The Elizabethan Era
The Elizabethan Era, which was named after Queen Elizabeth I, is often referred to as the
Golden Age of England. It was a time of great change for England. It was a time of new ideas
and new ways of thinking. William Shakespeare played an enormous role in the Elizabethan
theatre; his unique writing style in The Taming of The Shrew influenced modern day literature.
Queen Elizabeth played a huge role in the Elizabethan era ( Queen ). The reign of Queen
Elizabeth I is referred to as The Golden Age ( Queen ). Elizabeth was the daughter of King
Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn ( Queen ). She was born on September seventh
1533 ( Queen ). During childhood it was clear that Elizabeth was gifted with knowledge, she
spoke five fluent languages ( Queen ). Life continued on with more complications but on
November seventeenth 1558 Elizabeth took the throne of England ( Queen ). Queen Elizabeth
enjoyed watching playwrights. Watching plays was one of her many hobbies and she impacted
plays heavily because she was a huge supporter. Social class was also greatly impacted during
the Elizabethan time period. Commoners were the poor people who had to have the no high
paying jobs, these commoners are the lowest of the social class. Noble people were the higher
class or also called the wealthy these people were the people who had high paying jobs. One huge
factor in this era was the reoccurring Black Plague. The Black Plague caused many deaths. This

Argumentative Essay On Same Sex Violence
According to news.northwestern.edu, domestic violence occurs at least as frequently, and
likely even more so, between same sex couples compared to opposite sex couples. However, why
is this issue understudy? Why is the print media or digital media not showing or focusing on this
issue as much as hetersexual couples? As a country we have come a long way, since Obama
have passed the same sex marriage law, the LGBTQ commmunity has gone upwards as an
American citizens. On the other hand, the criminal justice system seems put the LGBTQ
community backwards instead of forward. There is huge amount of same sex violence in
between intimate partner. Some are underreported by the police department, and some same sex
couples do not report the abuse at all. It sad to see this discrimination and the lack of importance
in these issue played out in America. Unfortunately, if this issue continues in a cycle, it may
results in heinous crimes that we may or may not see in the news, It will just be another statistics

violence in same sex couple that explained why they are excluded. For, one it is gendered roles,
Gendered roles has played a huge part in same sex violence. The different circumstances and labels

perspectives instead of putting them together as one. Studies report show that between two

The Game Hex Was Invented By The Danish Mathematician Piet
The game Hex was invented by the Danish mathematician Piet Hein in the 1940s. This game has
been of great interest to mathematicians around the world since its introduction, including
Martin Gardner who explores it in chapter eight of his first Scientific American Book of
Mathematical Puzzles and Games (1959). The game is normally played on a board of 11x11
hexagons with two edges labelled black and the other two labelled white. It is a two person game
in which both players (using black and white counters) attempt to create a chain connecting both of
their respective sides of the board. This chapter will stray away from the basics of Hexand instead
explore a more specific aspect of the game: ladders. Topics to be discussed include general... Show

This knowledge will hopefully allow the player to place ladder escapes (discussed later in the
chapter), which will more often than not result in winning positions for the attacking player. The
most common ladder formation, the bottleneck, is one that all players should familiarize
themselves with. This occurs when there is a gap in between two defensive counters, and the
attacking player must place a counter in that gap, which ultimately forces a ladder like the one
depicted in figure one on the left. At this point, it would be wise to place an escape in the third
row, to the left of where the ladder is about to form. The reasoning behind this is that the
defending player now has to deal with a ladder escape and a possible connection to counters at
the top of the board in C2, D3, and E4. All things considered, an ideal placement for the ladder
escape would be C9. Figure two shows the placement of the red counter on C9 and the computer
s response in A10. Can you now determine a placement that would secure a win for the red
player?Ladder escapes, as hinted to in the previous two paragraphs, are of vital importance with
regards to ladders and the successful formation of a connection to the edge. Without the use of
them, ladders would continue to extend until reaching an edge and ultimately a victory for the
player on the defensive side of the ladder. Similarly to ladders themselves, ladder escape counters

Gay Marriage Should Not Be Allowed Anywhere On This Earth.
Gay Marriage should not be allowed anywhere on this Earth. Charles Colson, a contributing editor
of the Christianity Today magazine and a radio commentator, was against gay marriage in his
article, he wrote Gay Marriage : Societal Suicide. Many people can flood both sides of this
argument, but are mainly against gay marriages. Gay marriageis a sin, violates the natural law,
children should be raised by a mother and father, and the rights should not be equal if they
choose to disobey God. However, Katha Pollitt a poet and essayist, is all for gay marriage in her

Gay marriage ignores the offspring s best interests. It really offends God in a lot of ways that
there are people in our world like this. People will use the excuse of everybody sins, but I know
that this issue is one of the major sins that you should not cross, no matter the circumstances.
God created men and women to be fertile and multiply. He created us to raise the children

nothing wrong with it. She does not believe that homosexuals threaten the institution. In the
article on page 461, Pollitt states, Gay marriage is not about sex, it is about separation of church
and state. She strongly believes that gay marriage creates happiness. Pollitt is not a fan of
marriage because she rather love freely, but she agrees that gay marriage should get the same
type of treatment like an ordinary marriage between a man and woman. She sees marriage as an
easy way to receive money. Some people look at it as loving one person and growing family.

Invasion Of Privacy In The United States
While I trust the government and support their policies, you, the federal government, have failed us
Americans. When attempting to gain information for an investigation, nearly 22.1 million innocent
Americans have been exposed to the public with their personal information hanging by a thread,
according to the Washington Post. You politicians may assume that justice is served by providing
victims with incentives of extra security technology, but the federal government should not be
allowed to gain information from personal devices for their investigation. Furthermore, the use of
malware to hack these innocent Americans is an invasion of privacy, ruins devices and their data,
ensues lawsuits and their costs with unnecessary breaches, and may even put people s lives at risk.
Privacy is a right, not a privilege. The federal government s requirement to gain information
needed for investigations violates the right of privacy every American is entitled to. Consequently,

Recently, the FBI has asked Apple to create a backdoor into IPhones, allowing the government and

has become such a popular issue is because of the aftermath of the San Bernardino attack. One of
the attackers, Syed Farook, had an IPhonethat is believed to have been used to communicate with
other ISIS members. The FBI has been unable to open the phone, and is now asking Apple for a
backdoor into the phone, which Apple promptly declined. If a backdoor is generated for all

Investigating The Mechanism Of Decomposition, Reaction...
Abstract:
Thermal analysis data is used to determine the mechanism of decomposition, reaction energetics,
and gas evolution of a material, specifically calcium silicate, also called limestone. Based on the
basic rules of thermodynamics, a hypothesis can be formed that, as limestone is heated, it
decomposes into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide due to heat transfer and the creation of
impurities. The addition of silicon oxide, or quartz, can also cause limestone to decompose in the
same manner. This was tested using experiments including Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA),
Mass Spectrometry (MS), and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). Figures 1 3 confirm this
hypothesis through extensive logging of data. Future work can include data ... Show more content

Unlike pressure, temperature is a simple variable to alter. This is why it is preferred when
analyzing controlled reaction rates, such as heat transfer. An increase in temperature causes certain
materials, commonly salts, to decompose, controlling the free energy that is released. Salts, which
are unstable at high temperatures, are ideal subjects for thermal analysis. For example, when
CaCO3 decomposes into CaO and CO2, the nucleation of CaO causes a decrease in temperature
[that] represents the endothermic heat absorbed by the reaction. The decomposition of a material is
affected by various factors, such as the pressure exerted on the material while it is heated, the
amount of time the material is exposed to heat, and the rate of heat transfer. (Kingery).
On a macroscopic level, as limestone is heated, it will darken in color as it separates into
calcium oxide and carbon dioxide. As it decomposes, calcium oxide will be formed into a solid
and carbon dioxide will be released as a gas. The calcined powder will retain its darker color, but
would otherwise look similar to the initial limestone. Decomposition is a reaction to the impurities
caused by the heating of the material. (Thermogravimetric).
Experimental Methods:
After collecting samples and placing the calcium silicate, limestone, into each machine for the
duration of time needed to collect 230 data points, testing is completed. While in the

According to me the main reason is when they came into existence they didn t have any
competitors all they need to do is manufacturing and selling of the car. As I have stated earlier
before 80s Indian automobile market was seller s market which means manufacturing companies
have the command on the market not the customers. Having customer s command on the market is
essential otherwise the development stops. The same thing happened, ambassador remains the
same car as it was when it was first introduced. Hindustan Motors didn t promote the car because
as a single Indian car it was already famous. Distribution was not that much difficult because car
owners were few. The price of the ambassador was relatively high because those who needed the car
didn t have another option. Also the government rules on importing the components were harsh and
company was paying high prices for them. It seems obvious what the company did during those
years. But when the scenario changed during 90s the market became open to all the government
rules became soft and lots of other car manufacturers jumped into the Indian automobile market.
This was the time when the ambassador should have changed its strategies. However they didn t
make considerable changes on the other side new companies like Maruti Suzuki got the nerve of an
Indian customer and introduced cheapest car in the market. Due to this drastic change once giant
Hindustan Motors has become a company in loss with one of its most successful car an ambassador

Well-Behaved Women Rarely Make History Analysis
History has always been heavily dominated by men, and for women to earn a spot in history means
that they would need to do something extraordinary. In Well Behaved Women Seldom Make
History, by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, she points out several famous women in history that fit the
mold of extraordinary. Through discussing Mae West, Rosa Parks, and Martha Ballard, Ulrich
makes the claim that women rarely make history unless they have broken away from the norms of
their society. By explaining the individual historical cases and her own opinion, accompanied by
visual representations of her view, Ulrich argues how history dictates who gets a spot in history

Ulrich talks about herself and how one quote basically made her famous. The title Well Behaved
Women Seldom Make History, has become a well known slogan and has been used on several
bumper stickers, mugs, T shirts, and more. At the end of her essay, Ulrich concludes, Some
history making is intentional; much of it is accidental (Ulrich 665). This statement reflects how
Ulrich gained her popularity, which was completely accidental. Having a quote plastered
everywhere is not something that was planned, it just happened. Therefore, Ulrich is basically
saying that her part in history was an accident. Not only this, but Ulrich also makes a point at the
very end of her essay by including a quote from Gerda Lerner that discusses how our lives are
like stories. Ulrich adds, But if no one cares about these stories, they do not survive. People do
not make history by living their lives, but by creating records and by turning other people s lives
into books or slogans (Ulrich 665). Basically, not everything one person does will be seen as
intriguing, only those who have captivating life experiences will go down in history. Altogether,
the use of self reference in her essay helps provide insight to her overall main point and assists the

The Christian Doctrine Of The Trinity
Outline the development of the Christian doctrine of the Trinity from the New Testament Church to
the Nicene Creed.
I will like to crave your indulgence to the fact that Nicene concept of Trinity is never stated in the
Bible, and it is that early Christians as well as the scriptures clearly points out the fact that Jesus
was fully divine and pre existent. For the fact that, none of the early Christian theologians fully
asserted the doctrine of the Trinity, not even a speculation about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
According to the father of the paganism description of Trinity God can in no way be described.
(Schindler 148).
In the 4th century there are different schools of thought that were developed in Antioch, were
they try to literarily interpret the Scriptures with a great deal of emphasis on the historical
context of Trinity. Arius who is also known as Nicene, came up with the Nicene Creed by
arguing the fact that Jesus was not God, and the Father by itself is true God. Base on the fact that
God created Jesus, Arius was able to support his argument with the books of (Proverbs 8:22 and
John 14:28) the Father is greater than I as a proof.
On the other hand, a number of philosophy was able to argue that Christ was homoousios (same or
one substance) in a way to debunk Nicene Creed by describing the relationship that exist between
the father and Son, by stating the fact that Jesus is God that come to earth as a man which is also
the Father. Arius believes that it

The Four Idols That Distort The Truth
The Four Idols that Distort the Truth in the Darkness
In discussions of our susceptibility of delusions and false beliefs, Plato argues that humans can
choose whether they want to follow the false beliefs in the darkness, or go into the light by facing
all aspects of reality with honesty. Bacon s argue is similar to Plato s and Bacon combines the four
mistakes of human nature into four different idols. Idol of the tribe, cave, marketplace, and theater.
Although Plato and Bacon claim that we are susceptible to delusions and false beliefs, I claim that
the truth is distorted by human understanding and people are teaching the distorted truth to other
people, so people become blinded when they go from the darkness, the bad, to the light, or the good.
Bacon explains what Idols of the Cave are, and how they lead to a distortion of the truth. The Idols
of the Cave are the idols of the individual man. For everyone (besides the errors common to
human nature in general) has a cave or den of his own, which refracts and discolors the light of
nature (Bacon 131). Here, Bacon describes that every person has their own ВЁcave which
represents the fault of people. The cave distorts the truth and reality, and this is how false facts
come to be. Because everyone has their own cave, one truth is distorted differently by every single
person until the truth is completely nonexistent. The human mind distorts the truth even more
because person has a different perception on the world. For example,

unethical. E.g. if parking lot is full it is not considered to be unethical behavior of the business it
will be when business had misleading promises that convenient parking lot will always be

Immanuel Kant On Enlightenment
In 1784, Immanuel Kant states that Enlightenment is the human being s emergence from his self
incurred minority and the courage to utilize your own discernment.
Minority is inability to make habit of one s own understanding without guidance from another. This
minority is self incurred when its cause lies not in lack of reason but in lack of resolve and courage
to utilize it without guidance from another. Have courage to build habit of your own intellect! Is
therefore the motto of enlightenment. Kant draws a very profound argument by saying that
enlightenment may only be made through a proactive personal exploration of one s own opinions
away from the confines of social dogma.
According to Immanuel Kant, enlightenment is when a person arises

Overwhelming Thoughts And Circumstances Can Suck That Life
Overwhelming thoughts and circumstances can suck that life out of a person. Through a slow but

when I observe a buildup of someone neglecting to pursue their priorities, I can vent out in anger at

From my test score regarding anger, I found out that I have a naturally moderate level of anger.
People can experience extreme bouts of agitation in ways involving delays, lack of resources,

not pick up after themselves, bitterness towards them can increase within me. Moreover, due to my
somewhat bossy personality, my siblings consider me the mother in my household. Thus, when I
acknowledge someone s laziness in their responsibilities, typically, I ask the slacker to do her job

Next, I angrily communicate the sibling s downfall considering the assumption I have of her,
and I tell her how she must fix the problem. Without asking why she did not do her job, I

Explain Aquinas Cosmological Argument
Explain Aquinas Cosmological Argument
The basis of the cosmological argument is that the universe cannot account for its own existence.
There must be a reason, the argument says, for the existence of the universe and the reason has to
be something which is not part of the physical world of time and space. The cosmological argument
was used by Thomas Aquinas (1225 74) in his five ways, which were ways of demonstrating the
existence of God through inductive argument based on observation and evidence.
In Aquinas view, knowledge of God could be reached in two ways; one through revelation for
example, through the words of the Bible and the other is through our own human reason. Aquinas

Moving Human Resources into an Employee Empowerment Culture
Situation Moving Human Resources into an Employee Empowerment Culture
Issue Employees are no longer content to work in an environment of adversity and autocracy.
Instead, the decade long tradition of the Human Rights Movement for more than one generation lets
individuals know that empowerment, change, respect, and actualization are powerful tools that will
not only benefit employees, but increase productivity and profits for owners and managers. This
has been the case for Yammer, the San Francisco based company that makes social networking
software for businesses (Hoge, 2012).
Theory Empowerment theory is tied up in Total Quality Management and the new models of
Strategic Human Resource Management. Both TQM and SHRM move from simply the tactical to
the strategic, looking at long term results, development of employees, retention as a strategy, and
utilizing the human element as part of the overall business planning cycle (Wilkinson, 1998).
Results Empowerment theory allows the organization as a whole to participate in the planning and
execution process of the company. It allows non managerial staff members to take ownership, feel
part of a larger whole, and increase their own performance as well as that of their departments and
co workers. Using empowerment theory, absences decrease, job satisfaction increases, and almost
all stakeholders report a more positive working experience and environment (Employee
Empowerment, 2011).

Such an economic shift is identified as being a result of Awhite flight@, where the urban whites
fled to the suburbs after WWII, with the immigrants, blacks, and rural dwellers moving in. The
economy switched from an industrial economy to a post industrial or service economy, with the
older factories being replaced by smaller factories (computers, airplanes, appliances), requiring
higher skilled workers. In effect these new factories were located outside the city in the suburbs.
The central city would be left with nothing, and virtually no opportunities of any magnitude.
Detroit is a city that I believe can be identified as the city which went through the greatest amount
of change, being heavily relied on one industry. During the first half of the twentieth century,
Detroit was probably the most economically booming city in the United States. Since about

posed is this: Why do we as Americans shoot and kill over 11,000 people on average each year?
What causes the Columbines? What causes innocent bystanders? Why don t other countries have
these problems, even ones with lots of guns, or a violent national history? What makes us so
insanely special?
Moore s savviest choice is to avoid placing blame for American gun violence on easy targets.
Indeed, he seems less interested in placing blame than in burrowing in to find the reasons behind
the problems, to peel back the curtain and take a long hard look at the wizard (In the film s climax,
Moore interviews NRA chieftain Chuck Heston. Heston was always a bold actor, and here he
bravely chooses to talk to Moore void of all logic, proving that utter cluelessness can serve evil just
as well as malice can.)
Columbine makes a cogent argument we don t so much have a gun culture as we have a fear
culture a fear both sensationalistic and racial in

forwards the username to a key distribution center (KDC). The KDC issues a ticket granting ticket

user s workstation. This is done infrequently, typically at user logon; the TGT expires at some

When the client wants to communicate with another node, then it needs to send the TGT to the

be registered at TGT with a Service Principal Name (SPN). The client uses the SPN to request

The Negative Effects Of Improper Waste Management
Red=subject to change She s sitting in a cold and dark room looking outside. If the world knew
about the consequences of their actions, she would have a different view. The impact of new
technology and lack of proper waste management has been drastic on our home planet, planet
Earth. Technology has been evolving greatly, and as technology has been evolving, another issue
has arisen, the lack of proper waste disposal. Improper waste disposal is when items which belong
in a certain area, are incorrectly being disposed of. For example, a plastic water bottle being
thrown out in the garbage instead of the recycling. Advancements in technology and improper
waste disposal both have harmful causes on the Earth, negatively impact humanhealth, and cause an
effect on the economy. For thousand s of years, humans have been working to evolve technology to
what it is today, but little do they realize the effects it has on our Earth. Most of these technological
advancements require fossil fuels, and thus these advancements reduce the amount of fossil fuels
we have left. This greatly endangers the Earth, as carbon dioxide is released into the air when the
fossil fuels are burned(1). This ultimately harms the environment. Technological advancements, like
industrialization, have contributed greatly to the surplus amount of greenhouse gases being
omitted(3 ). A study by a National Geographic researcher proves that as the technological
advancements made become greater, so do the negative

Theme Of Heroic Nature In Antigone
Sophocles portrayals Antigone s heroic nature through indirect characterization and her tragic flaw
by direct characterization. Foiling her against her sister Ismene, Antigone appears to be a fearless
and flinty heroine. Facing Creon s law, Antigone and Ismene presents two contrasting personalities.
Ismene refuses Antigones invitation to bury Polynices, and argues that she is not to be blamed: I m
forced, I have no choice I must obey/ the ones who stand in power (Sophocles78, 79). Ismene
chooses to be the coward in Antigone s words, escaping from her responsibility to bury her dead
brother to stay away from any trouble. On the other hand, Antigone insists in her decision: I will
bury him myself. /And even if I die in the act, that death... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the sentry, Antigone hovers over Polynices body like a bird come back to an empty
nest, /peering into its bed, and all the babies gone (Sophocles 472, 473). Comparing Antigone to a
mother bird, the description suggests that Antigone symbolizes a maternal figure and a force of
nature, in opposition to Creon s representation as the civic duty. The simile clarifies the conflict
between Antigone and Creon at a metaphorical level, and thus deepens the meaning of the play that
it is not only about the clashes between a king and a princess, but it further implies the collision
between the divine force and the state law. Utilizing simile, Sophocles indicates Antigone s

Space Noise And The Separation Of Noise Generated Within...
The major acoustical issues in public buildings are concerned with the exclusion of outdoor
noise and the separation of noise generated within the buildings. This chapter will consider
specific types of public buildings in which acoustic designs are a matter of importance, such as
schools, offices, libraries, recreational buildings, hospitals and government buildings. To obtain a
space free from the annoyance of noise and excessive reverberation, a few step one could take
would be as follows: planning the build with consideration of noise insulation so that rooms which
contain sources of considerable noise level are separated from rooms that are required to silent;
providing sufficient noise insulation for rooms where silence is need as well as implementing sound
absorption to reduces the reverberation and noise created by that room to a more acceptable level.
It is well to recognise that uncontrolled noise in public buildings will diminish their utility
Since the dawn of the twenty first century, public school have shown more attention to acoustical
problems in part due to the increased use of open planning, more informal teaching methods and an
increased use of audio visual aids. Classroom acoustics should neither be too high nor too low, but
rather a balance of reflective finishes to aid teaching and absorptive finish away from the front of
the classroom to avoid sound blurring cross reflections. The UK recommendation on the decibel

Rome, Caesar prevented the Helvetii from migrating across Gaul and then crushed Ariovistus, a
German chieftain, who was building his political power amid the Sequani, a rival tribe to the
Aedui. From there, Caesar extended Roman arms north with military successes over the Belgi (57

Pros And Cons Of A Representative Democracy
Stauffenberg, Griffin
Analytical Paper #1 Take it all the way back to when the constitution was being written. The
founding fathers had a big choice to make; did they establish a direct democracy or a
representative democracy? They had to weigh the pros and cons of each and they ended up
deciding on a representative democracy. In this paper I will tell you why they made things the way
they did and certain compromises they made along the way. Some of the major features in a
direct democracy are that the people get to directly elect things such as the president or for laws to
be passed or not. The big advantages of a direct democracy are that voting takes much less time as
it is just a vote among all the citizens, people see the the changes they voted for take effect faster,
and people feel like their vote is valued and powerful. The downsides to a direct democracy are
that sometimes the popular vote isn t always the right vote and people realize that after it s too late
to change what they did. Around the time of the American Revolution the majority of people were
considered, too uneducated to govern themselves (Schmidt, et al, 5). When our constitution was
being written many of the founding fathers did not believe that the common people were ready to
govern themselves, so they set up a representative democracy instead of a direct democracy. James
Madison thought that if we did implement a direct democracy it would, deteriorate into mob rule
(Schmidt,et al, 5). A major

The Christian Worldview Of The Holy Bible
The term worldview refers to an accumulation of core beliefs, which influence the understanding
man has of the world. Because a worldview refers to individual beliefs, everyone s worldview is
different. The Christian worldview is based off of the Holy Bible, and because of that, God shapes
the way Christians understand the world around them. However, the Bibleis not the only influence
that Christians are exposed to, and they must constantly monitor their worldview to be certain that
it does not stray from the truth in Gods Word. If Christians are able to identify some key beliefs
that are in the Bible, it can make the task of monitoring their worldview easier. The beginning of

A recurring idea called Gnostism is an example of flawed theology which can be exposed by the
Creation story. The Gnostics claimed that the one true God is too high and pure to be
contaminated by our lower, physical reality. . . Thus, when Gnostics read the Old Testament, they
concluded that the God presented there must be an inferior god. (Wittmer) The story of Creation
reminds Christians of how the world should be, well and good, and can help to paint a clearer
picture of what the restored earth will be like. The Gnostic ideas are valid only if God created an
imperfect world. Christians know, because of the Creation story, that God created a perfect world.
Christianity, like its parent faith, Judaism, embraced what he [N. T. Wright] and others called
creational monotheism. They affirmed the goodness of creation and of God s continual activity
within creation. Thus, for them, salvation was not a matter of being delivered from the material
world to a state of disembodied bliss, but instead, a restoration of God s intended order for the
creation. (Stonestreet. 2014) Thus, the claim that an inferior god made a tainted creation is false,
because the Creation was perfect, and God is the highest being. Because of the Creation story,
Christians can recognize Gnostic ideas as flawed theology, affirming the story of Creation as a
fundamental base for the Christian

Syria And The Greater Fertile Crescent
1.Syria and the greater Fertile Crescent are often thought of as the birth of agricultural societies,
some 12,00 years ago. Recently, however, this area has experience the worst 3 year drought on
record. The drought conditions exacerbated existing political, water and agricultural insecurity and
caused mass agricultural failure, livestock mortality, massive rural to urban human migrations.
Kelley et al set out to understand how these effects were the product of vulnerability and hazard
severity by analyzing Syrias liability to drought and the social impacts of the recent droughts
leading to the onset of the Syrian civil war. The Kelley team completed their analysis through
observations and climatemodels in order to assess how unusual the drought was within the observed
records and the reasons why it was so severe.
Kelley et al believe that the socio economic severity of the drought was due to a variety of factors,
however, there were ___ main factors that exacerbated one another. One such factor that ignited the
following sequence of events was the Syrians governments agricultural policy of increasing
agricultural production to assist rural constituents. The increase in unsustainable agricultural
production led to a rapid decline of groundwater in which farms without access to irrigation canals
linked to river tributaries, pumped groundwater supplies roughly 60% of all water used for
irrigation purposes. Thus when a severe drought began in 2006/2007, the agricultural

The Tower Of The Ancient City Jericho
Staircase, stairwell, stairway or, commonly, simplified to just stairs; defined as construction
designed to bridge a large vertical distance by dividing it into smaller vertical distances otherwise
known as steps. One of the oldest structures in architectural history, there is no definitive answer
of when the first set of stairs was created. However some historians have made claim that some
of the oldest surviving staircase s are found in the ruins of the ancient city Jericho, suggesting
that the birth of stairs may have been as early as 7,000 years ago. Stairs have throughout the
history of humanity played an integral role in civilisation, and continue to do so today. Some of
the first examples of the most basic stairs were not created on purpose, but instead were rocks
used to climb worn down by years of heavy traffic, or foot holes carved into terrain to make an
ascent easier. Wood trunks were cut or fitted together to make levels but were not used in
buildings. Instead they were used to overcome the difficulties of the harsh landscape of the
mountains and valleys, and were utilised as necessary survival tool. The mountains and valleys
were dangers, and the less time the people of the age spent struggling in the harsh conditions the
safer they would be. In the beginning we needed stairs to simply survive in our environment, but in
time their purpose has evolved into how we in the modern age use them today. They are a necessity

The Digital Film Making Industry Essays
The Digital Film Making Industry
Digital filmmaking is quickly changing everything about filmmaking. Everyone from professionals
to amateurs are currently seeing great advancements in many aspects of the industry.
Every year thousands of independent films are made. The vast majority of these films are
created using digital cameras and basic home computers. A few years ago this was impossible
due the sheer cost of quality 35 millimeter cameras, and extremely expensive editing equipment.
Now anyone can make a relatively high quality digital film with a 1000 dollar camera and a 2000

Independent filmmakers are not just using the internet to distribute their movies but also selling
these digital movies to film studios. Miguel Arteta s Chuck and Buck was completed for about
500,000 dollars using a completely digital process. If they would have used standard 35
millimeter film it would have cost them 1.4 million dollars to shoot. They sold the movie for 1.1

Currently about 99% of all major movies are shot are done so using standard 35 millimeter film.
The film is then scanned into a computer, edited and then put back on to 35 millimeter film. Each

practical, and with today s technology hard to differentiate form analog film. Some movie studios
and directors have already switched completely to digital. Digital cameras have progressed
enough that their image quality is close to the traditional format. Spike Lee shot both of his 2000
films, Bamboozled and The Original Kings of Comedy using Sony digital cameras. These cameras
are relatively cheap and are affordable enough for the many people to own.

How Did Geography Affect Where Colonists Settled Essay
Beginning in 1607, when ambitious English colonists settled in Jamestown, and continuing until
the last of the thirteen colonies was established; geography was a substantial factor in the
development of colonial America. The crops that essentially saved the colonists lives, such as
tobacco, rice, and indigo, wouldn t have grown without a certain type and amount of soil to grow
properly. Also, the Appalachian Mountains and the dense forests provided a barrier for the
colonists, preventing them from going too far west right away, and causing the colonies to form in
the arrangement they did. Finally, the population was the most dense in middle colonies, such as
New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania partly because of the mild... Show more

This, in turn, made it so that the population were more dense, and there was a higher
concentration of people. The dense forests of the eastern seaboard disallowed for large cities to
be created right away. This geological factor forced colonists to spread out within the perimeters
of the Appalachian Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, without being too close together. Both of
these factors could be overlooked easily enough, but did have a reasonable impact of the
development of colonial America. Finally, the geography of the middle colonies, such as New
York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania played a big role on the development and
population of this area. In the sixteen and seventeen hundreds, the above colonies were the most
populated of the thirteen establishments. There was plentiful and fertile soil, in which tobacco
was heavily grown. The Susquehanna River also flowed through this region, opening the
possibility of fur trade. Other minor rivers that were found in the middle colonies were gentle,
which provided for easy transportation and fishing. The land in the middle colonies was broad
and expansive, making it easy for even the middle class residents to create an enjoyable and
profitable lifestyle. In conclusion, there were many factors that contributed to the development of
the colonial America, but geography was clearly a sizable influence. If the geography of America

The Films I Know Where I m Going
The films I Know Where I m Going (1945) and Separate Lie ( 2005).
Introduction
The passage of time often results in change. In effect, it would be safe to assume that change
over prolonged periods denotes progress from one point to another. In the case of film
production, there is a stark difference between films produced as early as the 1950s and those
produced following the turn of the 21st century. This change can be thematic or evident from the
nature of production, which is important in describing the degree of variance between the old
and the new. This is the case of the analysis of the films I Know Where I m Going (1945) and
Separate Lie (2005), which are British films set more than 50 years apart. Both of these films
belong in the romance genre and are likely to possess both similarities and differences in their
depiction of the social attitudes and issues of the times in which they were produced. Such may
include disparities and congruencies in their representation of the then current events on subjects
such as love, sex, class, and race among other societal issues. This paper compares and contrasts
the films I Know Where I m Going (1945) and Separate Lie (2005) with respect to themes and
characterization . The films also indicates about British society and social attitudes in the period in
which it was produced. This includes the depiction of social issues, investigation of British history,
reflection on the political climate, and representation of current events.

Causes Of The Arab Malaise
4. Samir Kassir describes Arabs perpetual sense of malaise, or despair, and argues that it is
possible for the Arab states to become secular democracies and adopt the principles of equality
and justice. This is characterized by, chronic rates of illiteracy, inordinate disparities between rich
and poor, overpopulation of cities and desertification of land . Some of the causes of the Arab
Malaise is the gaze of the western other, feelings of being left behind, sense of powerlessness and
geography.
The gaze of the western other, is a condescending gaze that reaffirms the inferiority of Muslim
societies, preventing everything even escape and inability to overcome insurmountable condition,
(Kassir). Further, Arab Malaise is worsened by the fact that Arab societies used to be comparable
to East Asian, Latin American and Sub Saharan African states. However, to Arabs, that is no
longer the case with all states except for the Arab societies moving toward democratic and
technologically advanced societies. The third cause of Arab Malaise is the sense of powerless to
act and affirm existence in face of other s domination that Arabs feel. This sense of powerlessness
was reinforced by Iraq US intervention where Arab community was unable to fight against
American intervention. Also, when Israel was established in Palestinian territory, the Palestinians
could not fight back because of the strong American unfailing support of Israel, making Israel
capable of literally do anything it wants, (Kassir, 8). Geography was also an important factor in
creating malaise. The Arab world is situated between two continents and has its own sense of
tradition, and identity, however, Arabs are constantly reminded of colonial powers and presence
on their territory today through the presence of Israel. The defeat against Israel in 1948 (Nakba)
was a great humiliation and blow to the Arabs because it signified that colonial rule was to be
perpetually present in the Arab World for centuries to come. Finally, the existence of oil in the
region is a source of instability and malaise. The oil attracts western powers and increasing West
involvements leading the new hegemony of the United States in the Middle East (Kassir, 76).

My Experience With Writing Class
Writing is always something that I needed to spend a little more time at. I was much better
answering math problems than I was writing a paper or explaining a book I just read. In my
college writing class I felt that I was always given a challenge. The book The Book Thief that I
read was quite lengthy and had a lot of symbolism in it that took me a while to completely
understand. The papers that I had to do in my college writingclass were also a lot more challenging
than the ones I had to do in other classes. A song that I would use to explain my experience with
writing and college writing class is The Climb by Miley Cyrus. I would use Miley Cyrus s song to
explain my experience with writing and my college writing class because there is always going
to ways to improve myself as a writer. When I do any assignment in my college writing class I
am always taking a chance with it. Writing can be taking in so many different ways and there is
not real right answer, most is just personal preference. It is also a process that can be quite
lengthy; it is not just a simple one step process. It requires a lot of editing and having others give
feedback about it.
2. If I were going to teach UWRT 1102 I would emphasize on composing processes. As a student
myself, I know that editing a paper is not something we enjoy to do. I, myself often just write a
paper once and just submit it. I think students should learn that writing is not just a one step
process. Writing is a never ending

What Is The Difference Between Arx And Engel s Theory Of...
arx and Engels believed that the system at work of labor in society created a general alienation
of people from consciousness of their species being ; consciousness of being human. Within this
theory of human alienation, Marx and Engels provide three components from which people are
generally estranged from: the objects of labor, from nature, and from the labor itself. Plato, in
contrast, believed that human alienation lived on the basis of specialization, efficiency, and lack
of education. That people, in Socrates Kallipolis, were generally alienated from the Form of the
Truth and Ideas. He derails from Marx and Engels in the sense that Plato never believed in an
inevitable Communist Revolution, but in a possible political revolution, needed in order to
maintain moderation and avoid the clash of ideas in society. Where Marx and Engels believe in
communismfor the good of economy, Socrates believed in communism for the good of the
government and his Republic.
Marx and Engels believed that the economy during the Industrial Revolution created a mechanical
system in which people came to be alienated from the reality of being a human being. They argue
that because society is putting in all of its effort to compete with each other so that production
becomes a competition, people lose their sense of living, the sense of themselve, their species being.
In the Communist Manifesto, they argue, The bourgeoisie cannot exist without constantly
revolutionising the instruments of

The Importance Of Violence In Schools
When it comes to violence in schools, it s nothing new. Every day, the news media covers a story
over violence happening in school. My views over violence in school is there needs to be better
protection. The safety in schools is important because the kids in school is our future. They are our
future engineers, doctors, lawyers, etc., and if they don t have the protection they need, the kids in
schoolcan t learn. A couple suggestions to make the schools safer are practice the A.L.I.C.E. more
than once, go over what to do when an intruder is in the building, and how to protect themselves
and the people around them.
A way for the schools to be safer is to practice the A.L.I.C.E. A.L.I.C.E. stands for Alert,
Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate (Eells). It s effective to practice it because the kids
and teachers have a chance to practice how to protect themselves during a real life events. School
intruder situations can last anywhere between five to seven minutes (Eells). When the school is
alerted that they are on lockdown, teachers are advised to use plain and simple language. They
are advised to use plain and simple language because it won t confuse the children and they can
escape quicker. If the class can t escape through the windows or through the doors, the school urges
them to barricade and lockdown the classroom. Barricading the classroom may include moving file
cabinets to the door, shoving desks against the door also, and covering all windows. After lockdown,

Sebastiao Salgado s Photography

clients. But Sebastiao Salgado is a photographer who uses his talents as an artist to bring light to
subjects that are often overlooked in an effort to help raise awareness. He works hard to capture the
right imageto show the viewers exactly what message he is trying to convey. Sebastiao Salgado s

Photography, perhaps the most versatile of cultural media and so universally accessible, is
perhaps the most translatable of texts and hence the most prone to aestheticization (Nair). This
quote from the book about the photography of Sebastiao Salgado really captures exactly what he
was trying to do and how he uses photography to achieve that goal. By his work being displayed
in many galleries all over the world, and as a result, many people get to see them, those subjects
in the photos gain something from his work. Not only is his work on displays in galleries, his
work is all over the internet. Most of his work comes up when his name is searched into Google,
so it is available for virtually anyone to see. Having his work so visible for the world to see, he
is able to educate the world of the poverty, hardship, and turmoil that some countries and
communities face that normally they would not know about. Not only does his work reflect the
bad times some people in the world face, his work also shows the culture of other countries. They
reflect how others live our their daily lives and how it differs from those from first world countries.

Aquatic Experience In Pediatric Emergency Room
For children and adolescents, the experience in pediatric emergency waiting rooms can be
problematic. According to different age groups, there are a variety of psychosocial concerns and
developmental considerations that health professionals should be aware of in the pediatric unit.
The environment of the emergency room is busy and chaotic, which can increase the level of
anxiety and stress for the whole family. For infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school age children,
parentseparation is a common factor that makes them anxious (Brunnquell Kohen, 1991). In the
chaotic environment, children express their anxiety by crying, kicking or even regressive behaviors
such as stop walking. Thus, there should be more family couches for patients to

Twenty Years at Hull-House Essay
Twenty Years at Hull House
Two Works Cited Victoria Bissell Brown s introduction to Twenty Years at Hull House explains the
life of Jane Addams and her commitment to insight social change to problems that existed during
the turn of the 20th century. As a reaction to the hardships of a changing industrial society, Addams
decided to establish a settlement house in the West side of Chicago to help individuals who had
suffered from the cruelties of industrialization. Rejecting the philosophies that stemmed from the
Gilded Age, such as social Darwinism and the belief that human affairs were determined by natural
law, Addams was a progressive who wanted government to be more responsive to the people....

At the beginning of the chapter, the author raises questions that were prevalent a century ago and
that are still important today. The one question I found most interesting is, Can white, native born,
economically secure Americans ever really understand, much less help, those who are struggling to
survive? (1). Much of the prevalent political culture emphasized Aryan superiority, as well as the
concern a changing society would suffer from massive immigration. Even authors, such as
Charlotte Perkins Gilman, recognized the oppression she suffered from as a woman. However, she
did not recognize the oppression others suffered in her embracing of anti immigration as well as
racist beliefs. Reactionary to the massive immigration of this time, Charlotte Perkins Gilman also
supported eugenics to improve the human race. Yet Addams did not argue immigrants were inferior
to the Aryan people. In fact, three quarters of her residents at Hull House were first and second
generation immigrants. Not only was Addams sympathetic to the poor, but she also was
sympathetic to the plight of immigrants.
I find Jane Addams s commitment to social change extraordinary. To answer the question stated
previously, I would say, Yes, because Jane Addams was not under any pressure or obligation to
help the poor, especially at a time when the dominant belief was

Euripides Use Of Religion In Medea
When one thinks of ancient Greek society, the usual association that an average person makes is
with gods and mythology. It is accurate that gods and divine figures had quite a profound impact in
the lives of people at the time; they were the center of the belief system in ancient Greece with
followers calling out to them daily. During this time, Euripidesa philosopher and writer of tragedy
composed the controversial play Medea. This work delves deeper into understanding gods versus
what people expect of them. However after analyzing the work it seems as if Euripides is not only
questioning religion, but he is also expressing a message to the audience that correlates with his
stance on faith: Atheism. Stating it directly would be considered... Show more content on

Consider, Do you hear what she [Medea] says, how she cries out upon / Themis, goddess of
prayers, and Zeus (Euripides 168 169), where Medea calls upon the gods to witness her
suffering so that they can assist her against Jason for committing his sin to her. Despite her
appeal, they do not intervene and assist her. As stated in the last paragraph, it is as if gods do
not exist because they do not answer. This is affirmed by the quote, gods ... no longer rule
(Euripides 494). Speaking of gods, when looking at all the references to gods in the play, it is
evident that most instances go unanswered or unnoticed. However, this excludes the interaction
with Helios (the sun god whom gave Medea a crown, robe and the escape chariot). This can be
seen as an allusion to that there are no gods: out of all the times they are invoked, they seldom
answer the pleas. Under an analytical lens, this can be seen as a way of Euripides conveying the
idea that divine intervention is merely a coincidence that occurs once out of many pleas to the
gods, thus further supporting his pro Atheistic message. With the absence of the divine, Medea
takes initiative and performs what is necessary herself: I [Medea] must face / the deed (Euripides
1050 1051). This becomes an example to the audience that one does not require

Disadvantages Of Chain Drive Mechanism
2.1 Definition of chain drive mechanism
The basic rule of chain drive mechanism is to transmit power one shaft to another shaft at certain
center distance with the help of sprockets and chain links.
Chain drives maintain a positive speed ratio between driver and driven sprockets. The driver and
driven sprockets will rotate in the same direction on typical chain drives.
2.2 Definition of lever drive
Mechanism
The basic rule of the lever is a rigid bar resting on a pivot, used to move a heavy or firmly fixed
load with one end when pressure is applied to the other.

Stanley Milgram ( 1963 ) Essay
Stanley Milgram (1963) was interested in how likely people would obey an authority figure who
instructed them to harm another person. His study involved 40 male participants, aged 20 to 50,
who were recruited through advertisements and mail solicitation. Participants had diverse
occupations and educational levels. They came to a lab where they served as teachers in a
supposed learning and memory experiment. A simulated shock generator with 30 switches was
used. It was clearly marked with voltage levels and verbal designations ranging from 15 volts
(slight shock) to 450 volts (danger: severe shock). The participants task was to administer an
electric shock to the learner, a confederate of the experimenter, whenever he made an error in the
memory test, increasing the intensity of shock each time. When the participant refused to
administer a shock, the experimenter would give a series of prods to the participants to ensure that
they continue with the experiment, even if they reached the marked danger of a severe shock, or
heard the learner s screams and pounding from an adjacent room. The experiment ended when the
maximum voltage of shock had been delivered, or if the participant refused to continue any further.
The maximum intensity shock a participant was willing to administer before he refused to
participate any further was measured. The results showed that 26 out of 40 (65%) participants
obeyed the commands of the experimenter to the end, reaching the most potent shock

Public Policy Concerning Education During Prisons
Public policy concerning education in prisons decisively emphasizes punitive programming over
rehabilitate or educational programming. In regards to higher education in prisons the persuasive
public echo of why should criminals get for free what the rest of us pay for is a falsehood built on
the backs of these rulings. I would argue that the educationpaid for through incarceration entails a
greater personal cost of freedoms than a paid tuition could ever represent. I doubt anyone would
ever go to prisonto obtain a free education. The ever increasing costs of higher education invoke a
regime of scarcity that produces anxiety within the working and middle class. Higher education no
longer represents automatic future economic security, furthering social fear. I would argue against
the elimination of higher education in prisons; research shows that prison education reduces
recidivism rates and improves public safety (Chappell). Education behind bars means a greater
likelihood of post release employment. Post release employment means stability and independence.
Stability and independence mean a lower chance of recidivism. Criminal justice researchers Richard
Tewksbury and Kenneth Stengel conclude a more abstract benefit of prison education than just
reducing recidivism, Participation in educational programs yields a positive influence on the
psychological well being of inmates, reduces rule infractions, and enrolled inmates serve as role
models to other inmates

American Society And Ugandan Society
I stepped off the plane and the smell of burning trash immediately flooded my nostrils. The
pungent smell permeated the air. Driving in the absence of lane lines, crosswalks, or any sense of
organization made the eleven hour bus ride from the airport to my final destination all the more
calamitous and fearsome. However, the most shocking of all in this initial experience of a new
culture, was seeing vast amounts abandoned children. The biggest contrast between American
society and Ugandan society is the difference in the value of children. In America, parents
generally highly value their children and are willing to make sacrifices them. For children in Uganda
, the story is quite different; they are exploited, abused, and viewed as burdens. The adverse effects
of military occupation in Uganda can be traced back to the beginning of colonization. European
countries like Britain, Belgium, and France all rushed into Africaat the end of the 19th Century
trying to get their slice of Africa. Some nations were worse than others, but the two common
themes that tied African imperialism together were racism and exploitation. For decades, the
Ugandan people were under rulers that exploited them and treated them as if they could not be
trusted in society. The torn society of Uganda has been affected by years, even decades, of war
and militarized occupation. They face a corrupt government, broken economy, and execrable
poverty. Military occupation of land is a powerful tool

  • 3. Argumentative Essay On Same Sex Violence According to news.northwestern.edu, domestic violence occurs at least as frequently, and likely even more so, between same sex couples compared to opposite sex couples. However, why is this issue understudy? Why is the print media or digital media not showing or focusing on this issue as much as hetersexual couples? As a country we have come a long way, since Obama have passed the same sex marriage law, the LGBTQ commmunity has gone upwards as an American citizens. On the other hand, the criminal justice system seems put the LGBTQ community backwards instead of forward. There is huge amount of same sex violence in between intimate partner. Some are underreported by the police department, and some same sex couples do not report the abuse at all. It sad to see this discrimination and the lack of importance in these issue played out in America. Unfortunately, if this issue continues in a cycle, it may results in heinous crimes that we may or may not see in the news, It will just be another statistics in America eyes. There are different issues and circumstances when it becomes to intimate partner violence in same sex couple that explained why they are excluded. For, one it is gendered roles, Gendered roles has played a huge part in same sex violence. The different circumstances and labels between lesbian and gay couple are astoundingly. It helps to look at the real issue from both perspectives instead of putting them together as one. Studies report show that between two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Game Hex Was Invented By The Danish Mathematician Piet The game Hex was invented by the Danish mathematician Piet Hein in the 1940s. This game has been of great interest to mathematicians around the world since its introduction, including Martin Gardner who explores it in chapter eight of his first Scientific American Book of Mathematical Puzzles and Games (1959). The game is normally played on a board of 11x11 hexagons with two edges labelled black and the other two labelled white. It is a two person game in which both players (using black and white counters) attempt to create a chain connecting both of their respective sides of the board. This chapter will stray away from the basics of Hexand instead explore a more specific aspect of the game: ladders. Topics to be discussed include general... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This knowledge will hopefully allow the player to place ladder escapes (discussed later in the chapter), which will more often than not result in winning positions for the attacking player. The most common ladder formation, the bottleneck, is one that all players should familiarize themselves with. This occurs when there is a gap in between two defensive counters, and the attacking player must place a counter in that gap, which ultimately forces a ladder like the one depicted in figure one on the left. At this point, it would be wise to place an escape in the third row, to the left of where the ladder is about to form. The reasoning behind this is that the defending player now has to deal with a ladder escape and a possible connection to counters at the top of the board in C2, D3, and E4. All things considered, an ideal placement for the ladder escape would be C9. Figure two shows the placement of the red counter on C9 and the computer s response in A10. Can you now determine a placement that would secure a win for the red player?Ladder escapes, as hinted to in the previous two paragraphs, are of vital importance with regards to ladders and the successful formation of a connection to the edge. Without the use of them, ladders would continue to extend until reaching an edge and ultimately a victory for the player on the defensive side of the ladder. Similarly to ladders themselves, ladder escape counters ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Charles Colson, a contributing editor of the Christianity Today magazine and a radio commentator, was against gay marriage in his article, he wrote Gay Marriage : Societal Suicide. Many people can flood both sides of this argument, but are mainly against gay marriages. Gay marriageis a sin, violates the natural law, children should be raised by a mother and father, and the rights should not be equal if they choose to disobey God. People will use the excuse of everybody sins, but I know that this issue is one of the major sins that you should not cross, no matter the circumstances. God created men and women to be fertile and multiply. He created us to raise the children correctly and maybe become doctors. He did not create us to raise or have the same gender. She does not believe that homosexuals threaten the institution. In the article on page 461, Pollitt states, Gay marriage is not about sex, it is about separation of church and state. She strongly believes that gay marriage creates happiness. Pollitt is not a fan of marriage because she rather love freely, but she agrees that gay marriage should get the same type of treatment like an ordinary marriage between a man and woman. The main reason that this has become such a popular issue is because of the aftermath of the San Bernardino attack. One of the attackers, Syed Farook, had an IPhonethat is believed to have been used to communicate with other ISIS members. The FBI has been unable to open the phone, and is now asking Apple for a backdoor into the phone, which Apple promptly declined. • 9. Investigating The Mechanism Of Decomposition, Reaction... Abstract: Thermal analysis data is used to determine the mechanism of decomposition, reaction energetics, and gas evolution of a material, specifically calcium silicate, also called limestone. Based on the basic rules of thermodynamics, a hypothesis can be formed that, as limestone is heated, it decomposes into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide due to heat transfer and the creation of impurities. The addition of silicon oxide, or quartz, can also cause limestone to decompose in the same manner. This was tested using experiments including Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Mass Spectrometry (MS), and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). Figures 1 3 confirm this hypothesis through extensive logging of data. Future work can include data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike pressure, temperature is a simple variable to alter. This is why it is preferred when analyzing controlled reaction rates, such as heat transfer. An increase in temperature causes certain materials, commonly salts, to decompose, controlling the free energy that is released. Salts, which are unstable at high temperatures, are ideal subjects for thermal analysis. For example, when CaCO3 decomposes into CaO and CO2, the nucleation of CaO causes a decrease in temperature [that] represents the endothermic heat absorbed by the reaction. The decomposition of a material is affected by various factors, such as the pressure exerted on the material while it is heated, the amount of time the material is exposed to heat, and the rate of heat transfer. (Kingery). On a macroscopic level, as limestone is heated, it will darken in color as it separates into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide. As it decomposes, calcium oxide will be formed into a solid and carbon dioxide will be released as a gas. The calcined powder will retain its darker color, but would otherwise look similar to the initial limestone. Decomposition is a reaction to the impurities caused by the heating of the material. (Thermogravimetric). Experimental Methods: After collecting samples and placing the calcium silicate, limestone, into each machine for the duration of time needed to collect 230 data points, testing is completed. Having customer s command on the market is essential otherwise the development stops. The same thing happened, ambassador remains the same car as it was when it was first introduced. Hindustan Motors didn t promote the car because as a single Indian car it was already famous. Distribution was not that much difficult because car owners were few. The price of the ambassador was relatively high because those who needed the car didn t have another option. Also the government rules on importing the components were harsh and company was paying high prices for them. It seems obvious what the company did during those years. But when the scenario changed during 90s the market became open to all the government rules became soft and lots of other car manufacturers jumped into the Indian automobile market. This was the time when the ambassador should have changed its strategies. Well-Behaved Women Rarely Make History Analysis History has always been heavily dominated by men, and for women to earn a spot in history means that they would need to do something extraordinary. In Well Behaved Women Seldom Make History, by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, she points out several famous women in history that fit the mold of extraordinary. Through discussing Mae West, Rosa Parks, and Martha Ballard, Ulrich makes the claim that women rarely make history unless they have broken away from the norms of their society. At the end of her essay, Ulrich concludes, Some history making is intentional; much of it is accidental (Ulrich 665). This statement reflects how Ulrich gained her popularity, which was completely accidental. Having a quote plastered everywhere is not something that was planned, it just happened. Therefore, Ulrich is basically saying that her part in history was an accident. Not only this, but Ulrich also makes a point at the very end of her essay by including a quote from Gerda Lerner that discusses how our lives are like stories. Ulrich adds, But if no one cares about these stories, they do not survive. People do not make history by living their lives, but by creating records and by turning other people s lives into books or slogans (Ulrich 665). Basically, not everything one person does will be seen as intriguing, only those who have captivating life experiences will go down in history. • 13. The Christian Doctrine Of The Trinity Outline the development of the Christian doctrine of the Trinity from the New Testament Church to the Nicene Creed. I will like to crave your indulgence to the fact that Nicene concept of Trinity is never stated in the Bible, and it is that early Christians as well as the scriptures clearly points out the fact that Jesus was fully divine and pre existent. For the fact that, none of the early Christian theologians fully asserted the doctrine of the Trinity, not even a speculation about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. According to the father of the paganism description of Trinity God can in no way be described. (Schindler 148). In the 4th century there are different schools of thought that were developed in Antioch, were they try to literarily interpret the Scriptures with a great deal of emphasis on the historical context of Trinity. Arius who is also known as Nicene, came up with the Nicene Creed by arguing the fact that Jesus was not God, and the Father by itself is true God. Base on the fact that God created Jesus, Arius was able to support his argument with the books of (Proverbs 8:22 and John 14:28) the Father is greater than I as a proof. On the other hand, a number of philosophy was able to argue that Christ was homoousios (same or one substance) in a way to debunk Nicene Creed by describing the relationship that exist between the father and Son, by stating the fact that Jesus is God that come to earth as a man which is also the Father. The Four Idols That Distort The Truth The Four Idols that Distort the Truth in the Darkness In discussions of our susceptibility of delusions and false beliefs, Plato argues that humans can choose whether they want to follow the false beliefs in the darkness, or go into the light by facing all aspects of reality with honesty. Bacon s argue is similar to Plato s and Bacon combines the four mistakes of human nature into four different idols. Idol of the tribe, cave, marketplace, and theater. Although Plato and Bacon claim that we are susceptible to delusions and false beliefs, I claim that the truth is distorted by human understanding and people are teaching the distorted truth to other people, so people become blinded when they go from the darkness, the bad, to the light, or the good. Bacon explains what Idols of the Cave are, and how they lead to a distortion of the truth. The Idols of the Cave are the idols of the individual man. For everyone (besides the errors common to human nature in general) has a cave or den of his own, which refracts and discolors the light of nature (Bacon 131). Here, Bacon describes that every person has their own ВЁcave which represents the fault of people. The cave distorts the truth and reality, and this is how false facts come to be. Because everyone has their own cave, one truth is distorted differently by every single person until the truth is completely nonexistent. The human mind distorts the truth even more because person has a different perception on the world. For example, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, I have entrapped myself in the pit of going from one extreme to another, contributing to my pessimist onlook on life. Further, when I observe a buildup of someone neglecting to pursue their priorities, I can vent out in anger at that person. Also, if I do not put my thoughts into actions, I set myself up for negative experiences in relationships. People can experience extreme bouts of agitation in ways involving delays, lack of resources, losses, or failures. An example of my anger occurs in the category of delays. When my siblings do not pick up after themselves, bitterness towards them can increase within me. Moreover, due to my somewhat bossy personality, my siblings consider me the mother in my household. Thus, when I acknowledge someone s laziness in their responsibilities, typically, I ask the slacker to do her job again. Yet, when I begin to see that siblingconstantly forgetting to do that specific job, anger within me can harbor. Immediately, I make assumptions as to why she acts that way and can feel stressed out about the problem. Next, I angrily communicate the sibling s downfall considering the assumption I have of her, and I tell her how she must fix the problem. Without asking why she did not do her job, I insensitively corrected her. Or if the sibling has an explanation for her lethargy, I resist to show sympathy because of my frustration at the moment. However, after a scenario like this, I then can feel distressed at my own pride of thinking that I am right and my sibling is wrong. In the end, I identify that usually I am the one more in the wrong than the sibling, taking the path of humility. There must be a reason, the argument says, for the existence of the universe and the reason has to be something which is not part of the physical world of time and space. The cosmological argument was used by Thomas Aquinas (1225 74) in his five ways, which were ways of demonstrating the existence of God through inductive argument based on observation and evidence. In Aquinas view, knowledge of God could be reached in two ways; one through revelation for example, through the words of the Bible and the other is through our own human reason. • 19. Moving Human Resources into an Employee Empowerment Culture Situation Moving Human Resources into an Employee Empowerment Culture Issue Employees are no longer content to work in an environment of adversity and autocracy. Instead, the decade long tradition of the Human Rights Movement for more than one generation lets individuals know that empowerment, change, respect, and actualization are powerful tools that will not only benefit employees, but increase productivity and profits for owners and managers. This has been the case for Yammer, the San Francisco based company that makes social networking software for businesses (Hoge, 2012). Theory Empowerment theory is tied up in Total Quality Management and the new models of Strategic Human Resource Management. Both TQM and SHRM move from simply the tactical to the strategic, looking at long term results, development of employees, retention as a strategy, and utilizing the human element as part of the overall business planning cycle (Wilkinson, 1998). Results Empowerment theory allows the organization as a whole to participate in the planning and execution process of the company. It allows non managerial staff members to take ownership, feel part of a larger whole, and increase their own performance as well as that of their departments and co workers. Using empowerment theory, absences decrease, job satisfaction increases, and almost all stakeholders report a more positive working experience and environment (Employee Empowerment, 2011). Jackson, from his magnificent piece on suburbanization Crabgrass Frontier. Suburbanization has been probably the most significant factor of change in U.S. cities over the last 50 years, and began 150 years ago. It represents Aa reliance upon the private automobile, upward mobility, the separation of the family into nuclear units, the widening division between work and leisure, and a tendency toward racial and economic exclusiveness.@ Overall it may represent the change in attitude of the American people.... Such an economic shift is identified as being a result of Awhite flight@, where the urban whites fled to the suburbs after WWII, with the immigrants, blacks, and rural dwellers moving in. The economy switched from an industrial economy to a post industrial or service economy, with the older factories being replaced by smaller factories (computers, airplanes, appliances), requiring higher skilled workers. In effect these new factories were located outside the city in the suburbs. The central city would be left with nothing, and virtually no opportunities of any magnitude. Detroit is a city that I believe can be identified as the city which went through the greatest amount of change, being heavily relied on one industry. During the first half of the twentieth century, Detroit was probably the most economically booming city in the United States. Since about 1950, Detroit has gone from Aarsenal of democracy@, having one of the fastest growing populations and was home to the highest paid working class workers as well, to losing nearly 1 million people. Many jobs were also lost with many business leaving the city of today empty and sometimes complete city blocks left completely empty. How Michael Moore Makes His Arguments in Bowling for Columbine Michael Moore in his latest documentary, Bowling for Columbine , has aimed his camera directly between the eyes of our American culture. Using the school shootings of 1999 in Columbine and Flint as a starting point, Moore documents the fear and hypocrisy that has come to define this American culture. I m going to avoid discussion of the specific material presented in this moving film; I feel no need to reinvent the wheel, it would only come out square. But self awareness that Bowling for Columbine can provide would be a good first step for many of us. Likely to be most thought provoking film of the year, Bowling For Columbine is Michael Moore s big, heartfelt, funny, angry, messy exploration of guns and violence in U.S. culture. The question posed is this: Why do we as Americans shoot and kill over 11,000 people on average each year? What causes the Columbines? What causes innocent bystanders? Why don t other countries have these problems, even ones with lots of guns, or a violent national history? What makes us so insanely special? Moore s savviest choice is to avoid placing blame for American gun violence on easy targets. Indeed, he seems less interested in placing blame than in burrowing in to find the reasons behind the problems, to peel back the curtain and take a long hard look at the wizard (In the film s climax, Moore interviews NRA chieftain Chuck Heston. Heston was always a bold actor, and here he bravely chooses to talk to Moore void of all logic, proving that utter cluelessness can serve evil just as well as malice can.) The impact of new technology and lack of proper waste management has been drastic on our home planet, planet Earth. Technology has been evolving greatly, and as technology has been evolving, another issue has arisen, the lack of proper waste disposal. Improper waste disposal is when items which belong in a certain area, are incorrectly being disposed of. For example, a plastic water bottle being thrown out in the garbage instead of the recycling. Advancements in technology and improper waste disposal both have harmful causes on the Earth, negatively impact humanhealth, and cause an effect on the economy. For thousand s of years, humans have been working to evolve technology to what it is today, but little do they realize the effects it has on our Earth. Most of these technological advancements require fossil fuels, and thus these advancements reduce the amount of fossil fuels we have left. This greatly endangers the Earth, as carbon dioxide is released into the air when the fossil fuels are burned(1). This ultimately harms the environment. The major acoustical issues in public buildings are concerned with the exclusion of outdoor noise and the separation of noise generated within the buildings. This chapter will consider specific types of public buildings in which acoustic designs are a matter of importance, such as schools, offices, libraries, recreational buildings, hospitals and government buildings. To obtain a space free from the annoyance of noise and excessive reverberation, a few step one could take would be as follows: planning the build with consideration of noise insulation so that rooms which contain sources of considerable noise level are separated from rooms that are required to silent; providing sufficient noise insulation for rooms where silence is need as well as implementing sound absorption to reduces the reverberation and noise created by that room to a more acceptable level. It is well to recognise that uncontrolled noise in public buildings will diminish their utility Since the dawn of the twenty first century, public school have shown more attention to acoustical problems in part due to the increased use of open planning, more informal teaching methods and an increased use of audio visual aids. • 28. Pros And Cons Of A Representative Democracy Stauffenberg, Griffin Analytical Paper #1 Take it all the way back to when the constitution was being written. The founding fathers had a big choice to make; did they establish a direct democracy or a representative democracy? They had to weigh the pros and cons of each and they ended up deciding on a representative democracy. In this paper I will tell you why they made things the way they did and certain compromises they made along the way. Some of the major features in a direct democracy are that the people get to directly elect things such as the president or for laws to be passed or not. The big advantages of a direct democracy are that voting takes much less time as it is just a vote among all the citizens, people see the the changes they voted for take effect faster, and people feel like their vote is valued and powerful. The downsides to a direct democracy are that sometimes the popular vote isn t always the right vote and people realize that after it s too late to change what they did. Around the time of the American Revolution the majority of people were considered, too uneducated to govern themselves (Schmidt, et al, 5). When our constitution was being written many of the founding fathers did not believe that the common people were ready to govern themselves, so they set up a representative democracy instead of a direct democracy. James Madison thought that if we did implement a direct democracy it would, deteriorate into mob rule (Schmidt,et al, 5). A major ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Wittmer) The story of Creation reminds Christians of how the world should be, well and good, and can help to paint a clearer picture of what the restored earth will be like. The Gnostic ideas are valid only if God created an imperfect world. Christians know, because of the Creation story, that God created a perfect world. Recently, however, this area has experience the worst 3 year drought on record. The drought conditions exacerbated existing political, water and agricultural insecurity and caused mass agricultural failure, livestock mortality, massive rural to urban human migrations. Kelley et al set out to understand how these effects were the product of vulnerability and hazard severity by analyzing Syrias liability to drought and the social impacts of the recent droughts leading to the onset of the Syrian civil war. The Kelley team completed their analysis through observations and climatemodels in order to assess how unusual the drought was within the observed records and the reasons why it was so severe. Kelley et al believe that the socio economic severity of the drought was due to a variety of factors, however, there were ___ main factors that exacerbated one another. One such factor that ignited the following sequence of events was the Syrians governments agricultural policy of increasing agricultural production to assist rural constituents. The increase in unsustainable agricultural production led to a rapid decline of groundwater in which farms without access to irrigation canals linked to river tributaries, pumped groundwater supplies roughly 60% of all water used for irrigation purposes. Stairs have throughout the history of humanity played an integral role in civilisation, and continue to do so today. Some of the first examples of the most basic stairs were not created on purpose, but instead were rocks used to climb worn down by years of heavy traffic, or foot holes carved into terrain to make an ascent easier. Wood trunks were cut or fitted together to make levels but were not used in buildings. Also, the Appalachian Mountains and the dense forests provided a barrier for the colonists, preventing them from going too far west right away, and causing the colonies to form in the arrangement they did. Both of these factors could be overlooked easily enough, but did have a reasonable impact of the development of colonial America. Finally, the geography of the middle colonies, such as New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania played a big role on the development and population of this area. In the sixteen and seventeen hundreds, the above colonies were the most populated of the thirteen establishments. There was plentiful and fertile soil, in which tobacco was heavily grown. The Susquehanna River also flowed through this region, opening the possibility of fur trade. In effect, it would be safe to assume that change over prolonged periods denotes progress from one point to another. In the case of film production, there is a stark difference between films produced as early as the 1950s and those produced following the turn of the 21st century. This change can be thematic or evident from the nature of production, which is important in describing the degree of variance between the old and the new. This is the case of the analysis of the films I Know Where I m Going (1945) and Separate Lie (2005), which are British films set more than 50 years apart. Both of these films belong in the romance genre and are likely to possess both similarities and differences in their depiction of the social attitudes and issues of the times in which they were produced. • 41. Causes Of The Arab Malaise 4. Samir Kassir describes Arabs perpetual sense of malaise, or despair, and argues that it is possible for the Arab states to become secular democracies and adopt the principles of equality and justice. This is characterized by, chronic rates of illiteracy, inordinate disparities between rich and poor, overpopulation of cities and desertification of land . Some of the causes of the Arab Malaise is the gaze of the western other, feelings of being left behind, sense of powerlessness and geography. The gaze of the western other, is a condescending gaze that reaffirms the inferiority of Muslim societies, preventing everything even escape and inability to overcome insurmountable condition, (Kassir). Further, Arab Malaise is worsened by the fact that Arab societies used to be comparable to East Asian, Latin American and Sub Saharan African states. However, to Arabs, that is no longer the case with all states except for the Arab societies moving toward democratic and technologically advanced societies. The third cause of Arab Malaise is the sense of powerless to act and affirm existence in face of other s domination that Arabs feel. This sense of powerlessness was reinforced by Iraq US intervention where Arab community was unable to fight against American intervention. Also, when Israel was established in Palestinian territory, the Palestinians could not fight back because of the strong American unfailing support of Israel, making Israel capable of literally do anything it wants, (Kassir, 8). Geography was also an important factor in creating malaise. The Arab world is situated between two continents and has its own sense of tradition, and identity, however, Arabs are constantly reminded of colonial powers and presence on their territory today through the presence of Israel. The defeat against Israel in 1948 (Nakba) was a great humiliation and blow to the Arabs because it signified that colonial rule was to be perpetually present in the Arab World for centuries to come. Finally, the existence of oil in the region is a source of instability and malaise. The oil attracts western powers and increasing West involvements leading the new hegemony of the United States in the Middle East (Kassir, 76). Arab ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Is The Difference Between Arx And Engel s Theory Of... arx and Engels believed that the system at work of labor in society created a general alienation of people from consciousness of their species being ; consciousness of being human. Within this theory of human alienation, Marx and Engels provide three components from which people are generally estranged from: the objects of labor, from nature, and from the labor itself. Plato, in contrast, believed that human alienation lived on the basis of specialization, efficiency, and lack of education. That people, in Socrates Kallipolis, were generally alienated from the Form of the Truth and Ideas. He derails from Marx and Engels in the sense that Plato never believed in an inevitable Communist Revolution, but in a possible political revolution, needed in order to maintain moderation and avoid the clash of ideas in society. Where Marx and Engels believe in communismfor the good of economy, Socrates believed in communism for the good of the government and his Republic. Marx and Engels believed that the economy during the Industrial Revolution created a mechanical system in which people came to be alienated from the reality of being a human being. They argue that because society is putting in all of its effort to compete with each other so that production becomes a competition, people lose their sense of living, the sense of themselve, their species being. The one question I found most interesting is, Can white, native born, economically secure Americans ever really understand, much less help, those who are struggling to survive? (1). Much of the prevalent political culture emphasized Aryan superiority, as well as the concern a changing society would suffer from massive immigration. Even authors, such as Charlotte Perkins Gilman, recognized the oppression she suffered from as a woman. However, she did not recognize the oppression others suffered in her embracing of anti immigration as well as racist beliefs. Reactionary to the massive immigration of this time, Charlotte Perkins Gilman also supported eugenics to improve the human race. Yet Addams did not argue immigrants were inferior to the Aryan people. In fact, three quarters of her residents at Hull House were first and second generation immigrants. Not only was Addams sympathetic to the poor, but she also was sympathetic to the plight of immigrants. I find Jane Addams s commitment to social change extraordinary. It is accurate that gods and divine figures had quite a profound impact in the lives of people at the time; they were the center of the belief system in ancient Greece with followers calling out to them daily. During this time, Euripidesa philosopher and writer of tragedy composed the controversial play Medea. This work delves deeper into understanding gods versus what people expect of them. Despite her appeal, they do not intervene and assist her. As stated in the last paragraph, it is as if gods do not exist because they do not answer. This is affirmed by the quote, gods ... no longer rule (Euripides 494). Speaking of gods, when looking at all the references to gods in the play, it is evident that most instances go unanswered or unnoticed. However, this excludes the interaction with Helios (the sun god whom gave Medea a crown, robe and the escape chariot). This can be seen as an allusion to that there are no gods: out of all the times they are invoked, they seldom answer the pleas. Under an analytical lens, this can be seen as a way of Euripides conveying the idea that divine intervention is merely a coincidence that occurs once out of many pleas to the gods, thus further supporting his pro Atheistic message. With the absence of the divine, Medea takes initiative and performs what is necessary herself: I [Medea] must face / the deed (Euripides 1050 1051). They came to a lab where they served as teachers in a supposed learning and memory experiment. A simulated shock generator with 30 switches was used. It was clearly marked with voltage levels and verbal designations ranging from 15 volts (slight shock) to 450 volts (danger: severe shock). The participants task was to administer an electric shock to the learner, a confederate of the experimenter, whenever he made an error in the memory test, increasing the intensity of shock each time. When the participant refused to administer a shock, the experimenter would give a series of prods to the participants to ensure that they continue with the experiment, even if they reached the marked danger of a severe shock, or heard the learner s screams and pounding from an adjacent room. The experiment ended when the maximum voltage of shock had been delivered, or if the participant refused to continue any further. • 54. Public Policy Concerning Education During Prisons Public policy concerning education in prisons decisively emphasizes punitive programming over rehabilitate or educational programming. In regards to higher education in prisons the persuasive public echo of why should criminals get for free what the rest of us pay for is a falsehood built on the backs of these rulings. I would argue that the educationpaid for through incarceration entails a greater personal cost of freedoms than a paid tuition could ever represent. I doubt anyone would ever go to prisonto obtain a free education. The ever increasing costs of higher education invoke a regime of scarcity that produces anxiety within the working and middle class. Higher education no longer represents automatic future economic security, furthering social fear. I would argue against the elimination of higher education in prisons; research shows that prison education reduces recidivism rates and improves public safety (Chappell). Education behind bars means a greater likelihood of post release employment. Post release employment means stability and independence. Stability and independence mean a lower chance of recidivism. Criminal justice researchers Richard Tewksbury and Kenneth Stengel conclude a more abstract benefit of prison education than just reducing recidivism, Participation in educational programs yields a positive influence on the psychological well being of inmates, reduces rule infractions, and enrolled inmates serve as role models to other inmates ... Driving in the absence of lane lines, crosswalks, or any sense of organization made the eleven hour bus ride from the airport to my final destination all the more calamitous and fearsome. However, the most shocking of all in this initial experience of a new culture, was seeing vast amounts abandoned children. The biggest contrast between American society and Ugandan society is the difference in the value of children. In America, parents generally highly value their children and are willing to make sacrifices them. For children in Uganda , the story is quite different; they are exploited, abused, and viewed as burdens. The adverse effects of military occupation in Uganda can be traced back to the beginning of colonization. European countries like Britain, Belgium, and France all rushed into Africaat the end of the 19th Century trying to get their slice of Africa. Some nations were worse than others, but the two common themes that tied African imperialism together were racism and exploitation. For decades, the Ugandan people were under rulers that exploited them and treated them as if they could not be trusted in society.
