Analyzing 50 s And 60s American Society Through Music
Analyzing 50 s and 60s American society through music
The two songs that I am going to analyze Is Nina Simone To Be Young, Gifted and Black, and Gil
Scott Heron Whitey on the Moon . I will view both of these songs in terms of there contributions to
the counter hegemonic force fighting against the dominant white supremacist ideology that was
prevalent during the 50 s and 60 s.
To give some quick context about Nina Simone, she was a genuine musical artist who routinely
recorded music that ranged across tunes from all genres. The greatest of these was To Be Young,
Gifted and Black, which Simone composed with her new protГ©gГ© Weldon Irvine, a youthful
jazz artist and arranger of musicals, whose frightful verses paid tribute to the late civil rights
activist Lorraine Hansberry, who fought bravely for the rights of all Americans before her
unfourtanate death. Nina Simone had noticed that the moral of black Americans was destroyed by
the way that the dominant ideology of white supremacy which had successfully sold the idea that
all races that were not White were inferior, low class citizens who should accept there roles and
deal with it. She acted as a counter hegemonic force that challenged the way blacks were thought to
view themselves for what they really are, valuable, talented, and gifted human beings just like the
Anglos were. Gil Scott Heron sang the lyric Whitey on the Moon in 1970 reacting to Neil Armstrong
s outing to the moon. In the ballad, Scott Heron grapples

MHPA Research Paper
The Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008, also known as MHPAEA is defined
as a federal law that prevents group health plans and health insurance issuers that provide mental
health or substance use disorder benefits from imposing less favorable benefit limitations on those
benefits than on medical or surgical benefits (Centers for Medicareand Medicaid Services, para 1).
Originally, MHPAEA applied only to group health plans and group health insurance
coverage, but
was amended by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to also apply to individual
health insurance coverage (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, para 2). The Mental
Health Parity Act of 1996 (MHPA) defined that large group health plans could not impose annual
dollar limits on mental health benefits that are less favorable than any limits imposed on medical

The new law requires an equivalence in the way that mental health or substance use disorders and
medical or surgical benefits are treated in regard to dollar limits spent annually, however does not
require large group health plans or insurance issuers to cover mental health or substance use

requirements only apply to large group health plans and health insurance issuers that choose to

Bourgeoisie Vs Proletariat Analysis
Marx identified two social classes which are the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. The bourgeoisie
owned the product, and the means of production are distribution and the profit. Then, there is the
proletariat also known as laborers these are the people that typically did not have the resources to
invest in mass production. The only thing they could sell was their labor. Marx was a staunch
supporter of the proletariat. He believed that the proletariat gains let up last much in a capitalist
system, and all the bourgeoisie benefited a great deal. He thought that the proletariat would
eventually overthrow the bourgeoisie, and a new economic system would create. Marx believed
that society needed a better means of distributing wealth but also a better way of tapping into a full
humanpotential. According to Marx what we do is directly connected to... Show more content on

The world of capitalism puts people in positions of competition. Therefore, everyone looks out for
themselves. A labor competes with others for higher wages, better hours and the best benefits for
their good and not for the best interest of the group. There is little to no concern about a collective
common good or a sense of cooperation.
The last type of alienation is alienation from oneself. Alienation from oneself grabs a person of
all they can be and contribute to the world. Marx believed that what we contribute to the world
in terms ever work is part of our species essence or what makes us human. What we contribute to
the world is a manifestation of our creativity and creativity is an essential part of our human
nature and our base product society. Many people alienated from their very human nature. People

Compare and Contrast Communism, Socialism, and Capitalism
What is communism? Communism is a term used broadly to designate a theory or system of
social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being
ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state. It refers to the doctrine which underlines the
revolutionary movement which aims to abolish capitalism and ultimately to establish a society in
which all goods will be socially owned, all economic activates socially planned and controlled, and
in which all distributions will be in accordance with the maxim. German author Emil Ludwig
described the maxim as for each according to his capacity, to each according to his need. (1) It is to
be distinguished from socialism which aims by constitutional and democratic... Show more content

As mentions before socialism is the doctrine that espouses public ownership or control of a major
means of production. It aims to achieve an equitable and efficient distribution of social goods and
greater economic planning then exist under capitalism. Although the central concerns of socialism
appears to be economic its ramifications extend to the moral, social and political realms, in fact
together with nationalism, it is the leading ideological and political movement of the 20th century.
It is considered to be the transitional phase between the capitalism and communism. Thus, you
would find all communists advocating for socialism because it lays the foundations for
communism. It advocates an egalitarian society where everyone shares equal wealth and power.
There is a considerable disagreement over how the distribution should take place. Hence, socialism
can be said to be between extreme capitalism and extreme communism with it being nearer to
communism. Socialism is liberal. More people have say in how the economy works. (5) The basic
principles of contempary socialism have their origin in the economic, social and cultural
transformations of Europe which occurred during the 18th and 19th centuries. Contributing factors
were the Industrial Revolution and the rise of the bourgeois and proletarian classes, the
enlightenment s secular and rationalistic view of men and society, and the democratic demands of
the French Revolution. Social ownership and

Vapor Pressure
The properties of freezing point, boiling point, vapor pressure, and osmotic pressure are
properties that can be manipulated based on the ratio of a solute in a solution compared to the
pure solvent. A pure solvent is generally a liquid compound that has the ability to dissolve other
materials chemically. Decreased freezing point is the temperature at which the solution or solvent
becomes solid, leaving the solute behind. The boiling point is how much it takes for the pressure
of the water to become more than the atmospheric pressure or when the vapor pressure of the
liquid becomes greater than the atmospheric pressure. Vapor pressure can be described in terms of
the pressure rates of molecules going in or out of a state of liquid or gas... Show more content on

A colligative property is the property of a solution that differs from the solute when an ionic
compound is added to the solute and it depends on the ratio of dissolved particles to the solvent
in a solution. Colligative properties are properties of a solvent and change with the presence of
a solute, but these are properties that are independent of what the solvent and solute are.
Freezing point is the temperature at which the solution or solvent becomes solid. An example of
freezing point property in action is when salt is added to water and is spread on ice, causing the
water and the ice to have a lower freezing point. As seen when brine is applied to roadways, the
solvent water, when combined with the solute salt, the freezing point is lowered. The boiling
point property is demonstrated when the pressure of the water becomes more than the
atmospheric pressure, or when the vapor pressure of a liquid becomes greater than the
atmospheric pressure in a closed environment. An example of ionic compounds in boiling would
be to add salt to water when boiling water for cooking pasta. When the salt is added, the boiling
point becomes higher, which in turn creates the potential to cook the pasta at a higher temperature
to save time. Vapor pressure is the amount of pressure that is applied by the vapor in the air or in a
contained environment on the substance from which it came. An example of vapor

Human Social Perception Of Social Psychology
Human Social Perception in Empirical Literature
Human social perception is area of study within social psychology that involves the complex
cognitive system that is personal to each individual. Since each person has a unique cognitive
system, interpretation of social situations is unique to each individual. The differences in cognition
and perception between different people allows for varied interpretations, accurate perceptions,
and misperceptions. Social perception is an interesting topic that has been largely researched by a
multitude of social psychologists. The goal of this paper is to provide a brief description of social
psychology, a summary of social perception, some of its forms and uses, misperception, and
accuracy in perception.
Brief Description of Social Psychology
Social psychology is the scientific field that focuses on the individual within society. Due to this
individualistic focus, people are often studied experimentally within or in relation to social
environments. Social psychology studies the effects of social processes and cognitive processes on
the way individuals perceive, influence, and relate to others, in a systematic way, using scientific
methods (Smith Mackie, 2007). Due to the complexity of the human body and mind, social
psychology is a vast field that has been explored by many experts. As social creatures, people
interact constantly within an environment that requires complex cognitive and perceptual
processes. As a result, the

Fall Of Communism Essay
v The fall of communism in Poland also inspired the fall of communism throughout Eastern Europe
in 1989, in a period sometimes referred to as the Autumn of Nations (a play on the Springtime of
Nations used to describe the 1848 revolutions). Lech Walesa stated in an interview that he and the
Poles lost many battles along the way, but [they] peacefully won the war (qtd. in Morris). A similar,
drawn out process to defeat communismoccurred in other Eastern Bloc countries around this time.
Pope John Paul II once said the following: Freedom is not just something to have and to use, it is
something to be fought for. One must use freedom to build with it personal life as well as the life
of the nation (qtd. in Walesa). Other nations in Eastern Europe followed this path, similar to Poland

Huygens Accomplishments
While he was not observing the stars, one problem that plagued Huygens throughout his life was
that of time. In 1658, he was the first to build a pendulum clock the first great step towards modern
timekeeping (Magill et. al.). He published the schematics and his speculations about future
improvements in his Horologium in 1658. While this solved the problem of keeping time, one of the
most important applications of this technology continually evaded him. In order to reliably
determine ones latitude while at sea, some form of accurate timekeeping is needed. As a citizen of
the Dutch Republic, whose economy was heavily dependent on shipping via the sea, Huygens was
especially desperate to solve this problem. However, when he sought to apply... Show more content

Huygens was one of the first scientists to recognize that the speed of light must necessarily be a
finite quantity, and from this he was able to determine a kinematic theory of light. The theory
details spherical waves which emanate at the speed of light (which Huygens did not explicitly
define other than saying that it was a finite quantity) in uniform wave fronts. Huygens spherical
light waves propagated in a longitudinal fashion, and thus must necessarily have a medium
through which to propagate. Huygens envisioned this ether was composed of tiny, closely spaced,
elastic particles, which vibrate and pass on the waves of light (Charles). However, not all of
Huygens contemporaries agreed with his formulation of the wave nature of light. Isaac Newton, in
particular, was a vocal opponent of his theory in favor of his own corpuscular theory of light.
Huygens, as stated in his Ebscohost Biography: ...regarded the transmission of such particles
through empty space to be mere Newtonian action at a distance again and incompatible with a
mechanistic view of nature . However, Newton s prominence at the time meant that Huygens s
theory of light remained relatively unknown until mid 19th century, when it was rediscovered and
eventually reformulated into what we now know as the Maxwell

Synthesis of Mdma
INTRODUCTION:
All information here is to be used at your own risk. The procedures documented in this file, if
carried out by unlicensed individuals would violate laws against controlled substances in most
countries and could result in criminal charges being filed. If carried out by individuals unskilled at
chemistry they could result in serious bodily harm.
MDMA ( Ecstasy ) is a semi synthetic compound which can be made relatively easily from
available precursors. Synthesis instructions exist which can be followed by an amateur with very
little knowledge of chemistry. However, people with less than 2 years of college chemistry
experience would probably not be capable of sucessfully synthesizing MDMA, and would either

The Leukart reaction is 2 step with lower yields and requires chemical apparatus.
There are also two synthetic methods which proceed directly from safrole rather than through
isosafrole. The first is the Ritter reaction which goes through the intermediate N acetyl MDA. The
Ritter reaction is time consuming, requires a degree of laboratory skill and produces poor yields.
The other method uses HBr to produce 3,4 methylenedioxyphenyl 2 bromopropane which is then
converted into MDA or MDMA. This scheme produces poor yields, and Dal Cason referenced the
australian journal _ANALOG_ where a hazard had been documented. It is, however, attractive for
its sheer simplicity. It requires no specialized chem equipment or reagents at all.
Beta nitroisosafrole is a less used precursor, but there is a large literature on the synthesis and
reduction of nitro alkenes. This synthetic route isn t as popular due to the easier availability of
precursors for MDP 2 P, and it also results in MDA which must then be further processed to give
MDMA or any other N alkyl homolog of MDA. There are numerous ways to convert beta
nitroisosafrole to MDA: LiAlH4, AlH3, electrolytic, Na(Hg), BH3 THF / NaBH4, Raney Ni
catalyst, Pd / BaSO4 catalyst, Zn (Hg). Beta nitroisosafrole, when used, is commonly synthesized
from piperonal. Beta nitroisosafrole can also be used as a precursor for MDP 2 P, but this is not
commonly done.
There are other synthetic routes, such as

Thematic Essay On The Painted Bird
A thematic research paper on the novel of The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinski In Jerzy Kosinski s
novel, T he Painted Bird, marginalisation creates genocide, a crimeВridden second class, and vast
amounts of psychological torment. Jews were massacred during World War II causing the
young boy to flee from village after village to avoid being sent to a concentration camp. The
young boy s plea for safety lands him in various situations, many of which cause him to be
tortured and/or abused. Psychological torment from marginalisation causes the young boy to

to feel depressed. Marginalisation of society in World War II causes a genocide; this genocide
forces the young boy to flee from his home and make an endless journey in search of a place of
sanctuary. During World War II, Jews were sent to concentration camps and extermination camps
in an effort to promote their marginalisation and genocide; the young boy knew this reality and

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Mercedes Ad Of The Red Sl...
What is it about an advertisement that makes people want to purchase that item? Could it be the
idea of showing it off, personal attraction, or utilizing it in everyday life? The advertisement I
chose to analyze does absolutely stunning in doing all three and more. The Mercedes ad of the
red SL class car gives off a romantic look due to the color of the car and the caption on the left;
and a rough and powerful look at the same time from the rigid mountainous background. The
images looks extremely realistic, like every detail of it was picked up by a high tech camera.
The main focus of the image is the front of the car closest to the foreground, with it going out
towards the other parts making it one elegant picture. Ethos, Pathos, and logos play a major role
in this ad to appeal to the audiences senses and attract the viewers the ad is aimed towards. This
ad does marvelous in using rhetorical techniques to appeal to the viewer and persuade them to
purchase this car. My ad has a mountainous background with a tint of blue in it, giving the
impression of it taking place in the morning and the feeling of the cool breeze right before the sun
rises. The sun can be seen beginning to rise on the right side slightly above the car; with the full
capacity of the suns light being obscured by the mountain in front of it. A body of water can be
seen cutting through the mountains almost behind the front of the car, adding to the images beauty.

Essay On The American Dream A Reality
In modern society the idea of the American Dream, is perceived differently by each and every

Dream can be perceived is as a dream in which that cannot be reached, but also in the way that
this so called dream can be made a reality. Today, most people do not work as hard as they used
to and strive to reach that point of making this so called dream a reality, but there also is that
small portion of people that strive to make that dream a reality. Throughout today s society, there
are multiple ideologies about this so called American Dream. Many people in society strive and

Odysseus Influence On Homer s Odyssey
Think you re escaping and run into yourself. Longest way round is the shortest way home
(James Joyce). A profound summary of the themes in Joyce s Ulysses, the quote above deals
with journey, escapism, identity, and nostalgia; all important parts of everyday life. Ulysses,
however, was far from the first literary work to deal with themes such as those. Indeed, the works
of Joyce, as well as Dante, Milton, and Virgil can be directly traced to the works of Homer,
specifically the Odyssey. One of the most translated, discussed, and taught literary works of all
time, the influence of Homer s Odyssey cannot be understated. Although Odysseuss journey is
magnificent and supernatural, the epic discusses the deeply personal struggles of one man, swept
up in forces beyond his control, as well as telling one of the first, if not the very first, coming of age

ways. One of which is to reflect a pessimistic view on American politics. While Bill Clinton
asserted humorously that 99% of House of cards is accurate, the 1% that s not accurate is that you
can never pass an education bill that fast , in all seriousness, the excessive treachery and murder is
not an accurate depiction of everyday Washington. Political Scientist Seth Masket expresses that as
an entertainment program, very mundane things are going to be excessively dramatized . Figure 6.

Political science graduate Miles Kellerman asserted that if House of Cards proceeds in the spirit
of a traditional Shakespearean tragedy , Underwood s clutch at power will prove ultimately self
destructive. This relates to how Shakespeare s tragedies emphasize poetic justice, meaning that the
antagonist would ultimately be punished, typically through death. Thus, Francis and Claire might
face the same fate in the following season, similar to how Shakespearian anti heroes such as
Macbeth meet their downfall after reaching the top of the political hierarchy. If the Shakespeare
trajectory of punishing the evil is followed in House of Cards, this show serves the social function
of discouraging politicians from misconduct. Audiences will also have a sense of justice as this
outcome of Francis reflects an ideal world where those that committed wrongdoings faces
consequence, regardless of power

We Cannot Show Disrespect To People With Disabilities
I have been fortunate enough to work in a field that does not show disrespect to people with
disabilities. Sadly, the world we live in doesn t work the same way as Head Start. I do not watch
TV at all, but when I used to I don t remember really seeing many commercials or shows that
blatantly disrespected people with disabilities, but what little I have seen in the media seems be
geared toward gaining pity for those individuals. This always saddens me, as in my mind every
individual has some sort of disability, some are just more pronounced than others. I know at Head
Start people first language is often used, however society has so often forgotten that every human
being has feelings and it is easy to slip back into using negative phrases

Suffering In Into Thin Air
According to Friedrich Nietzsche, a famous German scholar and philosopher, To live is to suffer, to
survive is to find some meaning in the suffering, After reading the memoir, Into Thin Air, by Jon
Krakauer, the message is evident that one of the main themes of the story is suffering. Immediately
to begin the story, the narrator, Jon Krakauer, is standing upon the peak of Mt. Everest.
Immediately this poses a lot of questions as to how he got there and the pain he must have went
through because there is no easy journey to take to climb a mountain. Krakauer and his guides take
a risk but suffer through the pain to come out on top. Even though he had to suffer at times, it was
all worth it in the end when he accomplished what many people couldn t do. Climbing a mountain

There is very limited oxygen when the climbers are that high in the air. In chapter 8 of the book
there is dialogue and it is Are you not feeling good, Jon? he mocked. This is only Camp One, six
thousand meters. The air is still very thick. Jon was already becoming tired and not feeling good.
Because the air is minimal, they must use oxygen tanks. These oxygen tanks can run out of
oxygen at any time and when they do, it causes a lot of suffering for the climbers. When they can
t breathe they have absolutely no strength to keep themselves going. Even though they may be
able to last a little bit of time without it, they are suffering because it takes all the energy out of
their body just to do the simplest task of breathing. In chapter 8 is when they are really hiking and
realizing how tough this climb would truly be. The book states, By the time he arrived at the tents
that afternoon Ngawang was delirious, stumbling like a drunk, and coughing up pink, blood laced
froth, (pg.106). The imagery that the author gives us just from this sentence really helps the reader
imagine just how the characters are feeling. Also, logically they are suffering

Criticism And The Themes Of Antoni Gaudi
Antoni Gaudi: I chose Antoni Gaudi because of the way he managed to incorporate the themes
of nature and religion into his work. Gaudi had a very deep appreciation and pride of the
Mediterranean heritage. A famous comment of him was We own the image. Fantasy comes from
the ghosts. Fantasy is what people in the North own. We are concrete this really describes his
way of viewing his own work... through his complete disregard from past designers and his lust
for starting a new trend which he got from nature. His love for nature was started by the time he
spent in his garden while enjoying his youth. He would spend hours in the garden looking at how
trees would move in the wind. This would later go on to inspire him to use the great sweeping
curves he would later use in his design projects. Goudi suffered from extreme rheumatism, this
contributed to his reticent and reserved nature. His doctors concerns where one of the leading

Skara Brae- A Stone Age Village
Skara Brae is a Neolithic (stone age) village located on the Orkney Islands, found north of
Scotland (see image 1). Using radiocarbon dating, it has been discovered that Skara Brae was one
of the earliest farming villages in Britain having been inhabited over 5000 years ago. It was due
to isolation and minimal changes to the landscape that a village that was created between 3100
and 2500 BC is one of the best preserved villages in northern Europe today.

Argumentative Essay On Food Deserts
Eradicating food deserts has definitely become a significant issue in food and nutrition guidelines
and programs across the entire nation. As part of her Let s Move! campaign, Michelle Obama was
a huge advocate for this and aimed on eliminating food deserts within seven years in the United
States (Corapi). To achieve this goal, accurate definitions and the identification of the numerous
fooddeserts are certainly required. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC), food deserts are areas that lack access to affordable fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low
fat milk, and other foods that make up a full and healthy diet (CDC Features). This is largely due
to a lack of grocery stores, farmers markets, and healthy food... Show more content on

if people want to buy a head of lettuce or salad or some fruit for their kid s lunch, they have to

the food deserts in the several low income neighborhoods within the city of Chicago. Mrs.
Obama has also advocated in getting schools to serve healthier lunches, as part to reduce
childhood obesity within these neighborhoods. Studies done in the past have shown that limited
access to healthy food and rather easier access to less nutritious food may be linked to poor diets
and, ultimately, to obesity and diet related diseases. Even when these food deserts do have access
to nearby convenience stores, it tends to be either overpriced or low quality food, which carry
mostly processed foods that offer little to no nutritional value, when compared to the food and
products that supermarkets have to offer. Adding on to this, those who depend on food stamps also
have limited options when it comes to nutritious food. This makes it even harder for these people
to live a healthy affordable

Spare tires can be used as a makeshift fix so that the driver can safely make it to a repair shop.

closely may lead to personal injury, damage to your vehicle, or can cause an accident on the road. If
you are in doubt whether or not you can handle the tutorial, call a professional or a towing

in the average emergency car kit, but some parts need to be purchased extra. A crucial tool to the
process is a car jack. This will hold the car up while you are working. Also, some form of a
wrench to tighten and loosen the lug nuts will be necessary. There are many options for this,
such as a pneumatic or hydraulic powered wrench. However, since this tutorial is focused mainly
on emergency situations, the most common form of wrench is called a tire iron. Most hardware

Cave Paintings Essay
Creating art is one of the single defining factors that set humans apart from animal species.
Through art, humans are able to express their innermost ideas and feelings, without having the
difficulty of trying to find the correct words to accurately describe their thought processes. Works
of art can help us to understand the people who have come before us. This is evidenced by the
knowledge humans have discovered of prehistoric men and their symbolic cave paintings. The
expression, style, and meaning vary and archaeologists put in much effort to uncover these works.

It is often found to be extremely animalistic. The animals most commonly depicted are horses,
deer, reindeer, bison, ipex, aurochs, woolly rhinoceroses, and mammoths. Sometimes lions and
bears are also created, but rarely fish or birds. Humans were also commonly represented
(Berenguer 73). Prehistoric men also created abstract designs that have proven hard to identify.
They are referred to as signs and a special nomenclature has been developed to better understand
their meaning. Tectiforms are generally quadrangular shapes, with crossing vertical lines inside
forming a trellis or mesh design. Tectiforms often appear near naturalistic figures of animals.
Scutiforms have been thought to represent the female vulva. They are formed by red patches,
often in the form of a comma or a key. Other types of signs are penniforms, ramiforms, and
claviforms. The exact meanings of most of these signs remain unknown (Berenguer 82). The
French scholar Leroi Gourhan formed a theory regarding the animalistic and abstract art
representations. He believed all depictions revolved around the law of sex, noting that the
philosophy of the prehistoric men concentrated all explanations on sex and sexual relations. Cave
art depictions of animals are divided into male and female. The male animals are horses, she goats,
and deer. Bison, bovidae, and mammoths are female. The signs are also divided into gender
categories. Triangles, rectangles, ramiforms, tectiforms, and scutiforms are

organizations is the Tea Party and their movement. The Tea Party movement is an effective

According to the official website for the Tea Party movement, it was formed randomly in 2009 from

One reason the Tea Party movement is an effective political force in our society is because it is
respectable, meaning others take it more seriously than other political forces. Kim Geiger of the
Los Angeles Times writes that sixty members of the House of Representatives are apart of the
movement. She also states that the average net worth of the House of Representatives in 2010
was $755,000 and that the average net worth of the 60 Tea Party members in the House is $1.8

much respect they receive from others, but they are also very wealthy, which adds to their respect
that much more. The Tea Party movement is also respectable because it has received praise from
other political figures in society who are viewed as respectable. In an interview with Piers Morgan
on CNN, Rudy Giuliani said the members of the Tea Party are respectable people (Nick Wing). In
his article from the Huffington Post, Wing also says that Giuliani even endorsed a Tea Party
member who was a Republican candidate for Senate in Florida. Although Giuliani may not be a

Strengths And Weaknesses Of North And South
Strengths and Weaknesses of North and South The Civil War was the bloodiest war in American
history. America was split into two sides that had strengths and weaknesses against each other. It
seemed they were the complete opposite. The North had more factories and railroads, while the
South had more farms. Politics had a strong part to play too. The North had a better government,
while the South struggled to form one. Finally, the North had a larger army throughout the war. The
first major part of the North was economics. They had more factories, rails, and money than the
South. The North manufactured 90 percent of American goods (Davidson and Stoff pg 488). When

These actions caused several anti war groups to emerge. Groups such as radical republicans and
the Copperheads became secret antigovernment societies, such as, the Knights of the Golden
Circle. These groups caused a stir of trouble for the North s unity (Guelzo). The third major part
of the North was their military. The Union had a larger population, and there for, they had a
larger army. They also had more guns and rails to move supplies and troops to the front lines.
They even had a better navy than the South, and were able to successfully blockade Southern
trading ports, cutting off European trade (Davidson and Stoff pg 488). There were some slight
issues, however, with the army. For one, the North wasn t as united as the South. While the
Confederacy fought for their way of life, the North fought for politicians (Confederate States).
They were also fighting in unknown territory. In order to win, they would have to seize control
over a large area of land (Davidson and Stoff pg 488). Finally, the North couldn t find a good
military leader for most of the war. Most of the military colleges were in the South, so the North
was at a huge disadvantage in leadership and skill (Confederate States). As for the South, they
were at a pretty big disadvantage in most areas of their nation. In economics, they had little

All quadrilaterals do, too, for the same reasons triangles do. Since triangles are essentially half of
a quadrilateral, the angles of a quadrilateral always add up to 360. This means that no matter what
sort you choose rhombus, trapezoid, or just a run of the mill square it will tessellate.
When it comes to the tessellation of pentagons, however, things are not so cut and dry. A regular
pentagon will not tessellate, as each of its angles is 108, and 108 x 5=540, meaning five pentagons
would not be able to join at one point. Four pentagons would also be too large to perfectly meet at
a vertex, as 108 x 4=432, and three pentagons would not be large enough, as 108 x 3=324; close,
but no cigar.
However, there are fifteen types of irregular pentagons that have been found to tile the plane. These

Chivalry Compared To Today
Chivalry was designated for knights as a moral code or law for them to abide by, but sadly has
been slowly being brushed under the rug by their following generations. Growing up I was taught
certain aspects of a new hybrid of the Code of Chivalry such as courtesy, honor, humbleness,
respect, and proper manners. Chivalrysince medieval times has slowly dissipated into almost
nothing compared to today. Now I am not suggesting that these traits have been lost indefinitely but
they have certainly minimized. Parents are not teaching their children to be polite or use proper
manners. Those traits are something I would like to thank my father for instilling in myself. I hold
courtesy, honor, humbleness, respect, and proper manners highly because many people respect that.
So how exactly did these values change me? These imperative values changed and... Show more

I honestly am not sure why I do it, I could be exhausted from working five days then go in to help
on my only day off just to be nice. I abide by these rules I set into place to keep myself in check. I
often see people at school or in public who are rude and do not show any respect towards others and
that enrages me. I would never be able to live with myself if I acted like an asinine fool. No one in
return will respect me if I did. I look to showcase myself in the brightest light possible and set an
impressive image for others to look at me as. Using my personal code of chivalry I believe has
really molded me into what I am. I hold my eating utensils properly, keep my elbows off the
table while eating, say please and thank you, help others when given the chance, and reflect
myself in a brighter light. I want to stick out from others to be viewed as a good person. Being
good feels good. It is as simple as that and if I can help others and myself along the way then I
must continue to us my personal code of

The Compromise Of The Declaration Of Independence Essay
It was a Thursday in 1776; the Second Continental Congress was meeting to sign the Declaration
of Independence. In the very words of the document, Americans agreed to the ideas that all men
were created equal with unalienable rights; among these were Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of
Happiness. The young country, even though there were different opinions and ideas had
compromised for the betterment of all Americans. Compromise; the definition is the agreement
or settlement of a dispute that is reached by each side making concessions. The country had
extensive opportunities to compromise on laws, territories, societies, and industrializations. By
1860, the sense of compromise started to disappear, and America stood on the verge of
monumental discord. The Compromise of 1820 brought both sides of the slavery debate to an
agreement. In 1819, Missouri proposed to join the Union as a slave state. If Missouri joined as a
slave state, this would teeter the balance in the House of Representatives with a greater number
of pro slavery Congressman. In the compromise, Congress initiated a two part plan; to admit
Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state and a new boundary line was drawn at longitude
36в—¦ 30 through the former Louisiana Territory separating free and slave states.1 The compromise
settled each side for a time, but the sectional and political conflicts continued to escalate.
Consequently, after the Mexican American War (1846 1848), the country needed

For Many Years, Romanticism Dominated English Literature,
For many years, Romanticism dominated English literature, and consequently American literature,
as American writers were heavily influenced by the English. Writers like Poe and Hawthorne were
leaders in this form of literature. As thinking changed scientifically, philosophically and spiritually,
so did literature. Mark Twains Huckleberry Finn showed American culture in a way it had never
been shown, and in doing so became arguably the most famous piece of realist literature. His novel
exemplifies the rejection of romantic ideals. Realism started in France, as the rejection of the
popular romantic novels. While romantic novels were usually overly dramatic and emotional,
realist novels were objective and without a touch of personal... Show more content on

He shows the other characters personalities for what they really are, He just gives details of what
he sees, giving the reader a realistic view.
Huck s literalness and practicality sometimes make it difficult for him to even play and fantasize
the way children do. For example, Tom; a very romantic character, starts a gang with the local
boys.Tom says the gang must sign a blood oath, and if they leave the gang their whole family
must be murdered. He talks about how the gang will be highwaymen, robbing and killing caravans
as they pass by. Huck, being the realistic character he is, takes this completely literal. The gang
conducts a raid on what Tom said was a huge meeting between Spanish merchants and Rich A rabs;
when it turns out to be a sunday school picnic, Huck is disappointed. Tom then convinces Huck that
Genies had made the whole thing disappear, he then tells Huck how to get conjure the Genie. Huck
tries, and reaction shows his realist personality and his reluctance to trust superstition So then I
judged that all that stuff was only just one of Tom Sawyer s lies. I reckoned he believed in the A
rabs and the elephants, but as for me I think different. It had all the marks of a Sunday school.
(Twain, 1884, p. 115, lines 3 5).
Huck deals with many hardships in his life, which is a very real concept, as everything is not
always perfect and easy. His hardships include a dead mother and a drunken father.

  • 2. Analyzing 50 s And 60s American Society Through Music Analyzing 50 s and 60s American society through music The two songs that I am going to analyze Is Nina Simone To Be Young, Gifted and Black, and Gil Scott Heron Whitey on the Moon . I will view both of these songs in terms of there contributions to the counter hegemonic force fighting against the dominant white supremacist ideology that was prevalent during the 50 s and 60 s. To give some quick context about Nina Simone, she was a genuine musical artist who routinely recorded music that ranged across tunes from all genres. The greatest of these was To Be Young, Gifted and Black, which Simone composed with her new protГ©gГ© Weldon Irvine, a youthful jazz artist and arranger of musicals, whose frightful verses paid tribute to the late civil rights activist Lorraine Hansberry, who fought bravely for the rights of all Americans before her unfourtanate death. Nina Simone had noticed that the moral of black Americans was destroyed by the way that the dominant ideology of white supremacy which had successfully sold the idea that all races that were not White were inferior, low class citizens who should accept there roles and deal with it. She acted as a counter hegemonic force that challenged the way blacks were thought to view themselves for what they really are, valuable, talented, and gifted human beings just like the Anglos were. Gil Scott Heron sang the lyric Whitey on the Moon in 1970 reacting to Neil Armstrong s outing to the moon. In the ballad, Scott Heron grapples ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Originally, MHPAEA applied only to group health plans and group health insurance coverage, but was amended by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to also apply to individual health insurance coverage (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, para 2). • 4. Bourgeoisie Vs Proletariat Analysis Marx identified two social classes which are the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. The bourgeoisie owned the product, and the means of production are distribution and the profit. Then, there is the proletariat also known as laborers these are the people that typically did not have the resources to invest in mass production. The only thing they could sell was their labor. Marx was a staunch supporter of the proletariat. He believed that the proletariat gains let up last much in a capitalist system, and all the bourgeoisie benefited a great deal. He thought that the proletariat would eventually overthrow the bourgeoisie, and a new economic system would create. Marx believed that society needed a better means of distributing wealth but also a better way of tapping into a full humanpotential. According to Marx what we do is directly connected to... • 5. Compare and Contrast Communism, Socialism, and Capitalism What is communism? Communism is a term used broadly to designate a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state. It refers to the doctrine which underlines the revolutionary movement which aims to abolish capitalism and ultimately to establish a society in which all goods will be socially owned, all economic activates socially planned and controlled, and in which all distributions will be in accordance with the maxim. German author Emil Ludwig described the maxim as for each according to his capacity, to each according to his need. It aims to achieve an equitable and efficient distribution of social goods and greater economic planning then exist under capitalism. Although the central concerns of socialism appears to be economic its ramifications extend to the moral, social and political realms, in fact together with nationalism, it is the leading ideological and political movement of the 20th century. It is considered to be the transitional phase between the capitalism and communism. Thus, you would find all communists advocating for socialism because it lays the foundations for communism. It advocates an egalitarian society where everyone shares equal wealth and power. There is a considerable disagreement over how the distribution should take place. Hence, socialism can be said to be between extreme capitalism and extreme communism with it being nearer to communism. Socialism is liberal. More people have say in how the economy works. Vapor Pressure The properties of freezing point, boiling point, vapor pressure, and osmotic pressure are properties that can be manipulated based on the ratio of a solute in a solution compared to the pure solvent. A pure solvent is generally a liquid compound that has the ability to dissolve other materials chemically. Decreased freezing point is the temperature at which the solution or solvent becomes solid, leaving the solute behind. The boiling point is how much it takes for the pressure of the water to become more than the atmospheric pressure or when the vapor pressure of the liquid becomes greater than the atmospheric pressure. A colligative property is the property of a solution that differs from the solute when an ionic compound is added to the solute and it depends on the ratio of dissolved particles to the solvent in a solution. Colligative properties are properties of a solvent and change with the presence of a solute, but these are properties that are independent of what the solvent and solute are. Freezing point is the temperature at which the solution or solvent becomes solid. An example of freezing point property in action is when salt is added to water and is spread on ice, causing the water and the ice to have a lower freezing point. As seen when brine is applied to roadways, the solvent water, when combined with the solute salt, the freezing point is lowered. The boiling point property is demonstrated when the pressure of the water becomes more than the atmospheric pressure, or when the vapor pressure of a liquid becomes greater than the atmospheric pressure in a closed environment. An example of ionic compounds in boiling would be to add salt to water when boiling water for cooking pasta. When the salt is added, the boiling point becomes higher, which in turn creates the potential to cook the pasta at a higher temperature to save time. Vapor pressure is the amount of pressure that is applied by the vapor in the air or in a contained environment on the substance from which it came. An example of vapor ... Human Social Perception Of Social Psychology Human Social Perception in Empirical Literature Human social perception is area of study within social psychology that involves the complex cognitive system that is personal to each individual. Since each person has a unique cognitive system, interpretation of social situations is unique to each individual. The differences in cognition and perception between different people allows for varied interpretations, accurate perceptions, and misperceptions. Social perception is an interesting topic that has been largely researched by a multitude of social psychologists. The goal of this paper is to provide a brief description of social psychology, a summary of social perception, some of its forms and uses, misperception, and accuracy in perception. Brief Description of Social Psychology Social psychology is the scientific field that focuses on the individual within society. Due to this individualistic focus, people are often studied experimentally within or in relation to social environments. Social psychology studies the effects of social processes and cognitive processes on the way individuals perceive, influence, and relate to others, in a systematic way, using scientific methods (Smith Mackie, 2007). Due to the complexity of the human body and mind, social psychology is a vast field that has been explored by many experts. As social creatures, people interact constantly within an environment that requires complex cognitive and perceptual processes. As a result, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He published the schematics and his speculations about future improvements in his Horologium in 1658. While this solved the problem of keeping time, one of the most important applications of this technology continually evaded him. In order to reliably determine ones latitude while at sea, some form of accurate timekeeping is needed. Huygens spherical light waves propagated in a longitudinal fashion, and thus must necessarily have a medium through which to propagate. Huygens envisioned this ether was composed of tiny, closely spaced, elastic particles, which vibrate and pass on the waves of light (Charles). However, not all of Huygens contemporaries agreed with his formulation of the wave nature of light. Isaac Newton, in particular, was a vocal opponent of his theory in favor of his own corpuscular theory of light. Huygens, as stated in his Ebscohost Biography: ...regarded the transmission of such particles through empty space to be mere Newtonian action at a distance again and incompatible with a mechanistic view of nature . The other method uses HBr to produce 3,4 methylenedioxyphenyl 2 bromopropane which is then converted into MDA or MDMA. This scheme produces poor yields, and Dal Cason referenced the australian journal _ANALOG_ where a hazard had been documented. It is, however, attractive for its sheer simplicity. As part of her Let s Move! campaign, Michelle Obama was a huge advocate for this and aimed on eliminating food deserts within seven years in the United States (Corapi). To achieve this goal, accurate definitions and the identification of the numerous fooddeserts are certainly required. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), food deserts are areas that lack access to affordable fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low fat milk, and other foods that make up a full and healthy diet (CDC Features). She was referring to the food deserts in the several low income neighborhoods within the city of Chicago. Mrs. Obama has also advocated in getting schools to serve healthier lunches, as part to reduce childhood obesity within these neighborhoods. Studies done in the past have shown that limited access to healthy food and rather easier access to less nutritious food may be linked to poor diets and, ultimately, to obesity and diet related diseases. Even when these food deserts do have access to nearby convenience stores, it tends to be either overpriced or low quality food, which carry mostly processed foods that offer little to no nutritional value, when compared to the food and products that supermarkets have to offer. Through art, humans are able to express their innermost ideas and feelings, without having the difficulty of trying to find the correct words to accurately describe their thought processes. The animals most commonly depicted are horses, deer, reindeer, bison, ipex, aurochs, woolly rhinoceroses, and mammoths. Sometimes lions and bears are also created, but rarely fish or birds. Humans were also commonly represented (Berenguer 73). Prehistoric men also created abstract designs that have proven hard to identify. They are referred to as signs and a special nomenclature has been developed to better understand their meaning. Tectiforms are generally quadrangular shapes, with crossing vertical lines inside forming a trellis or mesh design. Tectiforms often appear near naturalistic figures of animals. Scutiforms have been thought to represent the female vulva. They are formed by red patches, often in the form of a comma or a key. Other types of signs are penniforms, ramiforms, and claviforms. The exact meanings of most of these signs remain unknown (Berenguer 82). The French scholar Leroi Gourhan formed a theory regarding the animalistic and abstract art representations. He believed all depictions revolved around the law of sex, noting that the philosophy of the prehistoric men concentrated all explanations on sex and sexual relations. Cave art depictions of animals are divided into male and female. The male animals are horses, she goats, and deer. Bison, bovidae, and mammoths are female. This means that no matter what sort you choose rhombus, trapezoid, or just a run of the mill square it will tessellate. When it comes to the tessellation of pentagons, however, things are not so cut and dry. A regular pentagon will not tessellate, as each of its angles is 108, and 108 x 5=540, meaning five pentagons would not be able to join at one point. Four pentagons would also be too large to perfectly meet at a vertex, as 108 x 4=432, and three pentagons would not be large enough, as 108 x 3=324; close, but no cigar. In the very words of the document, Americans agreed to the ideas that all men were created equal with unalienable rights; among these were Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. The young country, even though there were different opinions and ideas had compromised for the betterment of all Americans. Compromise; the definition is the agreement or settlement of a dispute that is reached by each side making concessions. The country had extensive opportunities to compromise on laws, territories, societies, and industrializations. By 1860, the sense of compromise started to disappear, and America stood on the verge of monumental discord. The Compromise of 1820 brought both sides of the slavery debate to an agreement. In 1819, Missouri proposed to join the Union as a slave state. If Missouri joined as a slave state, this would teeter the balance in the House of Representatives with a greater number of pro slavery Congressman.
