White Elephants Are Like An Abortion
White Elephants are like an Abortion
As we know conceiving a child is a life changing experience; indeed, it can sometimes be a good or
a bad experience. In the story Hills like White Elephants, Hemingway s unnamed American male
dominates the weaker sexed Jig Rankin. Throughout the story the American man is trying to
convince the pregnant Jig to abort their baby. They are discussing a life and death situation, literally
for the unborn child, and figuratively for their relationship. There are many themes that help make
the story very intriguing. A few of the themes in the short storyare courage, domination, addiction,
and communication.
The courage in the story comes from our character Jig. It seems that she is brave enough to go
through with the pregnancy while the American man is too selfish and afraid, saying things like
But I don t want anybody but you. I don t want anyone else. (478) He cannot face up to the change
and challenge that life brings them. The man is very persistent in opposing of Jig s maternity, he
even contradicts himself, calling the abortion first an awfully simple operation, and then not really
an operation at all (476). Here and elsewhere, there are many modifiers like really and awfully that
indicate that the man is not willing to take on this baby. We perceive other attributes directly from
Jig though. As she demonstrates a hesitant demeanor to abort the baby, she also shows her
knowledge of the man s self centered and insecure

Advertising Influences And Growth Of Advertising
Advertising influences and growth
An industry that is growing and becoming more common around the globe is the advertising
industry. As this industry grows however there are insecurities and they are tracking people s
actions online and gaining an abundance of information on people. In game advertisements
appear on free games or applications that the user has on their phones and a valid solution to this
problem is in game rewards. The advertisement industry gets bigger each day and in game
advertisements are getting more adaptive to the user s preferences. Many developers are making it
their mission to give equal advantage to the user to earn some in game rewards for watching their
advertisement while they play their favorite game on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was greatly adapted in the 1950 s and has moved onwards, becoming more common in the
present. Subliminal advertising largely started in movie theaters, where in cinemas they would
strew messages saying drink Coca Cola (Sheehan, K. B. 2013). The drink Coca Cola was a phrase
that would appear on the screen during the start of the movies and during the intermission and it
would subconsciously impulse the viewer to buy Coca Cola from the food court. Coming into the
future this method is used in videogames where while playing you are met with company logos
upon starting the game and thereafter shown products from other companies that are placed within
the game. Some of the oldest advertisements that appear are from canned beverage companies and
now newcomers such as car companies are coming into play, all the while polluting our screens
with more subliminal advertising. The introduction of subliminal advertisements into video games
has become the next step for many companies taking advantage of a person getting engulfed in the
game screen in front of them. In relative concept, companies are taking advantage of the real estate
that is your television or your computer and even your mobile phone to get you to buy their
products.
Advertising is the best method for businesses to convey their products to the consumers because
they make it look good through their eyes. The internet is being used to advertise also as

Application Materials For Recruitment Of Ethnic Minority...
Dr. Martha Bernal focused not only on younger children, but students ages 18 and up who were
looking at potential colleges. She conducted a study to show that the pictures and information
provided in school packet materials mailed to prospective students had a large impact on the
likelihood of them contacting the school for more information. The article titled Use of Application
Materials for Recruitment of Ethnic MinorityStudents in Psychologyquestioned on page 818
whether these packets are equally effective in recruiting ethnic minority applicants (Bernal, Barron
Leary, 1983) as they are in attracting white applicants. The hypothesis explored the idea that
programs which stated a higher proportion of ethnic minority grad students would be judged as
having a higher chance of recruiting ethnic minorities. Specifically, Dr. Martha Bernal explored
how clinical psychology programs in the United Statesdisplayed diversity within the packets mailed
out to prospective students.
The set up involved mailing out a letter to 107 programs offered across the US which were
accredited at the time, in which a fictitious student requested brochures and other materials about
the clinical program offered, as well as materials on the number of minorities within the program
itself. Interestingly, the fictitious girl named Ana Acres did not state her ethnicity or race, allowing
the schools to send out information based on their own judgement and not the preconceived
judgement of her

Inclusion In Special Education
Students across America with special needs have been integrated into classrooms with populations
of general education students. This integration of students with special needs and students in
general education is called inclusion. Inclusion is no longer an option for schools to choose or not
choose. Federal law now requires the inclusion of all students with special needs if that placement is
the least restrictive environment.
Public Law 94 142, which states that education will be provided to all handicapped children, was
enacted to prevent discrimination that was considered wide spread (Elliott et McKenney, 1998). An
amendment to this act in 1990, titled Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), stated that
the education of that person would include all academic areas, as well as the vocational and
technical areas of education (Cronis Ellis, 2000). Many high school instructors believe that the
process of including students with special needs into general education classes demonstrates
reverse discrimination for general education students. Some feel that there is a failure to meet the
needs of either regular or special education students (Winzer, 1998, p. 2). Because inclusion causes
a change in how educators teach and students learn, it becomes important to analyze the effects of
inclusion on the general education students to best serve both populations.
Teachers struggle with the concept of inclusion for a variety of reasons. Some feel that the students

Prosocial Behavior And The Human Existence
The human existence is one that for the most part stays unexplained. As soon as we find a way to
explain why we do what we do, it takes a very small amount of time before someone has another
explanation that is accepted. An example of this is prosocial behavior. Prosocial behavior is simply
the act of doing something that benefits a person or people around you. This behavior can be
interestingly mapped all throughout humanhistory with different motivations along the way.
From a religious perspective, humans have a willingness and duty instilled in them by a creator
to help out their fellow man. This is evident in the Bible with the story of The Good Samaritan
where a man was beaten close to death and left in the street and the only person that stopped to
help him was a man that despised the type of person he was. Why would he stop? From an
evolutionary perspective, it would be logical to assume that the earliest humans benefitted from
having each other around as a protection and survival source but also for a foundation for
emotional support. We are obviously not wired to go through this world alone. Both of these
positions prove the existence of a natural prosocial behavior, but they still leave open the idea of
why and how it occurs when there is no apparent incentive for helping.
The act of helping someone for no other reason than to help them is called altruism. For the sake of
traveling through this concept with the largest picture in mind, we have to forget about

Advantages Of NIMS
The National Incident Management System (NIMS) brings many advantages to the all hazard
incident to streamline practices before, during and after an event. Comprised of five main
components that strengthen its overall effectiveness in an all hazards environment are
preparedness, communications, resource management, command and management and the ongoing
management and maintenance (Broder Tucker, 2012). Furthermore, NIMS provides a standardized
method that can be applied to all hazards, regardless of their size and jurisdiction. First and
foremost, NIMS provides a standardized approach that helps emergency responders work together
to prevent and respond to events by utilizing the fore mentioned predetermined components. Each
of these components contributes to the overall effort to mitigate or the response to a disaster.
However, NIMS is not a standalone system; it receives guidance from the National Response
Framework (NRF) doctrine, the Incident... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, NIMS sets the standards for the nation, emergency professionals and the communities
before and during a disaster.
Therefore, NIMS is a living system that provides guidance on how to proceed before, during and
after an event by establishing a command and control structure to manage the disaster. Seemingly, it
offers a roadmap to prevent or respond to threats and incidents regardless of its size and complexity
through the use of its components, NFR and relying on the use of the Incident Command System
(Broder Tucker, 2012).
Conceived from lessons learned, NIMS applies these lessons to continue to improve its processes
from past events to save lives and property in the future. NIMS is cumbersome in size, but does
provide guidance, precedents and a means to recover from the

Birth Control Of The Pill
When choosing a type of hamburger, one is given a menu with different types of flavors to choose
from. Just like the hamburger menu, there are many types of contraceptives a woman is able to
take into consideration for use. It may not be as easy to choose one, but it all comes down to the
one that suits them the most. One of the most common used birth controlby women is the oral pill.
This birth control pill is a medication that women take daily to prevent pregnancy. Birth control
pills undoubtedly arise confusion as to how they work. Even with all the birth control confusion, the
pills are the safest birth control compared to the Depo Provera shot, IUD, and birth control implant.
Birth control pills were developed in the 1950s, and were first approved by the FDA in 1960 (
Birth Control ). The birth control pills are made of two hormones estrogen and progestin.
Hormones are chemicals that are made in our bodies. The hormones in the pill work by keeping
eggs from leaving the ovaries. Recently birth control pills have changed and include less
hormones and other positive side effects. Some of these effects include, lighter periods, which
reduce risk of anemia, less severe cramps during menstrual cycles and lessening of acne
breakouts. This, however, is only helpful for females who do not smoke. The pill does carry
some health risks. For example, women over the age of 35 and that smoke or have medical

1993: Matrix Organization according to product and region Continental organization
1998: Product oriented sector based organization
2001: Customer oriented sector based organization
In 1993, the Group was organized on the one hand on a product oriented basis into four corporate
divisions with a total of some 50 business areas and on the other hand on an area oriented basis
into three geographic regions with 1,300 legally independent companies and a total of some 5,000

The weaknesses of the matrix system were found in the areas of authority and chain of command
that led to ambiguity and increased costs. Likewise, ABB encountered problems in its matrix
structure and had difficulty materializing its goals at the global level
Major restructuring and changes in its top management corporate retrenchment; significant
corporate changes that led to unloading the company s financial services and oil and gas
divisions. The company s performance turned into losses. Cancellations of projects that led to
heavy losses and downsizing were the end result. ABB could not recover from the East Asian
crisis and saw its revenues dry up in the region that led to a total loss of over $1 billion in 2001
/2002.
CEO salaries and their exorbitant pension benefits have been severely criticized by the media. This
was major negative publicity for the company when it lost over $500 million during the same
period.
ABB allocated $1.2 billion to deal with these claims. In 2003, in the U.S. alone, 90.000 new
asbestos claims were filed raising the corporate liability to U.S. plaintiffs about $200

Using Furniture Or Adult For Support
By one year old they are beginning to crawl or shuffle, pulling or pushing on furniture to stand
and then cruise using furniture or adult for support. Sitting has progressed to unaided and they
are rolling from their front to their back. They are beginning to be inquisitive with objects,
passing them between hands, handling them in different ways and looking for things that are
hiding. Their hand to eye co ordination improves as items are passed from hand to hand. Their
first teeth may start to appear and solid foods may start to be introduced. Between one and two
years walking will begin and toys will start to be pulled/pushed along whilst walking. Objects
will be picked up and banged together or built to make a small tower. A preference for one hand
may start to appear as they begin to hold crayons etc when mark making on paper. They enjoy
trying to feed themselves both with finger foods and with a spoon, and will drink from a cup with
both hands. Waving goodbye becomes fun, they will begin to point to what they want and shake
their head to mean †̃noâ€TM. At 4 years boys gross motor skills tend to be more
developed when it comes to throwing and aiming, building, climbing, pedalling etc, whereas
girls fine motor skills tend to be more developed with the use of scissors, holding a pencil to draw
and colour threading small beads sewing stitches etc. At 5 years children will have more pencil

The Importance Of Forest Depletion In Nepal
Forest Area: 33.7% 25.4% (1990 2015). The forest area has decreased due to increased
deforestation and a risk of forest fires in Nepal.
Finland has supported Nepal s forestry initiatives since the 80s, and it includes large scale
preparation, plantation and implementation of Forestry Sector Master Plan (1988 2011), support to
Community Forestry and Leasehold Forestry Programs, Scientific Forest Management initiatives,
National Forest Resource Inventories and others.
Physiologically, the country is divided into five regions, according to altitude (the Terai, the
Siwalik, the Middle Mountains, the High Mountains and the High Himal). Of the total land
area, forests cover 4.27 million ha (29.0 percent) and shrub covers 1.56 million ha (10.6 percent)
(DFRS 1999). The annual rate of forest depletion in the Terai was 1.3 percent from 1978/79 to
1990/91. In the hilly area, forest areas have declined at an annual rate of 2.3 percent from 1978
/79 to 1994. In the entire country, from 1978 79 to 1994, the forest area has decreased at an
annual rate of 1.7%. This trend indicates the ongoing pressure on forest resources, especially in the

Essay on Serial Killers
Serial Killers
Serial killers kill because of three patterns we see develop throughout their lives. These patterns are
the development of youthful characteristics and habits, abusing events in their lives, and the final
push. To be qualified as a serial killer one must murder more than three victims, one at a time, in a
relatively short time period. The most common serial killers are white, heterosexual, sexually
frustrated, young adult males with low self esteem. Lester Ballard, the main character in Child of
God, by Cormac McCarthy, displays these patterns as I have found it described in texts on serial
killers.
The earliest warning signs of serial killers can be traced back to their childhood. It is ... Show more

Many of these behaviors individually are expected of children. Some on the other hand, such as
self mutilation, cruelty to children, and convulsions, are not and are quite shocking to us. Lester
Ballard displays many of these symptoms in the novel. For example as a child, Lester lost a
softball and forced a younger boy to go get it by punching him in the face.
The top three most reported behaviors are daydreaming, compulsive masturbation, and isolation.
Daydreaming seems like a healthy, normal phase in every child s life, but this behavior actually
makes sense for serial killers. The reason is that one of the most important components to the
creation of a serial killer is fantasy. The killings are usually part of a complicated fantasy that
builds to a climax at the moment of their deadly outburst (Serial Killer Info Polls). The creation of
this fantasy starts as a child when the child is frequently left alone for long periods of time. This
isolation bores the child and they resort to their minds for company. We can all remember the days
of imagining our knight in shining armor coming to the rescue, or pretending to have immense
strength, like the Incredible Hulk or Superman, to help them escape from any situation. In the cases
of serial killers this fantasy/daydream world has been taken to an extreme. Masturbation begins
during these fantasies and contributes much to the

The Necessity For An Alternative Toy For Girls

to give a little girl? A doll or perhaps the most popular doll the Barbie. Many people s first instinct
to give a little girl for a toy is a Barbie doll. But, why does many believe that a Barbie doll is the
most appropriate toyfor young girls? Throughout history parents and others are influenced by the
media that Barbie dolls make the best gift for girls. Despite the fact that many girls play with

Another study found that playing with block or another building kit helps promote spatial skills
as well as early mathematical skills. In addition, other studies found that other toys also boost
creativity and helps children to imagine. This is all evidence that toys influence children in
several ways and that Barbie dolls have a negative effect on girls. As a result, parents and other
relatives are responsible in buying toys that have a wide variety of benefits for girls. There are
many toys that help boost creativity and imagination in young children. Legos and other toys that
are made for creating which assists children in developing their creativity and imagination. For
example, in the toy advice literature, one finds that a creative toy encourages imagination,
improvisation, problem solving, fantasy, and pretending (McClary 62). Toys such as Legos
encourages children to use their imagination to build and create various buildings and things.

Essay on Point Clear, Alabama
For many, the quaint town of Point Clear, Alabama represents the Old South rooted in tradition,
charm, and grace. Halfway down the bay and nearly hidden among oaks adorned with Spanish

the Civil War, perpetuates the memories of its residents, and evolves as a greater and better

San Joaquin County Pesticides
Pesticides: Application Good OR Bad?
San Joaquin County is known for its heavy usage of pesticides and is one of the 15 counties in
California that has been labeled for using heavy amounts of these chemicals. Pesticides are a
chemical based spray that is used upon crops of fields to prevent damage to the crops being

Against The Assault Of Laughter Nothing Can Stand
Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand. Samuel Clemens
Samuel Langhorne Clemens, also known as Mark Twain, was born November 30, 1835, in
Florida, Missouri, the sixth of seven children. An American writer, journalist, and humorist, he is
remembered for the novels surrounding the world beside the Mississippi River, The Adventures of
Tom Sawyer (1876) and always legendary Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884). Clemens was
lauded the greatest American humorist of his age and William Faulkner called Twain the father of
American literature .

Redding, CT, estate. See Twain with who are believed to be his daughters, Clara and Jean. This is
the only known footage of Twain. Experts believe the film is reversed.
When he was four, the Clemens family moved to Hannibal, Missouri. The place and the times
later served as Clemen s inspiration for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn. As a young man, he worked as a typesetter before launching off on his dream
of navigating the Mississippi River on paddle wheel steamboats. He piloted boats for three years
until the outbreak of the Civil War stopped river traffic in 1861. Clemens went on to serve as a
volunteer in the Confederate army for a few weeks before deserting to join his brother, Orion,
whose abolitionist views had secured him the position of territorial secretary in

A Brief Look at the Gesture
The gesture
Gesture is the natural, nonverbal way that human can use to communicate with each other, and
recently interface with computers and devices in order to have control upon them besides
conventional input devices such as keyboard, mouse, and joystick. In general, gestures can be
categorized into static and dynamic.
A static gesture refers to the position and poses of hand without any movement, which can be
represented by a single image.
A dynamic gesture describes the hand movement, which can be determined through a set of
successive images or video frames (3D Hand Gesture Recognition Based on Sensor Fusion of
Commodity Hardware).
2.3.2 Data acquisition
This stage is responsible for acquiring and collecting gestures from the human (usually hand
gestures). There are many technologies that can be used to acquire and capture the gestures, and
then convert them into a digital form (Sensors for Gesture Recognition Systems) in order to be
understandable by digital devices. These technologies vary in terms of capability and accuracy to
get the gestures. The following are some technologies used for gestures acquisition.
A.Cameras: are the main gesture captured technologies used in vision based gesture recognition
systems. There are different types of cameras such as color stereo cameras (using two cameras to
obtain a left and right stereo image), 2D cameras, 3D cameras, and thermal cameras. These cameras
can be used to capture human gestures and send them to

Ethnic Identity And Cultural Beliefs
Introduction: Around Twelve thousand years ago, human beings learn basic agriculture and animal
domestication. This allowed a human being to create societies which allowed ethnic groups to
emerge. An ethnic group is a group of people that share similar ancestry, physical traits, customs and
cultures with each other. A person s ethnicityis important to their identity since they grew up
learning about their ancestry s past and culture in order to understand social interaction and
behavior. Culture s is subunit to a Person s ethnicity since it is the knowledge, beliefs, and customs
of the ethnic groups history and experience. It influences a individual to speak a certain language,
eat a specific diet, and practice a religion that is important to their region. It can also help explain
why a person wears a specific design of clothing or interacts differently with people of the
opposite sex since culture shapes an individual s social behavior. It is a key block to a person s
identity since it allows individuals to connect to a community that has been practicing and
spreading it since its conception. Many countries today, such the United States, are home to dozens
of ethnic groups and their culture. I have been exposing too many ethnic groups and their cultures
while growing up in Orange County but I never realize their importance in our daily lives until I
started to take ethnic studies courses in the community college. That is where I begin to appreciate

Tiananmen Analysis
Zach Cowburn
April 18, 2016
The Reach of Tiananmen Throughout history we have seen staggered periods of rising global
democracy. Specifically The third wave is seen as a time of soviet communist satellites and curtain
countries turning democratic. We see great success in democratization in the more western
European former soviet states. Often times these transitions were remarkably peaceful as in the
many colored revolutions. One case that stands out as an example of a failure to democratize is
within China. With many communist states questioning their governance it was natural for Chinese
citizens to express these same idea concerns. What we see though instead of the European style
peaceful transition is a small scale political movement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the administration inaction was a sign of weakness and of bending to the rebellion at hand.
For almost all of China s civilized history the people have been ruled by an authoritarian empire or
governance. This sort of lax attitude would not be tolerated by the political elite traditionalists. The
protestors and world knew the government would clear the square eventually. They managed to
occupy the square for the famous visit of Mikhail Gorbachev and for some time after. With what
ended up in a virtual standoff between entrenched protestors and the army there was few options
left for trying to effectively run a country with its capital square shut down. Many of the protestors
as well as Chai Ling thought the army would only beat the protestors and use plastic bullets. This
thought while valid in context of rationalized response in a liberal democracy environment does not
fit the political landscape in which the students were involved in. The government considered the
occupation a rebellion and those involved potential enemies of state who escalated the non violent
protests that Tiananmen Square stood for into fire bomb battles with the army. The students did not
understand the position they put themselves in. Due to the lack of leadership there was no defined

Perks Of Being An Au Pair
One of the perks of being an Au Pair is the ability to visit other cities and landmarks in your host
country. Along with that, you can meet up with other Au Pairs, share your experiences and make
new friends.
A couple weekends ago, I met up with an Au Pair from France and we visited the Civita di
Bagnoregio, shown below. It is an old Italian city with a few hundred inhabitants and tourist shops
inside. To get to it, you have to walk up a long bridge, which is also shown in the picture.
At the other end of the city is a trail and at the bottom of the trail is an orange fence. If you are
lucky enough, that fence could be down and you can walk over it and follow the trail to a small
tunnel underneath the city. You can walk through that tunnel and down another trail that goes to the
bottom of the mountain. It s a lot of fun if you like hiking!

Tort Law For Tort Law
The duty of care is a fundamental legal principle of tort law. Tort law is central to the Canadian
legal system and it provides compensation for the grieving person who was damaged by the
wrongdoing of another person. For example, if a physical education teacher allows students to play
on a construction site for physical educationthe teacher is negligent. The teacher owes her students
a duty to take care of them and by allowing them to play in a construction site she breaches that
duty and may be found negligent and liable for damages. Further, the school board who
employees the teacher may also be liable, vicarious liability which will be explained in question
Part C #7). The precedent has been set for teachers by the Supreme Court of Canada in the case
of Thornton et al v. Board of School Trustees (Prince George,1975) when it found that the teacher
owes a higher level of care than a careful parent. Similarly, in the Myers et al v. Peel County Board
of Education (1981) the court found that the teacher owes a higher standard of care than that of a
prudent parent . Further, the Alberta Court of Queen s bench found that the teacher was negligent
when the teacher did not meet the professional standard of care expected of a gymnastics teacher,
which according to the court was the direct cause of the student s paralysis at the school
gymnasium. Only in limited circumstances must people exercise caution if the law does not
recognize any obligation to exercise caution,

Modern day television is entertaining, thrilling, mysterious, and comical. However, morality
forgiveness, honesty, loyalty, patience, kindness is rarely ever considered in any storyline. Whether
the audience is composed of children, teenagers, or adults, most television shows today discuss

March is a valuable novel written by Geraldine Brooks in 2005, which won the Pulitzer in 2006.
The author retells the story of the absent father, Mr. March, in the novel Little Women, written by

Armada Portrait Analysis
Elizabeth I, queen of England, was very strategic in the way she presented herself to the public. In
my short story, The Queen s Decision, Elizabeth s public and private selves are evident and
occasionally contrast with each other, especially during the decision to execute Mary Stuart, Queen
of Scots. Publicly, the Tudor queen had a strong aversion to beheading MaryStuart, but her personal
insights depict hostility to the fellow queen.
Elizabeth sitting on a throne made of silk from Asia, in reference to England s colonial power.
The Armada portrait was a public display to spread a positive image of the queen as propaganda
and to showcase the Tudor queen s strength. Similar to Elizabeth s Armada portrait in which she
places her hand on the globe (particularly North America), Elizabeth is placed directly on colonized
land (Asian silk), portraying England s power over other nations. In this instance, Elizabeth s
publicly demonstrates her power and her physical embodiment of England in a subtle, meaningful
way.
Furthermore, Elizabeth is dressed in a gold and white gown with pearls lining the bodice, inspired
by the Armada portrait again. Dubbed as the virgin queen, white and pearls are both indicative of
virginity and chastity, with gold being symbolic of wealth. Also, pearls are linked with the moon,
an entity that is difficult to reach and having immense influence over others, similar to Elizabeth
herself. Having pearls line the bodice, where the heart and stomach designate the inward seat of
passion, emotion, secret thoughts, affections, or feelings, (OED) illustrates Elizabeth s ability to
restrain her biological urges. Elizabeth s natural body intersects with the body politic, in that her
natural body is utilized to present a political ideal of her being in control.
William Cecil mentions Mary s plots against Elizabeth, notably the three major plots she is
suspected of committing during her imprisonment in England. The Ridofli Plot, The Throgmorton
Plot and the Babington Plot are the three times Mary attempted to kill Elizabeth, with her
involvement in the Babington Plot leading to her execution.
In Elizabeth s letter to William Cecil, April 11, 1572, she doesn t want to rush any irrevocable

The Society Of The United States
Some social behaviors are so ingrained in people s day to day lives that they would never notice
them unless they were pointed out. One such behavior that is so often overlooked is the
preferential treatment that certain groups receive over others. The privileges of the dominate social
groups over the subordinate ones go so unnoticed at times that they are even seen as just innately
how things should be. In the contemporary society of the United States, the group with these
privileges is often White males, and the majorityof them would disagree about that statement.
Surprisingly, the group that gets the most treatment feels the most abused. This only highlights the
obliviousness accompanying those to which this invisible power belongs. However, each person, at
one point, has been advantaged over another without realizing it.
I have experienced many freedoms throughout my life that others around me have not. For
instance, as a young, White female, I can walk up to almost any stranger of any age without
them being suspicious or afraid of me. A Black man isn t able to say that. This difference has
nothing to do with who I am as a person, but rather how society perceives I will behave based on
how I look. I have walked through department stores with a bag and my hands in my pockets, and I
have never been searched or suspected of stealing once. No one has ever crossed to the other side of
the street because I was in their path, or locked their doors as I walked past their car.

The Aging Process Essays
The Aging Process As we grow in to adulthood, many things start to change in our life. Aging is
an unavoidable process, beginning at conception and ending with death. The process does not
proceed at a uniform rate all over the body. As we age, the organ systems of individuals age at
different rates. Our body gradually slows down in early adult life. These changes are not apparent
until perhaps 50 years of age as they are not perceptible. The skeletal system gradually changes
over the years until it is porous and brittle, as the bones lose calcium and their density. This may be
more pronounced in women with menopause. These losses are multifactioral and involve age
related changes (reduce CA absorption, increased bone... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

reproductive system has a number of changes. The cessation of menopause is an obvious sign of
aging. A transition period, called the climacteric, lasts for many years before and after a woman s
last menstrual period. Hormone levels change, physical changes in the woman s entire
reproductive tract, and psychological changes. The intricate relationship changes occur between
the ovarian hormones and those produced by the pituitary gland (in the brain). The ovaries stop
releasing eggs (ova), and menstrual periods stop. When hormone levels fall, the vaginal walls
become less elastic, thinner, and less rigid. The external genital tissue decreases and thins (atrophy
of the labia). The pubic muscles lose tone, and the vagina, uterus, or urinary bladder can fall out of
position. A prolapsed of any of these structures increases the risk of problems such as urine leakage.
Decreasing amount of estrogen produced by the ovaries may cause hot flashes, mood disturbances,
headaches, and sleep disturbances are common symptoms that occur during menopause. Male

For myself and most people in Canadian society, education is a major part of our lives. Most
people will spend at least a quarter of their lives in the educational system. Using the school
system as an example, in my experience knowing people that have failed a subject, it was due to
the fact they didn t study or do the work which put them at a disadvantage compared to the other
students in the grade, but there could be social, economic, or historical reasons which lead to
you doing those things. If you come from a poor family, for example, you might need to spend
so much time working that you do not have time to study. A societal issue of this would involve
in the whole grade failing this course. If this happens, then the solution would not be an individual
one, rather the solution would be the school system taking a look into this and making any
required changes to the course. A reason for this many students failing could be that the students
were not given the resources necessary to succeed. Potentially the school did not have the funding
to teach a course properly. This societal issue could result in many students not move further in
their education which puts them at a disadvantage. This then can cause long lasting historical
problems as it becomes a vicious cycle. A person comes from a poor family and goes to a bad
school, they then do badly in school and either don t complete it or move on

sea, as beautiful as it is, can also be equally as powerful and mysterious. Though stories share
similarities they also have differences between their protagonist, conflict, and settings.
The two stories have many similarities though their locations differ. Both take place at night in
a marine area, with both of the protagonists on a pursuit. and Though they take place in different
decades the stories both occur at night. In The Sea Devil, the night is described as Black as a
witch s cat (Gordon, n.d., p. 2). However, unlike Edward s Rocks, The Sea Devil takes place in a
warm Florida bay in late September, whereas Edward s Rocks takes place in a quiet fishing
village of Musgrave Harbour, Newfoundland (Ritson, 1997, p. 300). Edward s Rocks describes
George as a hardy fisherman who hunts for seals for a living with his father and two brothers.
While George and his brothers and father are searching for seals the story says that the sea was
ominous, and... felt uneasy (Ritson, 1997, p. 305), while the protagonist in The Sea Devil night is
described as Dark and silent (Gordon, n.d., p.1).Even though both the stories take place in coastal
locations the two environments have their own unique features, such as the warm Florida bay in
The Sea Devil , where s Edward s Rocks was more of an aggressive northern marine environment.
The conflict in the two stories both can be considered as a person vs environment scenario. The
conflict in Edward s Rocks that George faced was a combination of the weather and navigational
issues. While George his father and brothers are out at sea they used a compass to help them
navigate to Pimming Islands, where they planned to hunt seals. Unfortunately a piece of metal
under the gangboards of their boat which interfered with the compass magnetic field, setting them

The Legal Drinking Age Of America
It was a typical Saturday night working as a waiter. The dinner rush had just ended and I was
catching up on some side work. As I am refilling the salad dressings, the hostess informs me that
she had just sat a table in my section. After arriving at the table and introducing myself, I
proceed to ask for their drink orders. The first words articulated out the woman s mouth are
spoken with a deep, thick, Irish accent. I could not help but acknowledge it and after chatting
for a few minutes, I come to learn that they had just arrived from the airport and are vacationing
in Florida for two weeks. After taking both parents drink orders, I ask their son what he would
like to drink. Like the true Irish man he is, he asks me for a Guinness. He looked a little young
to be drinking so I asked him for some id. He hands me the id and it reads that he is only nineteen
years old. I had to explain to them that the legal drinking agein the United States was twenty one
years old and I could see the look of confusion in their face. The father tried quarreling with me
that the law was stupid and since they are allowed to drink their country, they should be allowed
to drink here. Little did they know that this issue is very personal to me. One of my good friends
in high school was riding his bike one night and was hit and killed by an underage drunk driver.
The look of confusion was wiped from their face forthwith after telling them my story. The topic of
changing the minimum legal drinking

Cory Arnold Research Paper
Hi there! I m Cory Arnold, an English teacher in his fifth year in Japan with four years of
experience teaching at junior high and elementary schools in Japan. My first year was as an
exchange student at Kandai Gaidai in Osaka, where I studied language with Japanese students. That
caused my interest in studying Japanese languageto expand to linguisticsand foreign language in a
broader sense, leading me to become an English teacher. Primarily working at junior high school,
much of my work is focused on instructing proper English grammar, spelling and pronunciation.
Along with speech contest coaching, I make and grade worksheets, tests, and activities to practice
all four aspects of language (reading, writing, speaking, listening).

Cesar Chavez Courage Of Courage
When you think of courage, the first thing that comes to your mind is an athlete, an astronaut, or
even an owner of a company. But I ll bet money you don t think of a man by the name of Cesar
Chavez. Cesar Chavez is undeniably courageous because he showed integrity and did the right
thing, he also showed perseverance towards his goal, and he was excellent and had a lot of success.
One way Cesar Chavez showed courage by having a lot of integrity. When his father was hurt he
couldn t be on the fields, so Chavez quit school and started working for the family just so his
mother didn t have to suffer (United Farm Workers2016). For a kid our age to take the role of the

To prove this, Chavez actually went out, and asked people door to door what conditions were
they working in and what do they want (Tavaana.org 2016). This is ridiculous, who actually goes
door to door, and asks for everybody s working conditions and what they want? Although he didn
t do this by himself, this shows he really wants the workers to have a better life, and he works
hard so it can come true. He also show perseverance when he walks 400 miles from Delano to
Sacramento in 25 days (P.L Shelton 2004). This dude is crazy, he actually walked from Delano
to Sacramento for a cause. Many people would ve just quit, I would ve quit after ten miles. But
this shows real perseverance, he s willing to do anything for the workers, and even gained
10,000 supporters. As we already know, Chavez had a very limited education. But even after
dropping out of school, he still was learning more things every single day. He had many books
on philosophy and he would read these books every day (United Farm Workers 2016). This
shows true perseverance, he would still read even with his limited education, he was learning
more and more each day, that s true perseverance. Chavez was a hard worker and showed a lot of

ABSTRACT
In this experiment, the techniques column and thin layer chromatography was used to separate and
determine the purity of the colored components of siling labuyo and malunggay leaves. The results
obtained relied on differential solubilities and adsorptivities of the components to be separated with
respect to the mobile and stationary phases, wherein the stationary phase/s are silica gel and silica
gel G, while the mobile phase/s are the extracts on different solvent system.

EXPERIMENTAL
A. Sample Used
Sample Used: Siling Labuyo (Capsicum frutesceus)
B. Procedure 1. Column Chromatography The pigments of the red siling labuyo were extracted
using DCM hexane (1:1). Portions of the extracts were set a side for Thin Layer Chromatography.
In preparing the column chromatography set up, the column was plugged with cotton and
uniformly packed with silica gel up to the intended part of the dropping pipette. 0.5 mL of the
extract was then placed on top of the column using a pipette. The pigment mixture was eluted
using 10 mL of DCM hexane (1:1) and afterwards introduced in portions. The members were
instructed not to allow the column to run dry. The colorless eluates were discarded while the
colored eluates were collected in separate test tubes. The number of drops of the eluate collected in
each test tube was noted.
Figure 1. Column Chromatography Set up
2. Thin Layer Chromatography In the Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), the eluates were
applied on a 5 cm x 8 cm per coated TLC plate by spotting 10 times. The member performing the
application allowed each spot to dry before applying the next and made sure the spots are small as
possible. Meanwhile, another member prepared the developing chamber by placing an
approximate amount of the solvent system, DCM hexane (1:1). The inner wall of the chamber
with filter paper was lined, covered with a watch glass, and was then allowed to

Most Powerful Explosion Events In Space
One of the most powerful explosion events in space is known as a supernova. These occur at the
end of a star s lifetime when a star runs out of nuclear fuel and it is no longer supported by the
nuclear energy. When a star explodes star start the births of new stars and the formation of solar

field of control system and industrial appliances. With revenue over $7.3 Billion and income above
$400 Million (December 1996), the company was exposed to several types of risk as it operated in
a global territory.
Previously, the company had a much compartmentalised approach to risk management, with
individual departments managing individual risks pertaining to them. For instance, currency risks
were hedged using futures contracts and under the supervision of the Financial Risk Management
Unit while traditional (hazard) risks were insured by its treasury Insurance Risk Management Unit.
However, this individualistic approach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Where is everybody An exploration of the Fermi Paradox
Historical background
Over a 1950 summer lunch at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, the great physicist Enrico
Fermi asked his colleagues an unexpected question Don t you ever wonder where everybody is?
Laughter went around the table as everyone immediately knew that he was talking about
extraterrestrial intelligence [1]. If life arises fairly commonly, as Fermi believed, it follows that
there should be advanced civilizations with the desire to visit and colonize Earth close enough to
do so. However, there is no incontrovertible evidence of aliens on Earth, either now or in the past.
This is called the Fermi Paradox. The lack of observational evidence for extraterrestrial intelligence
is known as the Great Silence. [13] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It provides a framework, a blueprint for the quantities one must know in order to determine how
many communicative civilizations exist or have existed in a close enough range to receive
communications.
In 1964, Nikolai Kardashev devised a ranking system for the advancement of extraterrestrial
civilizations based upon the magnitude of their energy consumption. If the laws of physics do not
vary throughout the universe, any technologically advanced civilization must use energy. It follows
that more advanced civilizations would consume exponentially more energy. He ranked them into
three categories, Types I III. Type I civilizations consume much less than the energy output of their
own star. The human race is a young Type I civilization. Type II civilizations have harnessed most
or all the energy output of their own star, and begin to do the same to nearby stars. Type III
civilizations have harnessed the total energy output of their galaxy. [4] The types can be thought of
as planetary, stellar, and galactic civilizations.
In an online paper published in 1998, Robin Hanson proposed the idea of a Great Filter. The fact
of the Great Silence, despite the vast and ancient nature of the universe, may be explained by some
probability barrier existing on the

Improvements in Sports Medicine
A majority of all Americans have participated in at least one sport during their childhood and
adolescent years. Differences exist in both contact and noncontact sports, but the likelihood of
sports related injuries still occur due to physicality or the overuse or misuse of a particular body
part. (www.stanfordchildrens.org). With the common occurrence of injuriesin every sport, recent
times have brought breakthroughs that help athletes recover faster and more effectively. Since its
debut in ancient times, sports medicine has been a big part of all athletes lives with healing and
recovering. From injuries such as ACL damage, shin splints, strains and sprains, muscle cramps,
and concussions, sports related injury is inevitable for most athletes but with the help of medicines
and preventative measures injury can become more and more avoidable. Sports medicine traces
back to the time period of the ancient Greeks. The famous physician and Father of Medicine,
Hippocrates, wrote volumes around the third century BC that focused on his understanding of
fractures, acute diseases, and injuries to the joints. Wrestling was the most popular sport of this
time and the most common source for sports injuries. Depictions of sports injuries are hardly
found on relics because the Greeks were thought to have only showed men not as they are, but as
they should be (bjsportmed.com). Hippocrates is said to have been mentored by the athletic trainer
and doctor, Herodocus, who is

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Essay
The Transportation Security Administration, more commonly known as TSA, is a part of the
United States Department of homeland Security that supervises and manages the safety of
travelers in the United States. Unlike other government operated tasks forces such as the
military or FBI whose as been in existence since (), the TSA was only recently founded twelve
years ago in 2001 after the devastating terroristic attack that took place in New York city s twin
towers earlier that year. There are more than forty eight thousand people employed by the TSA in

Most employees were only required to show their I.Ds to surpass security in and around the
building. Sharp objects like razors, scissors or tools weren t seen as a threat. Even guns were
allowed if you had the proper licensing and protective case to place it in. A common scenario at
airports and train stations consisted of families and friends waving goodbye or welcoming tem
with open arms as a loved one came home or set off on a new chapter of their life. Times have
definitely changed, and for good reason. A majority of people are familiar with the world news
that occurred on September 11, 2001 when two airplanes flew into the Twin Towers of New York,
a massive terroristic attack that killed thousands of people in a matter of minutes. At the time of tis
tragedy, there were many reports saying passengers on the crashing planes were in a hostile
situation before the crash. Men from another country were aboard the plan with knives and took
control of the pilot, freighted the passengers and ultimately crashed the planes in an orchestrated
manner. These events caused a blood chilling wave across America and pushed the Bush
Administration to take action in avoidance of tis ever happening again, this brought on the
foundation of what we now know as the TSA in December of 2001, merely three months after the
incident. President W. Bush was in office at the time and honorably placed John William Macaw as

B Wells Red Record Summary
1. An example of whites lynching blacks in the South.
Ida. B wells can be considered to be among the greatest African American civil rights activists
because of her stand on the lynching of people of color in the South. She was also affected by
the primitive behavior of white men at the time as her newspaper s office was destroyed because
of the opinion it raised. One of the examples Wells gives of whites lynching blacks was of
Ebenezer Fowler who was the richest black man in his town. He was accused of having a romantic
relationship with a white woman because of the romantic letter he sent her. At the time, the white
men were allowed to seduce any woman but if a black man tried to have a romantic relationship
with a white woman it was declared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They saw their actions as a way to gain control over the black people and create a boundary between
them. They wanted to gain superiority. To justify their actions, they also accused black people of
killings, rape, and theft.
3. How white violence and intimidation prevented black people from exercising their civil rights.
White violence and intimidation created fear among the black people as they feared for their
lives. The hostile environment against the black people was a major factor in preventing them
from exercising their civil rights. They feared if they exercised their civil rights, they would be
accused of killings, rape or theft and be lynched. They opted to stay put rather than risk their lives.
Hi Acheton,
I like your analysis of the document. I totally agree it is through the actions of civil rights
activists like Ida B. Wells that the plight of African Americans in the United States changed for
the better. Black people in this country have gone through hard times and it is commendable how
they have managed to rise through the ranks and play a major role in the country s politics and
economy. It is also heartbreaking to know that white people tried to justify their actions which
were unacceptable in the first place. Generally, I believe that the country has made large steps to
reduce the racial gap and we can say we are moving in the right

The Similarities Between Primates And Chimpanzees
Primates can be defined as an order of mammals that includes apes, humans, monkeys, lemurs,
tarsiers and lorises. According to the evolutionary history, originally primates evolved from their
ancestors who lived on trees. Today there are approximately 235 species of primates, and they all
range in their habitats and sizes. Thus, the biggest primateis lowland gorilla, whose weight is
around 180 kilos, while the smallest one is mouse lemur living on Madagascar. Its weight is only
30 grams. There are different classifications of primates offered by scientists. However the most
common and widely accepted is the division of all primates into two groups: the prosimians and the
anthropoids. The prosimians that are also called as primitive primates... Show more content on

The first arboreal theory was considered to be the dominant until it was question and other two
theories appeared. According to the arboreal theory, primate evolved in order to meet the needs
of arboreal life, which means a development of necessary senses or adapting already existing
senses to new life style. For example, since primates lived in the three dimensional world, they
needed a good stereoscopic vision that would allow them easily move through the environment.
Therefore, the orbits of the first primates had been changed in order to achieve stereoscopic
vision. Since the vision has become a primary sense, the sense of smell has reduced and, as a result,
the snout was shortened. Its adaptation of the primates to the environment allowed them to survive.
The second theory known as the visual predation theory contradict the first theory and claims that
all the features of primates mentioned above, including grasping feet and hands, orbital
convergence and the reduced claws, were developed as a result of pressure to forage for insects
and fruits in the forest during the night time. For example, a good orbital vision allows primates to
gauge the prey s distance without additional moving of the head. The third theory is the most recent
among all three theories. According to this theory the primates have undergone the adaptive

Inequalities Of Health In Britain Today Essay
Inequalities Of Health In Britain Today
In Britain today, inequalities of health are common among many different groups of people. Recent
comparisons have shown that Britain is in the middle of comparable Western countries in relation
to inequalities of health.
Class has a huge influence on health. There is a large gap in how healthy those in lower class groups
are compared to those in higher class groups, and many people believe that this gap is widening.
For example, the poorest groups in Britain live, on average, 8 years less than those in rich groups,
and while only 10% of social class I are obese, 25 % of social class V are obese. This is the same
level as in the United States of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following a recent survey, it was discovered that all the poorest places in Britain are in Scotland,
which profoundly affects Scotland s health and knowledge of health. In Wester Hailes 9.8% of
babies born had a low birth weight compared to the Edinburgh average of 4.8%. In Greater Pilton
there are 27% more deaths than average, 31% more cancer deaths and 16% more heart disease, as
well as highly above average suicide rates. All these facts tell us that where you live seriously
affects your health and the type of health care you receive.
Non white groups make up only 5.5% of Britain s population, but people in ethnic minority groups
are much more likely to describe their health as poor of fair compared to those of the ethnic
majority. Four fifths of Pakistani and Bangladeshi people living in Britain exist in poverty, which is
defined as less than half of the average income. Their income is about half of that for whites in
the same social class. The women in this ethnic group are also less likely to have had a cervical
smear test in the past 5 years. Half of the women who did not attend these tests lacked basic
information on the test, did not receive an appointment or did not even know what the test was for.
South Asians in Britain are also unlikely to have had the cervical smear test as well as having

  • 3. White Elephants Are Like An Abortion White Elephants are like an Abortion As we know conceiving a child is a life changing experience; indeed, it can sometimes be a good or a bad experience. In the story Hills like White Elephants, Hemingway s unnamed American male dominates the weaker sexed Jig Rankin. Throughout the story the American man is trying to convince the pregnant Jig to abort their baby. They are discussing a life and death situation, literally for the unborn child, and figuratively for their relationship. There are many themes that help make the story very intriguing. A few of the themes in the short storyare courage, domination, addiction, and communication. The courage in the story comes from our character Jig. It seems that she is brave enough to go through with the pregnancy while the American man is too selfish and afraid, saying things like But I don t want anybody but you. I don t want anyone else. (478) He cannot face up to the change and challenge that life brings them. The man is very persistent in opposing of Jig s maternity, he even contradicts himself, calling the abortion first an awfully simple operation, and then not really an operation at all (476). Here and elsewhere, there are many modifiers like really and awfully that indicate that the man is not willing to take on this baby. We perceive other attributes directly from Jig though. As she demonstrates a hesitant demeanor to abort the baby, she also shows her knowledge of the man s self centered and insecure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As this industry grows however there are insecurities and they are tracking people s actions online and gaining an abundance of information on people. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was greatly adapted in the 1950 s and has moved onwards, becoming more common in the present. Subliminal advertising largely started in movie theaters, where in cinemas they would strew messages saying drink Coca Cola (Sheehan, K. B. 2013). The drink Coca Cola was a phrase that would appear on the screen during the start of the movies and during the intermission and it would subconsciously impulse the viewer to buy Coca Cola from the food court. Coming into the future this method is used in videogames where while playing you are met with company logos upon starting the game and thereafter shown products from other companies that are placed within the game. Some of the oldest advertisements that appear are from canned beverage companies and now newcomers such as car companies are coming into play, all the while polluting our screens with more subliminal advertising. The introduction of subliminal advertisements into video games has become the next step for many companies taking advantage of a person getting engulfed in the game screen in front of them. In relative concept, companies are taking advantage of the real estate that is your television or your computer and even your mobile phone to get you to buy their products. • 6. Application Materials For Recruitment Of Ethnic Minority... Dr. Martha Bernal focused not only on younger children, but students ages 18 and up who were looking at potential colleges. She conducted a study to show that the pictures and information provided in school packet materials mailed to prospective students had a large impact on the likelihood of them contacting the school for more information. The article titled Use of Application Materials for Recruitment of Ethnic MinorityStudents in Psychologyquestioned on page 818 whether these packets are equally effective in recruiting ethnic minority applicants (Bernal, Barron Leary, 1983) as they are in attracting white applicants. The hypothesis explored the idea that programs which stated a higher proportion of ethnic minority grad students would be judged as having a higher chance of recruiting ethnic minorities. Specifically, Dr. Martha Bernal explored how clinical psychology programs in the United Statesdisplayed diversity within the packets mailed out to prospective students. The set up involved mailing out a letter to 107 programs offered across the US which were accredited at the time, in which a fictitious student requested brochures and other materials about the clinical program offered, as well as materials on the number of minorities within the program itself. Interestingly, the fictitious girl named Ana Acres did not state her ethnicity or race, allowing the schools to send out information based on their own judgement and not the preconceived judgement of her ... • 7. Inclusion In Special Education Students across America with special needs have been integrated into classrooms with populations of general education students. This integration of students with special needs and students in general education is called inclusion. Inclusion is no longer an option for schools to choose or not choose. Federal law now requires the inclusion of all students with special needs if that placement is the least restrictive environment. Public Law 94 142, which states that education will be provided to all handicapped children, was enacted to prevent discrimination that was considered wide spread (Elliott et McKenney, 1998). An amendment to this act in 1990, titled Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), stated that the education of that person would include all academic areas, as well as the vocational and technical areas of education (Cronis Ellis, 2000). Many high school instructors believe that the process of including students with special needs into general education classes demonstrates reverse discrimination for general education students. Some feel that there is a failure to meet the needs of either regular or special education students (Winzer, 1998, p. 2). Because inclusion causes a change in how educators teach and students learn, it becomes important to analyze the effects of inclusion on the general education students to best serve both populations. Teachers struggle with the concept of inclusion for a variety of reasons. Some feel that the students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Prosocial Behavior And The Human Existence The human existence is one that for the most part stays unexplained. As soon as we find a way to explain why we do what we do, it takes a very small amount of time before someone has another explanation that is accepted. An example of this is prosocial behavior. Prosocial behavior is simply the act of doing something that benefits a person or people around you. This behavior can be interestingly mapped all throughout humanhistory with different motivations along the way. From a religious perspective, humans have a willingness and duty instilled in them by a creator to help out their fellow man. This is evident in the Bible with the story of The Good Samaritan where a man was beaten close to death and left in the street and the only person that stopped to help him was a man that despised the type of person he was. Why would he stop? From an evolutionary perspective, it would be logical to assume that the earliest humans benefitted from having each other around as a protection and survival source but also for a foundation for emotional support. We are obviously not wired to go through this world alone. Both of these positions prove the existence of a natural prosocial behavior, but they still leave open the idea of why and how it occurs when there is no apparent incentive for helping. The act of helping someone for no other reason than to help them is called altruism. For the sake of traveling through this concept with the largest picture in mind, we have to forget about ... • 9. Advantages Of NIMS The National Incident Management System (NIMS) brings many advantages to the all hazard incident to streamline practices before, during and after an event. Comprised of five main components that strengthen its overall effectiveness in an all hazards environment are preparedness, communications, resource management, command and management and the ongoing management and maintenance (Broder Tucker, 2012). Furthermore, NIMS provides a standardized method that can be applied to all hazards, regardless of their size and jurisdiction. First and foremost, NIMS provides a standardized approach that helps emergency responders work together to prevent and respond to events by utilizing the fore mentioned predetermined components. • 15. Essay on Serial Killers Serial Killers Serial killers kill because of three patterns we see develop throughout their lives. These patterns are the development of youthful characteristics and habits, abusing events in their lives, and the final push. To be qualified as a serial killer one must murder more than three victims, one at a time, in a relatively short time period. The most common serial killers are white, heterosexual, sexually frustrated, young adult males with low self esteem. Some on the other hand, such as self mutilation, cruelty to children, and convulsions, are not and are quite shocking to us. Lester Ballard displays many of these symptoms in the novel. For example as a child, Lester lost a softball and forced a younger boy to go get it by punching him in the face. The top three most reported behaviors are daydreaming, compulsive masturbation, and isolation. Daydreaming seems like a healthy, normal phase in every child s life, but this behavior actually makes sense for serial killers. The reason is that one of the most important components to the creation of a serial killer is fantasy. The killings are usually part of a complicated fantasy that builds to a climax at the moment of their deadly outburst (Serial Killer Info Polls). The creation of this fantasy starts as a child when the child is frequently left alone for long periods of time. This isolation bores the child and they resort to their minds for company. We can all remember the days of imagining our knight in shining armor coming to the rescue, or pretending to have immense strength, like the Incredible Hulk or Superman, to help them escape from any situation. In the cases of serial killers this fantasy/daydream world has been taken to an extreme. Masturbation begins during these fantasies and contributes much to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tort law is central to the Canadian legal system and it provides compensation for the grieving person who was damaged by the wrongdoing of another person. For example, if a physical education teacher allows students to play on a construction site for physical educationthe teacher is negligent. The teacher owes her students a duty to take care of them and by allowing them to play in a construction site she breaches that duty and may be found negligent and liable for damages. Further, the school board who employees the teacher may also be liable, vicarious liability which will be explained in question Part C #7). The precedent has been set for teachers by the Supreme Court of Canada in the case of Thornton et al v. Peel County Board of Education (1981) the court found that the teacher owes a higher standard of care than that of a prudent parent . Further, the Alberta Court of Queen s bench found that the teacher was negligent when the teacher did not meet the professional standard of care expected of a gymnastics teacher, which according to the court was the direct cause of the student s paralysis at the school gymnasium. In my short story, The Queen s Decision, Elizabeth s public and private selves are evident and occasionally contrast with each other, especially during the decision to execute Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots. Publicly, the Tudor queen had a strong aversion to beheading MaryStuart, but her personal insights depict hostility to the fellow queen. Elizabeth sitting on a throne made of silk from Asia, in reference to England s colonial power. The Armada portrait was a public display to spread a positive image of the queen as propaganda and to showcase the Tudor queen s strength. Similar to Elizabeth s Armada portrait in which she places her hand on the globe (particularly North America), Elizabeth is placed directly on colonized land (Asian silk), portraying England s power over other nations. In this instance, Elizabeth s publicly demonstrates her power and her physical embodiment of England in a subtle, meaningful way. Furthermore, Elizabeth is dressed in a gold and white gown with pearls lining the bodice, inspired by the Armada portrait again. Dubbed as the virgin queen, white and pearls are both indicative of virginity and chastity, with gold being symbolic of wealth. Also, pearls are linked with the moon, an entity that is difficult to reach and having immense influence over others, similar to Elizabeth herself. Having pearls line the bodice, where the heart and stomach designate the inward seat of passion, emotion, secret thoughts, affections, or feelings, (OED) illustrates Elizabeth s ability to restrain her biological urges. Elizabeth s natural body intersects with the body politic, in that her natural body is utilized to present a political ideal of her being in control. William Cecil mentions Mary s plots against Elizabeth, notably the three major plots she is suspected of committing during her imprisonment in England. The Ridofli Plot, The Throgmorton Plot and the Babington Plot are the three times Mary attempted to kill Elizabeth, with her involvement in the Babington Plot leading to her execution. The mobile ordering experience has been integrated into the already existing Starbucks mobile app, and My Starbucks RewardsВ® program. Continuing to utilize the expanding features of mobile possibilities, StarbucksВ® is growing with customer demand. Realizing the growing possibility of income from the use of the app, Starbucks has initiated a plan to expand the mobile app even more (Meola, 2016). In addition, sales through the mobile app has continued to grow, and, therefore, inspired the expansion of offerings through mobile communication. Studies have concluded that the use of the mobile app has become a core strategy for the business, and future growth for the Starbucks app will include recommendations to the customer for additional products. This writer considers the use of the mobile app to still be in the growing stages of the product life cycle. The maturity stage would indicate that the product has reached a peak (Solomon, Marshall, Stuart, 2012). However, not everyone has joined in the forces of utilizing the possibilities of the mobile app. Even though it would seem that most people have a cell phone, a select few only use the device for calling and texting. Therefore, the market is still growing and enticing new app ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Aging Process Essays The Aging Process As we grow in to adulthood, many things start to change in our life. Aging is an unavoidable process, beginning at conception and ending with death. The process does not proceed at a uniform rate all over the body. As we age, the organ systems of individuals age at different rates. Our body gradually slows down in early adult life. These changes are not apparent until perhaps 50 years of age as they are not perceptible. The skeletal system gradually changes over the years until it is porous and brittle, as the bones lose calcium and their density. This may be more pronounced in women with menopause. A transition period, called the climacteric, lasts for many years before and after a woman s last menstrual period. Hormone levels change, physical changes in the woman s entire reproductive tract, and psychological changes. The intricate relationship changes occur between the ovarian hormones and those produced by the pituitary gland (in the brain). The ovaries stop releasing eggs (ova), and menstrual periods stop. When hormone levels fall, the vaginal walls become less elastic, thinner, and less rigid. The external genital tissue decreases and thins (atrophy of the labia). The pubic muscles lose tone, and the vagina, uterus, or urinary bladder can fall out of position. A prolapsed of any of these structures increases the risk of problems such as urine leakage. For myself and most people in Canadian society, education is a major part of our lives. Most people will spend at least a quarter of their lives in the educational system. Using the school system as an example, in my experience knowing people that have failed a subject, it was due to the fact they didn t study or do the work which put them at a disadvantage compared to the other students in the grade, but there could be social, economic, or historical reasons which lead to you doing those things. If you come from a poor family, for example, you might need to spend so much time working that you do not have time to study. A societal issue of this would involve in the whole grade failing this course. If this happens, then the solution would not be an individual one, rather the solution would be the school system taking a look into this and making any required changes to the course. A reason for this many students failing could be that the students were not given the resources necessary to succeed. Potentially the school did not have the funding to teach a course properly. This societal issue could result in many students not move further in their education which puts them at a disadvantage. This then can cause long lasting historical problems as it becomes a vicious cycle. • 40. Comparing The Sea Devil, And The Sea Devil And Edward s Rocks Without the ocean, life as humankind knows it would be impossible. The ocean has provided the man a bountiful amount of resources. It is easy to think that the big blue is man s friend. Though with ninety five percent of the ocean unexplored, it is easy to think that it is more than sandy beaches and volleyball. Stories such as The SeaDevil and Edward s Rocks express the idea that the sea, as beautiful as it is, can also be equally as powerful and mysterious. Though stories share similarities they also have differences between their protagonist, conflict, and settings. The two stories have many similarities though their locations differ. Both take place at night in a marine area, with both of the protagonists on a pursuit. and Though they take place in different decades the stories both occur at night. In The Sea Devil, the night is described as Black as a witch s cat (Gordon, n.d., p. 2). However, unlike Edward s Rocks, The Sea Devil takes place in a warm Florida bay in late September, whereas Edward s Rocks takes place in a quiet fishing village of Musgrave Harbour, Newfoundland (Ritson, 1997, p. 300). Edward s Rocks describes George as a hardy fisherman who hunts for seals for a living with his father and two brothers. While George and his brothers and father are searching for seals the story says that the sea was ominous, and... felt uneasy (Ritson, 1997, p. 305), while the protagonist in The Sea Devil night is described as Dark and silent (Gordon, n.d., p.1).Even though both the stories take place in coastal locations the two environments have their own unique features, such as the warm Florida bay in The Sea Devil , where s Edward s Rocks was more of an aggressive northern marine environment. The conflict in the two stories both can be considered as a person vs environment scenario. The conflict in Edward s Rocks that George faced was a combination of the weather and navigational issues. While George his father and brothers are out at sea they used a compass to help them navigate to Pimming Islands, where they planned to hunt seals. As I am refilling the salad dressings, the hostess informs me that she had just sat a table in my section. After arriving at the table and introducing myself, I proceed to ask for their drink orders. The first words articulated out the woman s mouth are spoken with a deep, thick, Irish accent. I could not help but acknowledge it and after chatting for a few minutes, I come to learn that they had just arrived from the airport and are vacationing in Florida for two weeks. After taking both parents drink orders, I ask their son what he would like to drink. Like the true Irish man he is, he asks me for a Guinness. He looked a little young to be drinking so I asked him for some id. He hands me the id and it reads that he is only nineteen years old. I had to explain to them that the legal drinking agein the United States was twenty one years old and I could see the look of confusion in their face. The father tried quarreling with me that the law was stupid and since they are allowed to drink their country, they should be allowed to drink here. Little did they know that this issue is very personal to me. One of my good friends in high school was riding his bike one night and was hit and killed by an underage drunk driver. If life arises fairly commonly, as Fermi believed, it follows that there should be advanced civilizations with the desire to visit and colonize Earth close enough to do so. If the laws of physics do not vary throughout the universe, any technologically advanced civilization must use energy. It follows that more advanced civilizations would consume exponentially more energy. He ranked them into three categories, Types I III. Therefore, the orbits of the first primates had been changed in order to achieve stereoscopic vision. Since the vision has become a primary sense, the sense of smell has reduced and, as a result, the snout was shortened. Its adaptation of the primates to the environment allowed them to survive.
