The first known envelope was nothing like the paper envelope we know of today. It can be dated back to around 3500 to 3200 B.C. in the ancient Middle East. Hollow, clay spheres were molded around financial tokens and used in private transactions. The two people who discovered these first envelopes were Jacques de Morgan in 1901, and Roland de Mecquenem in 1907.

5. Envelopes:
Business firms usually use envelopes of the
same quality as their paper; they are printed
with the name and logo in the top left—hand
corner of the reverse side. Envelopes are
manufactured in various shapes and size.
14. To ensure speed delivery:
• Type the name and address in the part of the
envelope starting from the middle. The
Blocked Style is recommended
• Type your correspondent’s full name and
address, post town followed by the post code
• Type the post town in Block capitals and the
country name in full.
15. • Fix the stamps on the right-hand corner.
• Mailing notations should be typed in Block
Capitals and underlined. e.g. PERSONAL,
CONFIDENTAL.
• If there is an attention line in the inside
address it should be typed in a similar way to
the inside address.
• Use one single space when typing the address
on the envelope.
