. The E-band (70/80GHz) offers over
10GHz of available spectrum to ensure high
capacity interference resistant connectivity.
The main advantage of millimetre-wave
radios is its ability to provide low latency,
which is ideal for video transmission and
interference-free transmission.
• Over 20 cameras were deployed to cover this
stretch of road. It consisted of 20x small form
factor Siklu EH-710TX radios with inbuilt
Gigabit Ethernet switches which are powered
by a combination of hydrogen, solar and
wind. The EH-710TX was chosen as a result
of it’s Gigabit capabilities, sub-millisecond
latency, interference immunity properties
and true fibre-like performance.
• Project: £1.4B-£1.8B upgrade to the A14 between Ellington, west
of Huntingdon, to the Milton junction on the Cambridge Northern
Bypass. Includes widening the A1 between Brampton and
Alconbury. The upgrade will relieve traffic congestion, unlock local
economic growth, enhance national economic growth, connect
communities, improve the environment and improve safety by
reducing driver stress.

Love Island Multi Site Connectivity
• All of the camera and production facilities
were located at the villa, while the edit and
production facilities were located 3km away.
• Physical trenching of hardwire fibre would
take too much time meaning filming would
be delayed.
• Needed a reliable Low latency solution for
seamless transmission.
• Utilise Siklu’s 70/80GHz 1200FX to provide a
reliable ‘fibre through the air’ gigabit
connectivity.
• By utilising Siklu’s state of the art wireless
connectivity Love Island was successfully
filmed on time read for another drama filled
series.
• Off the back of using mmWave for
connectivity, this has opened up a whole
range of new locations for ITV to film at
moving forward.
• The production of ITV Studio's popular reality TV show
“Love Island” is no small feat considering it utilizes two
locations separated by 3 km (roughly 2 miles) on the island
of Majorca, Spain. Typically each year the production
location changes, requiring the need for flexible
connectivity

Fibre Through the Air Technology Connects UK
Military Base
• This particular project required wifi for media
delivery - with limited internet access
present, took place at a military base in
Afghanistan where, at any one time, there
could be up to 400 serving military and staff
at the camp - a multinational UK led team, all
requiring communications and reliable,
uninterrupted Wi-Fi. This represented a
significant challenge in such a remote
location, where security was also a critical
factor.
• By introducing best-of-breed technology
recommended by Purdicom, BFBS Media
Innovation was able to make use of the Siklu
backbone Gigabit speeds. This was achieved
in conjunction with the Ruckus access points,
providing outdoor and indoor connection,
which completed the end-to-end solution.
• The project solution was enabled using two x
Siklu MultiHaul PTMP Base units and eight x
Siklu Terminal units, Ruckus T310 outdoor
AP’s, and R510 Wave 2 AP’s. The whole
project was completed in just one month and
connected the camp to MiPlayer, allowing
the military serving in the camp to access the
best of UK TV, premier sport and a range of
other media services.
• BFBS Media Innovation is part of BFBS, which provides
broadcast and media services to the UK Armed Services
worldwide. BFBS is a charity, committed to providing the
UK military with a welcome part of ordinary life in
extraordinary situations. Entertainment, news, sport and
information services build morale by connecting those
serving overseas to life back home - offering them a way
to feel happier, know what’s going on in the world, share
experiences and build communities.
