Just wrote a post about "women and #esport" in front of the
presentation of the document written by @wigj at
#GlobalEsportsForum. Only 5% of women in the electronic
sports industry OR female players. It's too little!
The Women in Esports part of the Women in Games Job (WIGJ)
network were invited to present an executive summary of
research investigating gender diversity in esports, which
discovered an “awareness gap of esports” in women aged 18-24.

We work closely with the esports societies, and a set of industry and community
partners to ensure gender and diversity inclusion.
Partnerships with local science museums, girl school mentoring schemes, sport
centers, teachers, and employers ensure awareness of esports in the public domain.
Our main objectives are to diffuse the stereotype of male bedroom video gaming, and
promote esports as a creative, digital and fun activity.
Key aims are to inspire more female students to join esports and to recognise the
opportunity for future-fit careers around the esports industry.

“Esports in 20 years from now is likely to look very different. Already
there is much talk of the integration of virtual reality into esports
activities, and one can imagine virtual reality simulators occupy
gymnasia all over the world as a next generation of exercise machine.”

EQUALITY
IS NOT A
GAME
We are mindful of the need that esports activities do not replicate
nor exacerbate social inequalities in sports or video gaming.
@SALFORD our research framework is designed with these principles in mind.

Inequalities exist within esports, both at player level and in terms of
governance.
Understand routes into esports, to explain where there are points of
tension and barriers for inclusion.
Examine a wider range of stakeholders and industries around esports
and further integrate them within the industry.
Establish a key consensus document across the esports industry of
principal targets and timelines to ensure gender diversity is actioned.
Review the impact and path of progression for female gamers from an
early age to professional level.
Developing high value women’s esports activities as a ‘product’ in its
own right, and not a by-product or add-on to a male dominated
industry as recommended by #WIGJ

  • #2 Welcome to the Morson Group Maker Space partnership
  • #3 KEY AIMS - The Morson Maker Space overarching aim inspiring bright minds to pursue a career in Engineering and to MAKE an impact in their future. We want this talent to choose Salford University because we can offer the tools and skillsets before anyone else, and by giving them an tangible advantage and routes into Engineering with Morson Group careers support.   Salford University supports the Morson Group pledge to help change the perception of Women in Engineering every step of the way, and the Morson Maker Space will focus on inspiring girls into engineering (and across STEM) with our outreach programme. We do this by:
  • #4 1) Maker Culture is a safe space to explore ideas, learn skill, collaborate with others 2) Engagement with schools and teachers (inspire Engineering careers) 3) Education 4.0 is fostering real industry skills (learning all forms of digital fabrication that shapes Industry 4.0) to ensure students have access to Morson Group engineering professionals, placements and future jobs).
