1. DJ ERIC B AKA ERIC BELL
Eric Leondias Bell is the son of Janice Bieniville-Bell (former assistant for Jesse Jackson’s
Operation Bread Basket), and Ernest Bell (Chicago Police Detective-Violent Crimes and
Homicide unit). Ernest Bell was also a studio musician for various major record labels. Eric’s
grandfather Alcides Bell was former trumpet player with Louis Armstrong traveling band.
At age 4, Eric showed an interest in musical instruments which led him to pursue a career as a
professional drummer. He established a high level proficiency on percussion instruments and as
a Disc Jockey. At 12 years of age, Eric Bell began Djing with Foxx Players, a Chicago based DJ
Group. Eric played his first party with Milo Moore of Foxx Players, while simultaneously pursuing
a career as professional musician and recording artist. Eric was also a DJ with Wall to Wall
Sound; a Chicago based sound production company which had contracts with several high
schools to produce events.
By the time Eric entered high school, he was spinning records for Herb Kent-radio personality
on CHICAGO’S WVON AM 1690. Herb Kent produced music events not affiliated with the radio
station and DJ ERIC BELL was the opening act. Eric declared music as his major at Kenwood
Academy High School. While attending music classes, Eric learned to read and write drum
sheet music under band director Mr. Richards.
Participation in the Kenwood Academy Orchestra Marching Band and Concert Band enhanced
his experience with brass and string instruments along with performing as a Disc Jockey.
Throughout the 1980’s, Eric Bell was hired to DJ events at Chicago’s top performing high
schools. These schools included, “The Main Floor,” at Mendel High School, Kenwood High
School, St. Columbanus, Hales Franciscan, St. Ignatius, Kenwood Academy, St. Charles,
St.Albie, and Chicago State University College.
Eric Bell also was hired to DJ at Chicago famous dance clubs i.e. The Playground, and The
Dance Factory.
Eric Bell enrolled at Harold Washington College, and majored in music. At the college level Eric
took courses in music theory, music history, and other applied music classes .Eric Bell became
a drummer with several popular Chicago bands.
He joined the band Jesse’s Gang as a drummer, under the direction of band leader DJ/music
producer Jesse Saunders. The group released some of the first house music recordings. The
band’s U.S. tour generated record sales over 2000 units per week and abroad.
2. The success of Eric Bell’s membership in Jesse’s Gang led him to work with other house music
pioneer DJS and producers, i.e., “THE KING OF HOUSE MUSIC, FARLEY “JACKMASTER” FUNK.
Eric was also a drummer for Wayne Williams (AKA Dr. Derlick ) who signed R. Kelly to Jive
records. Eric Bell also worked with Vince Lawrence (music producer creator of Chicago Loop
for Sony Music)
In 1987 Eric Bell released his first solo project " Your Love " on Chicago ‘s first House Music
Record label, Trax Records while still performing with Jesse Saunders and Jesse’s Gang. “Your
Love” topped J.R. a local record store, music sales charts at #3. By the 90's Eric signed with
Savant Records Chicago/London division and recorded and produced several compilations
which were featured on the BBC.
By this time Eric was composing, and producing several artists and performing as a DJ at
various house music events. Eric stays busy in heavy rotation performing as a DJ at several
Chicago land area night life venues including the elite South Suburban community. Venues
include, Sportsman’s Lounge, Pro’s, and Revelations. Eric Bell has also performed for private
events i.e., “House The Vote Campaign 2014” with University Park, IL-Mayor, Vivian Covington,
Sharon Hansen-Libertarian candidate for Illinois U.S. Senate and, Congresswoman Robin
Kelly.DJ Eric Bell also has a residency for former Hollywood Entertainment Publicist Toni
Shelton annual birthday party and annual white party.
Eric Bell currently performs as a DJ every Thursday at The New Corner Bar and Grill in
Lynwood, IL and every Friday at Dusties Soul Food Restaurant in Matteson, IL (Voted Best Soul
Food Restaurant in the Country by Steve Harvey “Neighborhood Hoodie Awards”). His mixes can
be heard on University of Chicago radio station WHPK 88.5 www.whpk.org House Music Shows
