FuturePMO 2017 - Marisa Silva, Wellingtone - Maturing Your PMO Through its Te...Wellingtone
The teenage years can be a tough time, whether you are parenting a child or trying to mature a PMO. In both cases, we find insecure and anxious creatures navigating their way through life, trying to make sense of the world and to assert their independence.
Maturity is a journey and PMOs should not try to run before they know how to crawl. However, while there are some well-known organisational project management maturity models, such as CMMi® or P3M3®, there is no model specific to assist PMOs in progressing their maturity.
With a thought-provoking approach, this workshop will introduce
you to the brand new Wellingtone PMO Maturity Assessment
Model, demystify conventional assumptions relating to PMO
maturity, and provide you with tips and hints for
transitioning your PMO from the moody level 2 to the
uncharted land of level 3 and 4, where mature
PMOs live.
The role of the Programme PMO Lead is evolving. Historically, these individuals have often been seen as competent followers of process; perfectly suited to taking direction and operating within tightly defined. Whilst those parameters are essential to a well-managed Programme, they are not the most value-adding things for the Programme PMO Lead to focus on.
At Dyson we are pioneering a concept where the Programme PMO Lead takes more ownership for the operational control of a Programme – effectively becoming the Chief Operating Officer; with the delegated authority to not just report on problems, but fix them too.
During this presentation, Steve will take delegates through how this approach not only speeds up problem resolution but increases engagement with PMO Customers.

- The guide uses an informal writing style to be more readable and user-friendly compared to typical PMI standards.
- Agile practices are beginning to be used beyond software development, such as in education, to change mindsets and advance goals through a focus on prioritization, interaction, and incremental/iterative learning.
The State of Project Management Survey 2016Wellingtone
Wellingtone Project Management and the Association for Project Management (APM) Project Management Office (PMO) Specific Interest Group (SIG) have together published this, our first ‘The State of Project Management’ annual report. It provides a fantastic insight into the state of project management in the UK.
We invited colleagues from across our project management industry to participate, and they did, in their hundreds! 686 project management professionals representing 317 organisations invested their time and effort to help create this survey data. This is the largest ever non-salary focused project management survey in the UK.
Almost every organisation can benefit from improving their project management maturity. Many organisations do not benefit from best practice project management tool and techniques as championed by Wellingtone Project Management and the APM. We hope this report provides the catalyst for you to consider how you can increase your project successes and provides a wake-up call to tackle your biggest challenges.
The survey asks questions across a number of important topics including; project management maturity, tools & techniques, project success rates and PMO maturity.
This document outlines 9 deadly sins that Project Management Offices (PMOs) should avoid in order to be successful. The sins include: not connecting to company strategy, being overly focused on processes, lacking a core methodology/framework, taking on too many responsibilities, lacking transparency, gathering unnecessary information, being seen as just a cost center, lacking executive support, and poor communication infrastructure. The document provides examples and brief explanations for each sin. It emphasizes the importance of PMOs aligning with company goals and priorities, using processes to add value, having a clear methodology, and proper support and communication.
The xMO is an evolved project management office that focuses on delivering value rather than just project fundamentals like budget and schedule. An xMO distinguishes itself through a value-focused mindset that is people and culture centered, supportive, flexible and aligned to organizational strategy. As organizations shift to value-based delivery, the xMO plays an important role in fostering cultures of psychological safety, continuous learning, and goal alignment across projects, programs and strategic objectives. Establishing an effective xMO is a journey that involves assessing organizational needs and maturing the xMO approach over time.

In Odoo, making a field required can be done through both Python code and XML views. When you set the required attribute to True in Python code, it makes the field required across all views where it's used. This Interview with Frank Saladis, PMP, PMI Fellow, was recorded at the PMI Global Congress 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona.
In his congress paper, Frank describes Positive Leadership in Project Management as follows:
Despite the effort placed on planning, coordinating, and integrating the many components of a project, the project manager’s typical day is filled with challenge, Each day includes an unending stream of email, deadline issues, some frustrating events (and people), conflicting view points from stakeholders, and demands for changes at very inopportune times.
We can also find within a typical day in the life of a project, some successes and victories (and maybe an occasional thank-you or other form of recognition. At the end of the day it is sometimes difficult to remember what actually happened and what was accomplished.
