Language is a primary source of communication . It is
a method through which we share our ideas and
thoughts with others.
there are more than thousand language . some are
spoken among millions while some language are
spoken by few thousand.
• English is a west Germanic language that was first
spoken in early medieval England and is now global
bridge language.
• It is an official language of almost 60 sovereign states.
• Most commonly spoken in USA, United Kingdom,
Australia ,Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand.
• It is the third most common native language in the
world.
Introduction
History
• The earliest forms of English was brought to
Great Britain by Anglo-Saxon settlers in the 5th
century.
• Middle English began in the late 11th century
with the Norman conquest of England. During
this period the language was influenced by
French.
• Early Modern English began in the late 15th
century with the introduction of the printing
press to london. It was start of the great vowel
shift.
English as a universal language
• Through the worldwide influence of the British empire
from 17th to mid-20th century, modern English spread
around the world.
• Also due to all types of printed and electronic
media,and spurred by emergence of the United States
as a global superpower, English has become the leading
language of international discourse.
• English is a easy language to learn compared to other
language due to which it has become the most
preferred second language.
